Good Hair cut and color/bad customer service. I decided I would splurge and instead of coloring myself and going to a friend for a cut I would go to a "real salon" GiGi always looks appealing as I walk out of Nordys and I have had good experiences at previous Aveda salons. my cut and color ended up GREAT. However half the experience id talking to the stylist, and I was there for 2 1/2 hours! Danny my stylist asked me a total of maybe 3 questions. I tried several times to ask open ended questions and induce conversation to no availe. Danny should have been the one trying to ask me questions, though she did ask what color and style I Was thinking. several ladies around me were chatting away with their stylists and offered wine or water. I was stuck staring at the mirror, I didnt bring a book, since Iusually talk with the stylist and the magazines were old and not to my taste. I wont be going back, I spent a pretty penny but I need to feel like my stylist cares a little.
Been going to GiGi's for years seeing Taven & always have great results...& my hair is very difficult & curly...he is awesome with cut & color for years.
I went into the salon to make an appointment for my daughter who was coming home from college for the weekend. She had long hair that had too many layers and simply needed a few inches taken off the bottom to even out the layers. I stood at the desk while the receptionist added comments to the computer for the stylist. Three days later, my daughter went in for the cut, and she left with even more layers - her hair looked absolutely shredded at the bottom. Furthermore, the stylist told her she wanted to condition it, but neglected to say that it would cost more money. My daughter paid $90 for a horrible hair cut and conditioning treatment. She called me from school a few days later to tell me that she had to go to a Super Cuts to get it fixed! I called the salon and spoke to the receptionist because I wanted the management to know, and I wanted some price adjustment. I was told that they had a 5 day policy for fixing bad cuts. I asked to speak to a manager, but was put on hold and then told that a manager would contact me. I left two phone numbers, but never heard back. After checking the receipt, there is no mention of the 5 day policy, besides, who goes back to the same place one received the bad cut in the first place? Bad cut, bad customer service - we will not return.
GiGis is amazing – I've been a client at GiGi's for four years and they ALWAYS do a wonderful job with my hair. I've changed my hairstyle just about every year and I'm never worried that it won't look great - I have that much trust in these stylists. Especially Taven! If it's not exactly what I was expecting, he'll work with me until I'm happy. He's been consistently professional and friendly for four years. He's a pro.
I've been reading these reviews and I want to respond to StephBarkers because it's a gross misrepresentation of what actually happened. I was in the salon when she came in to complain. I was having my color rinsed in the back and could hear her yelling above the water running and blow dryers. She was so disruptive that everyone in the salon stopped in horror to see and listen to what was happening out front. There are probably at least 30 witnesses and I hope more than just me will write in. She was throwing a hysterical fit! She had one baby strapped to her while she was screaming, so of course the baby was screaming too. She was inches from Taven's face throwing a tantrum. It was the most insane thing I have ever seen a grown woman do in public. She should be ashamed. GiGi's had to call mall security to get rid of her and her family.
This seemed to me like a case of "Veruca Salt: If I don't get what I want I'll scream". Well, let her scream and let her find another salon.
This salon has given me my "best haircut" time after time for four years. They can make you a believer, too.
Love my hair! – I just read the prior review about the lady who had to led off by security; she must have been a real piece of work because Taven, the manager at Gigi is the most together, calm, fair person I've ever seen.
I've been a customer for 4 years and have heard him deal with a LOT of difficult customers. Most of them just want a free haircut or color, so they yell really loud to be the squeaky wheel and get free services. Not fair of those of us who pay! Oh well, Taven, keep the faith. WE know you rock!
Gigi salon saved the day – I was trying to save money. Bad idea. Weddings are expensive, so I colored my own hair thinking, "Hey, how hard can it be?" Yikes. It turned out terrible - and I cried and cried until one of my friends suggested Gigi salon. I called up, explained what had happened, and Taven Canfield, the manager said to come right in. He moved some appointments around and redid my hair and it looked fabulous. And the best part? He made me laugh while he was fixing it. I had beautiful, rich, chocolate brown hair for the biggest day of my life. Thank you Taven. Thank you everyone at Gigi salon for riding to my rescue and being so nice about it all. And thanks for the discount, too. I know you didn't need to do that, but it was appreciated.
