Staff is spot on! – I had stopped into this salon on the way home seeking a new stylist; one who wouldnt forget you were in the chair for over 20 minutes in the midst of applying color.
I explained my previous experience over the course of a year with another stylist who on 2 occasions fryed my hair by taking personal phone calls in the middle of applying color and then letting that color continue to process the normal processing time... (2x each for over 20 min each... I know WHY did I go back???). All ths while she had a paying client in the chair...
Anna H assured me that is not how they do business so I thought what the heck give them a try.
Was I every lucky! Anna H took the time to discuss the look I wanted considering my hair type and then took the whole time to work on me! Did not try to squeeze in other clients, take phone calls or disappear... she was SPOT on the whole time!
this is by far the BESTt cut & color I've had in over a year and my hair feels soft and NOT fryed woo hoo!!!
Anna H thank you, thank you, and thank you! I will be back!
Loyal customer – I have been going to Ann (the owner) for about 3 years and could not be happier! I have naturally curly hair, which is not easy to work with, but Ann has always worked with me, listening to what I want, always explaining her plan of attack, teaching me a thing or two about hair along the way. She cuts and colors, being very thoughtful to my needs, and I ALWAYS get compliments on my hair. Not to mention, the conversation is always great. I often leave wishing there was more to do! She has also cut my daughter's hair since she was 5: her hair is super thick and wavy, and changes a little with each passing year. Ann takes great pains to get the cut just right for her hair type, age and needs (soccer hair!).
We both love our girls' day at the salon: all the women are very friendly and professional, there is tea and the new Starbucks instant coffee (love it!) and even a big box of toys for your little one to entertain him/herself. Ann also carries items made by local artisans: purses, jewelry, clocks, etc. There's always something interesting to check out, or listen to, as the ipod is chock full of great tunes. This is a great little neighborhood salon! It's a gem; check them out!
AWESOME people, AWESOME hair – I'm not sure what the previous poster was high on when he went to Odango; I've had the pleasure of meeting every stylist there during the time I've been a client, and they're all unfailingly warm and friendly. It's a small, locally-owned studio and there's not always a dedicated receptionist, so maybe he expected someone to rush up to him and greet him like they do at big chains (he did mention Great Clips... hmm) and instead he had to talk to a stylist while she had her hands in someone else's hair. Who knows. I don't know what you could even do to invite a cold shoulder from such genuinely sweet, fun people, but I have a feeling it was all in the guy's head.
Allow me to borrow heavily from my review on Yelp a year ago and say that Odango is fabulous! I have wild, curly hair and I've worn it long for years. Nervous about making a change, I first made an appointment with Ann, Odango's owner to figure out how to change my hair. She took the time to help me figure out what to do, and then put so much care and genuine excitement into it that I felt like it mattered as much to her as to me whether my hair turned out just-right or not. She was thoughtful and careful treading into the unknown - considering how my curly hair would behave once cut, and how short to cut it, etc. - and started small, cutting and diffusing my hair and then shortening it up some more after she could see how it would fall. Her technique was wonderful, and my hair looked and felt great! I was totally thrilled. I *definitely* felt I had her total attention and she really cared about the outcome.
Customer service is top-notch; Ann also made me promise that if I got home and washed my hair and it didn't look just right the next day, I had to come back so she could make it perfect. Hello, extra mile!
That was over a year ago; I've never gone to anyone else since; I'm a loyal and happy Odango client. And I get stopped all the time by people complimenting my hair and asking where I have it cut.
Also, the rates at Odango are really good, especially considering the quality of attention and service. The salon is clean, nicely lit, and cute. And it's a local business. What's not to love?
Another thing: talking to your stylist throughout your appointment can easily become a tedious chore, even for social types like myself. But Ann is lovely, and talking to her was a total delight.
I highly recommend this salon to anyone, especially if you're looking to make a style decision!
RUDEST PEOPLE I EVER MET – Walked in to talk to the ladies about getting my hair done and they were just plain rude, it was like I was interupting their day or something. Like they were in some other line of business, not in the business of serving customers. I would go to Great Clips or anywhere else before I ever walk into that Salon again. I am going to tell everyone I know to never walk into that Salon, You could not pay me to get my hair done there.
Go anywhere else, I have already started spreading the word on Woodstock for everyone to go elsewhere to get their hair done and I live in the neighborhood. This is the first bad review I have ever written, so you know I mean it. Very disappointed...........
Never disapointed – Have been seeing Ann and have never been disappointed. She just knows how to cut my hair. Anna did my wedding hair and really took her time to make that special day perfect!
Amazing salon!!! – I went to Odango looking for a change. I got a new sassy cut and a new color to brighten up my dull hair. Shannon was awesome!!! She listened to me and considered my busy life in choosing a good color for me and a cut that I can just was and go!!! I would highly recommend checking out this salon!!! :)
best haircut ever! – I felt totally comfortable as soon as I walked in the door. Ann took the time to get to know me and the style that I was aiming for. She cut my hair so well that I had the great "1st day hair cut" but even after a week, it still looks just as good! I only spend about 5 minutes to dry it in the morning...if that! I got it cut to add layers and even it out. This is the first time I have had bangs in years, and they look great! I left the salon feeling like a rockstar!
bad at cutting bangs – nice people, but the woman who cut my hair was clueless. I asked her to blend my bangs into the rest of my hair and she cut them straight across. So now I have a huge chunk of bangs, and then the rest of my hair. And she didn't even cut all my hair. She completely forgot to trim the front layers. So my front layers look bad, and my bangs are just sitting there, short and choppy. I was not happy with the stylist, and i won't be going back. I normally go to more expensive places, and now I know why, they actually know what they are doing and can make getting your hair cut a good experience. Even though the woman was nice, this seemed like I was her first customer, and she cut like an amatuer. I even gave her a picture, and my bangs looked nothing like the picture.
The Best Salon EVER! – I've been a client for a couple of years and the best thing is that I only have to go in about every 6 months. Ann does the color so well that, even as it grows out, it blends in and it's hard to tell the difference. The cuts are always done so that the grow out is great and with my super thick straight hair she has always done a great job. Ann always asks what my "goals" are for my hair (last time I wanted professional but easy to care for and long enough to still throw back so I can take care of my 2 yr. old), and I had even thought about bangs but she and spent a good 20-30 min. just deciding what cut and color. Then...it turned out fabulous! And now, 3 months later, I still love it. We always have great conversation and it's a comfortable atmosphere - no noses up in the air here. You are the best, Ann!
Best place I have EVER gone for my hair!!!! – I have been living in Portland for 16 years and tried a bunch of places for my hair - from fancy salons to chain hair places. I am the kind of person who will wait until the last minute, hate my hair and dye it some completely awful color and then be miserable, usually because I can't be bothered to go back to any of the hair places I'd been to. This is not the case any more. As long as Odango is in business no one else will ever touch my hair including ME. I have thrown out all my home supplies and I will even wait (unheard of for someone as impulsive as me) if I can't get in right away because every time I go I get the best cut and the best color - ever. The color lasts and stays beautiful and the owner does such a good job that even when it starts to grow out I am still getting compliments on my hair for weeks after. She takes her time and does such a wonderful job picking colors. I love the atmosphere - not intimidating like some salons and I don't feel like just a number like I do at the chain hair places. I have been going there over a year now and as long as Odango is in business that is where I will be going for my hair cuts and color. I love them!
