Most unprofessional service ever! – My experience with Stuart Hirsch was a huge disappointment.
I had booked an appointment for a single process with Stuart, the owner. When I got there, Stuart handed me over to another girl and told me that she would color my hair. I said ok, but I asked if the price would then be the same as with him (since I had booked an appointment with him). He said that the price would be the same (although appointments with Stuart are much more expensive than with the other girls working in his salon!).
In the end, he agreed to color my hair himself. He did half of it, and then handed me over to another girl, who finished his job. I wasn't at all impressed by the result - it was a duller red than what I had asked for, and more boring than the color I already had.
But the worst part came afterwards. I said that I didn't need a blow-out, but the girl who did the rest of the coloring kindly offered to give me one free of charge. While she was doing it, Stuart came by to point out that this was an extra 50 dollars. When I told him that the girl (I don't want to name her here) said it would be free of charge, he replied that "she doesn't know what she is talking about." When I very kindly explained that if I had known this from the beginning, I would have been able to choose not to do the blow-out, he got angry and told the girl to stop immediately, and he sent me out in the cold with my hair half-wet and half-done, after he humiliated and shouted at the poor girl for daring to offer me a blow-out in "his salon"!
The girl was nice to me and did a good job, but Stuart, this supposed world renowned colorist, didn't do a good job at all, and, most of all, he treated me and his employee like trash. If he doesn't have clear agreements with his employees, the client shouldn't be paying the consequences. I've been to many hair salons, but this was by far the most unprofessional, rude, and ridiculously unacceptable service i've ever had. STAY AWAY FROM THAT GUY!
hair color disaster... thanks to Stuart Hirsch himself – I did NOT get what I wanted the first time, and when I went back for corrective color, Mr. Hirsch seemed annoyed that I was back, and left my hair an ugly, brassy orange, with sloppy highlights.
It was honestly so bad I was incredibly embarassed about it and had to wear a hat until I could get it fixed. And yet he refused to correct it without charging me again. I had to go somewhere else and spend another 4 hours correcting the damage. When i called the salon to ask if I could get my money back for the color, Mr. Hirsch said "Are you kidding?!" and hung up on me. Twice.
I paid him a lot of money and not only was the result not what I wanted, it was TERRIBLE. Does he not have a reputation to uphold, whether it?s concerning his attitude or, arguably more important, his WORK? He knows he completely screwed up my hair color. Everyone who saw it afterward agreed. He and his salon should be bending over backwards to try to fix something that looks like an amateur did it, especially for the money they're asking. It took 4 hours at another salon, and plenty more money, to fix.
All that said, I got my hair cut there too, by Hilly, who did a wonderful job and was very kind. I guess that?s one positive?..
a great hair day! – went in without an appointment. taken by hilly and it was just terrific. my hair was midlength and i said, just do whatever the heck you want but make me look good and make it easy for me to blowdry. he studied my face and its angles, asked me a few key questions, and started to chop and snip. i mean what a difference. i hate sitting in a salon in general, but he made it easy. no stressing. didn't babble away or get all theatrical.
i shall return! great job!
great cut and friendly staff – Glenn cut my hair...great haircut that lasted many months looking just as great as when I left! He was very friendly and made me feel like I was his only concern for that hour. I tried another salon a few weeks ago only because he was out of the town the weekend i HAD to have my cut but it did not compare to the down to earth friendliness and professionalism I had w/Glenn. I learned there are probably alot of great stylists in Soho but Glenn & staff definately won me over with their friendliness and down to earth warmth...not to mention the amazing cut I received..tons of compliments from so many people!!
I had been searching for a new hair salon because my previous stylist moved out of town and I wasn't particularly interested in any of the curent stylists at my old place. A friend had recently gotten her new look at Stuart Hirsch and I was really impressed with the outcome. I am SO HAPPY I followed her suggestion to go there, because I LOVE how I look! I've already gotten so many compliments on my new do. Staurt did a fantastic job with the color. And Hilly did an AWESOME job with the cut. I've always been the type to stick to the same old, same old but Hilly gave me a hair cut that has totally re-invigorated my entire appearance. He is a master with his shears. He showed me exactly how to style it and the cut is so easy to maintain. The entire salon was very friendly and laid-back - none of the snotty attitude you might get with some of the other places. The vibe was great. I will definitely be back!
