Great service, good location, wonderful food – I visited this restaurant on a whim with a friend of mine - she had been there before and enjoyed their breakfasts but had never experienced their dinner menu. We were delighted. The atmosphere inside is a little stark but charming, and we sat outside on the patio and thought it was delightful. Our server was knowledgeable about the wines and the menu, and we had no trouble picking out some delicious choices from their simple but creative menu.
I enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli with Beringer chardonnay (normally not a choice of mine but the server recommended it and it was wonderful). I loved it - a generous portion of everything, including lots of delicious gorgonzola, and our server even brought us a sample of the day's soup to try with our meal. My friend had the Cobb salad and raved about it - lots of goodies on it, which sometimes Cobb salads can be light on.
Prices were very reasonable (both of our dishes were $11-$12). Our dessert was the vanilla bean cheesecake (made in house) with berry compote. Delicious - definitely not to be missed if you go there. This was a wonderful, charming restaurant with personable staff - it was a pleasant, simple and wonderful meal all around.
Terrible Food! – We went here for dinner last night and it was horrible. Well, the server was very nice and attentive, but the food and wine was terrible. I had the clam linguine and my husband had the macaroni and cheese. My clams tasted like they had been steamed in water and very little seasoning, and then thrown on the linguine with the water. His macaroni and cheese tasted horrible and upset his stomach all night and this morning. We also got the antipasto platter for an appetizer and even that was not good. It was the biggest waste of $60 I have ever experienced. We used to enjoy going there for breakfast, but lately the breakfast has not been very good either. Hard potatoes, poached eggs with hard egg yokes and sub par bacon.
Knowledgeable staff, Great food, a Gem in Murrayhill – Murrayhill Cafe started off as a breakfast & lunch joint, but they have recently started serving dinner. I've ordered the french toast, butternut squash raviolli, and grilled chicken sandwhich on cibatta with pears and goat cheese. My husband has had the french toast, hamburger and club sandwhich. The flavor combinations tend to be a bit on the unusual side, but work together very well. The staff is very knowlegable about the food and the wine list. They all seem to have tasted the food and seem like they appreciate food. The prices are very reasonable (roughly $8 - $18 for an entree) for the quality of food that you get.
