Owner have some questionable ethics! – 9/26/2010

We pulled into the Sakura parking lot for lunch and they were closed. We parked WAY in the back of their lot and walked over to the neighboring Nissan dealer to look at cars until they opened. BEFORE they opened we walked back to our car to find they had put a BOOT ON OUR CAR for illegal parking. They weren't open. We intended to eat there when they opened 1/2 hour later. The private company they contract with had put a boot on our car and another car within 20 minutes of us parking our car. They wouldn't take the boot off until we paid FIFTY dollars. I think the people that own this place are evil. I WILL never eat at a place that employs bottom feeders to boot the cars of potential customers during a time the restaurant is CLOSED. Do you want to support a place that does this sort of thing...if you do you better make sure they are open and you RUN inside to eat...otherwise you risk a $50 boot on your car. Yes..they have a sign that says for Sakura customers only but they weren't open...and the signs are HIDDEN under the tree! The morals of the owners of this place are questionable at best.

Horrible, horrible, horrible – As much as I like their Big Sumo Roll, I refuse to go to Sakura for the following reasons:

-My fiancee and I went with a big group of friends one evening to experience the Tepanyaki. We were the first of four groups to be seated and we were the last ones served. That, and we created a line of empty used cups (instead of being refilled, they brought us new cups but failed to get the empty ones) from one end of the table to the other, AND it curved. I have pictures to prove it.

-I was especially hungry and craving sushi one day. I left during my lunch break in Lindon to go to south Orem to pick up my sushi. I ordered two big sumo rolls a good fifteen minutes before I left. If anyone is familiar with Utah county, you would know it takes about fifteen minutes to get from Lindon to South Orem during lunch. When I ordered it on the phone the man told me that it was going to take ten minutes. As soon as I arrived I saw that there was literally only one other car there an I only had ONE big sumo roll ready.

"I ordered two" I said.

"No, one." He responded.

I handed him a coupon that I cut out and repeated "I ordered two".

The coupon read "Buy one roll, get one free". I assumed that it was an equal or lesser value thing. After he was done scrutenizing the coupon he said "This for maki roll only. No big sumo." I rolled my eyes and said "fine, Ill pay for two. I just want two rolls." He seemed disappointed which was stupid because I was probably the only customer the entire day. He went to the back and started working on my sushi, or so I assumed. I sat down for about ten minutes in the lobby with my one sushi roll; I even got a call from my boss. Out of rage, I got up and was going to tell them to hurry with my sushi but when I looked behind the curtain, the two chefs and the rude host were doing nothing but watching football on the TV. Furious, I left with my sushi without paying. I thought it was an appropriate collateral for my inconvenience.

Entertaining experience – Sakura's is basically Utah County's answer to Benihana's. We went on a Saturday evening. It was busy , but our service was good. We ordered steak and shrimp for $19, which we shared, and approximately $6.00 for the snow crab roll. Our drinks were $2.00 apiece, and were promptly refilled. The Hibachi show was good, but our chef seemed a little bored. Another chef did the shrimp tossing routine with a younger table and they seemed to be having a good time. The food was good, not exceptional, and our total tab came to $36 with the tip. The server forgot our rice but apologized profusely and was otherwise pleasant and efficient. Once the thrill of the show has worn off, I am not sure if we will return frequently as we can get similar quality food without the show at Bangkok Grille, for a little less. We are, however, planning on returning with the kids at least once so they can see the Hibachi-batics.
