Service Please – The food is great but I wil not be surprised if they lose all their customers to poor service.

Went there on a Saturday evening right when hey had opened. There were a few people in line and it took one of the employees forever to take orders while the others stood around doing nothing!!!

After about 20 minutes or so one of the other employees came out and told the customers they were out of Batter......Really!!!! they were closed from about 2:00pm-5:30pm and they didn't know they were out of batter??? I love their sausages but good gosh I may have to go the Hibernian to get some from them.

PLEASE hire capable employees who can cater to the public and have good customer service. They are losing some serious $$$

Who closes for spring break anyway????WOW!!!

What fish and chips? – Went Wednesday lunchtime (April 9): it was "Closed for Spring Break."

With service like that - good luck.

When bad things happen to good fish and chip places – I went this past Saturday and was hugely disappointed. It was probably the most bizarre situation I've ever encountered in a restaurant. And as a preface, my husband and I once loved this place - it had the only truly authentic English fish/chips in area.

First problem we encountered was they weren't open. Hours on their website said they opened at 5, and they didn't open until 5:30. We heard many tales of erratic operating hours while we were trapped there for over an hour waiting for our food. Second warning was they were inexplicably slow in taking orders. The staff were standing around doing nothing or washing up. They were out of all soda except pepsi and had not prepared any food in advance. All the napkin dispensers were empty, as were many of the malt vinegar bottles on the tables. And this was right at their opening on a Saturday night. We were among the first for their dinner service. By the time we sat down after ordering, they turned away the rest of the customers. We had no idea why. I had to stop a worker and ask what was going on. She said they ran out of batter and were closing for Spring Break! I don't know much about making batter, but there's a supermarket in the same shopping center they're in - go buy some more flour, eggs, beer, whatever! It was only a half hour after they opened!

Now they were down to serving the 10 or so different parties that were trapped in the restaurant - it still took them 45 minutes to bring us our fried food. Not a single worker there was apologetic or could care less about how slow they were or that they were turning away customers. It was horrendous. We stayed only because they already had our money.

It's really too bad, because their food was once excellent. They must be closing for good (or they should be judging from the terrible service).

Great Food, service needs attention... – I was very excited to see a new place to get some authenic fish & chips, so I tracked down this small place for lunch.

The fish (I had the cod, due an 8 1/2x11 sheet of paper taped to the wall stating "Out of Haddock") was outstanding. The decor was great with several British trinkets and photos scattered about.

I visited during a lunch service (only about a dozen or so other people in the store), and was dissappointed that it took 30 minutes to get the order to the table, and the chips were cold. I watched as other guests went back to the counter and asked where their food was also.

I really hope things come together for the place, because the area really need a place like this.

Cannot recommend this place – A group of us went there based on Greg Cox's review in the N&O. There were 8 of us, and we went on Wednesday night just before 7:00 PM. Not everyone in the group had gotten there when the first 5 of us placed our orders. To be fair, the staff was trying to ensure that our meals all came out at the same time, but we still waited a good 30 minutes for our food. What we got was bland-tasting greasy food with too much batter. I don't think the oil was hot enough to cook in. The fench fries were soggy and cold, as was my friend's veggie burger. The mushy peas had no flavor except for he lard that was used in them. All in all, this was probably the worst meals I've had in a long time.

Best fish and chips! – I?ve been here several times and the food and service is outstanding. I?ve never had to wait a long time for my food and it has always been great. So if you want great authentic fish and chips this is the place to go. Oh and on a side note to the reviewer who wrote it smelled like fish, it is a FISH and place.

Horrible experience – We arrived 10 mins before the restaurant opened on a Saturday night. There were already about 15 people in line. (I took this as a good sign at the time, but now I just wonder what is wrong with all of these people -- maybe they were all first timers, like me). We waited in line ~30 mins to place our order (this does not count the 10 mins outside before they opened). Unfortunately, I ordered only a single beer. I did not realize at the time that we would be waiting an additional 50 minutes for our food. Needless to say, my wife and I finished our beers well before our food came, but I really did not feel like getting back in line for 30 mins for another. I would say the food was okay, nothing great. Quality fish, good batter, but too greasy for my taste. The chips were average, nothing special at all. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE WAIT. Plus, there is no service to speak of. You wait in line to order your food, you go pick it up at the counter when it is ready, you clear your own table so that somebody who has been standing hovering near your table for 45 mins can finally sit down. And they have the audacity to encourage you to tip. For what? We paid $30 for 2 beers, fish and chips that took 50 mins to serve after we waited in line for 30 mins. They should've given us free beers for their poor service. Maybe then I would consider going back.

Not worth the wait.... – Wait of one hour, restaurant is way too small and stinks of fish and fried everything.

Food is very greasy and heavy.. and to top it all off you get to eat out of plastic containers with plastic forks and knives.....What a deal.

Oh.. and you are charged over $10 bucks for this without a drink...

Not a good value at all. Do not waste your money and time. Go elsewhere.

dropt me an e-mail if you want more details....orange@nc.rr.dotcom

BTW- I used to live in London so I know what good fish and chips are like...

Great fish and chips – This small restaurant in a strip mall was bustling with customers on the Saturday afternoon I visited. I knew it had to be pretty good since the line was at the door, and the few tables they have were all taken. You place your order at the counter after reading the menu on the huge chalkboard, you have a direct view of the fryers and can see the fish coming out. They also serve beer here which goes well with the fare. I got the cod half portion which was plenty of food. They put salt and vinegar on everything, but the vinegar flavor is not strong at all and I found myself adding more at the table. It took a surprisingly long amount of time for our order to finally be ready, I'd say we waited about 30 minutes. Everything was piping hot when it arrived. For fish and chips I'd say this is the best I've eaten. However, be warned if you are not used to eating a lot of fried food, this is very oily. Eating all this eventually caught up to me and my digestion suffered for the rest of the day. While I like the concept of this restaurant and the quality of the food is good, I won't be eating this more than once per year.