Mediocre experience.... nothing here really made me want to come back! – I found this salon on Lifebooker. S.H. was offering 1/2-off on cuts & color. It seemed like a good deal, & being close to where I live, I decided to take a chance & give them a try. Stuart was polite & apologetic, but he kept me waiting for +/- 40-min, the whole time talking loudly to the other client, & using profanities (not a deal breaker, but I did find it a little off-putting). It was finally my turn, I was hoping to have a quick consultation, but instead he just kept asking what I wanted done. I finally realized I was not going to get his professional opinion, & just emphasized that the highlights had to cover as much gray as possible. I found it strange that half way through he asked me if I wanted the gray covered. You'd think that'd be self-evident, even if I hadn't stressed it! I was pretty happy with the color, but under no circumstances do I feel that it was worth the $300 full price (I paid $150) for a 1/4 head. Also, perhaps because he was running behind, & I wasn't paying full price, I felt like the whole thing was completely rushed (which is not a good feeling!)
My cut was w/Hilly, who was incredibly friendly & personable. However, I've had much better cuts in the past, & wasn't particularly impressed w/ his cutting style. As for the b*low-out, well, in my opinion, it was a complete disaster (considering his haircut normally costs $125). He too was now running late because of the Stuart hold-up, and was obviously rushing through my b*low-out (or I hope he was, because if this was his best work, then it is just sad!). I'm used to my hair being pin straight after a good b*low-out, but it was still frizzy and poofy, plus he didn't even bother showing me the back of the cut with a hand held mirror, which is customary pretty much anywhere you go! I can't say that the cut & color are horrific. But I just found the OVERALL experience mediocre. I will not come back here & pay their full salon price. They did not manage to convert me to a repeat client.
Fabulous hair! – My best friend said she was going to get "done by Hilly" and since I was ignorant as to who Hilly was, I was kinda nervous. She'd only heard about how good he was but had never actually gone to the place or had a consultation. But as her friend I was in full support of her getting a hair transformation because, truthfully, she needed it, poor thing. Anyway, after her appointment we met for drinks and OMG! She looked fabulous! And because her hair looked good, she felt good and even her sundress seemed to pop with the haircut! Good Bless Hilly!
Snooty Stuart Hirsch's empty salon – I made an appointment with a hairstylist who works at Stuart Hirsch. The hairstylist, Hilly Ulysses had cut my hair when he worked at Cutler and he did an amazing job, plus he's very attentive.
Unfortunately, Hilly is probably the only saving grace of the DUMP which is the Stuart Hirsch salon. When I arrived I was told to hang my jacket (I was wearing a suit and not exactly looking like a pan-handler looking for spare coins) in the back of the salon and as I walked across the salon, Stuart Hirsch looked up from the customer he was working on and practically accosted me saying "are you looking for someone?". He was downright hostile....there's no other way to describe his demeanor and tone. I was tempted to say something equally snooty and walk out, but didn't want to cause a scene for Hilly's sake.
Anyhow, Stuart made no attempt to make amends for his hostility even when it was clear that I was a legitimate paying customer.
To Stuart - good luck keeping your business afloat with your horrible attitude and the tanking economy.
To Hilly - you deserve a much better place to showcase your talent. You need to look for an employer who doesn't snarl at paying customers.
Hilly is a hair genius! – Hilly and ONLY HILLY cuts my hair from now on. This guy is amazing! Stuart did my color and every time it's gorgeous and very natural looking. Seriously, if you want a hair cut that is easily styled at home, looks great, compliments your face and features, go here. These folks know what they are doing. Imagine that!
Excellent Hair Cut – Whitney gave me the best haircut of my life. She spent over an hour and a half carefully tailoring the style to my face shape and needs and listened to all my requests and concerns. Excellent service and excellent salon. Will definitely be going back soon!