Don't believe it - this salon is rock solid every time – I read this negative review with disbelief. Gigi Salon is predictably wonderful every single time I've been there and that's from someone who has been going for five years. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. The service is warm and generous and the quality of the services can't be beat. Day in and day out - it's just a great place for hair. I happened to be there the day this last reviewer had her meltdown. It was truly shocking. The language, the volume, and the viscousness of her attacks made all of us in the salon so uncomfortable that several offered to call the police. For over 20 minutes she railed. And why? Because the color she chose didn't turn out as she liked and the highlights that she got for free by complaining weren't to her liking, either. The manager, Taven Canfield, offered many times to keep working with her until she was pleased, but nothing would satisfy her. Her hair, by the way, looked great. She yelled so loud the baby she was carrying was jostled and shaken as her tirade ramped up. When asked to leave, she refused in the rudest way. It was truly shocking to see someone that out of control. Her husband stood by and did nothing. Did Taven finally yell to get her attention? Yes, he did - but only after she verbally abused his whole staff. It did no good, however. She finally had to be escorted out by security. Seriously, it was a terrible thing to watch. I don't know what her real problem was/is...but it's not her hair. Faithful and contented customers like myself, did not appreciate being subjected to her filthy mouth and abusive behavior. So, if you are looking for a great stylist, I mean world class great, go to Gigi and ask for Taven. He's remarkable. I'm sorry to see this bad review and hope future customers will consider the source.
Horrible... Just Horrible. – I have gone to GiGi on six different occasions (two of which were re-dos), having seen four different stylists. In the beginning I would say I had pretty satisfying results both with hair dye and cut. The last couple of experiences were sincerely disappointing. six months ago I asked for caramel highlights to be added underneath my hair. The stylist whose name I cannot remember literally dyed half of my hair. At the top of my head I was a normal brunette. The bottom half was pure caramel. After avoiding mirrors for two days I finally called to get it redone in which I asked the same stylist to simply put my natural hair color back in, and she did a great job that time. Blaming it on miscommunication, I decided to go back this last weekend. This time I wanted to get all the highlights out and go darker. I said to AMANDA I wanted to be a dark brunette, but it was very important that it wasn't as brown as chocolate, but that it also wasn't black. I walked out of there spending a fortune looking like Cher. My hair was so black, I was SO embarrassed, I scheduled an appointment the very next day for a re-do. I told VALERIE the concern I had for my too dark hair and she said we could either cleanse it or add highlights. I asked to please cleanse it but she discerned that doing that could not only cause damage but turn it into a somewhat orangish-brown color. From that consult, I said then perhaps highlights would be best. She put blond highlights into my black hair, then sent me home with wet hair because she had other clients to attend to. After I got home I utilized the blow dryer only to find that I now had GRAY hair. I am just so embarrassed and so upset to be walking around like this. I've cried about it, lost sleep over it... I decided to go back and get my money back. I've got two daughters and a mortgage to pay and I was so distressed that I just spent a fortune on something that could have been done for eight bucks out of a box When I went back to see the manager TAVEN CANFIELD I confronted. When I demanded my money back I was met with immature bickering and defensiveness to the point where there was yelling. Taven yelled at me in front of my husband and two kids, screaming at the top of his lungs to get out and even tried to man-handle me out of the salon by my arm WHILE I had my two month old baby in my carrier. I was absolutely mortified. Security was called, who then called the Tigard police. ALL I wanted was my money back, and when I asked for a phone number for the headquarters, no one would give me the information. Its not like I have the funds or access to get my hair done frequently. When I go to get it done its once MAYBE twice a year so now I have to walk around with gray, outdated, embarrassing hair. If anyone knows of a salon more worthy of my money, please PLEASE let me know. I am sincerely, wholeheartedly discouraging you from going to this place. I fear you will waste your money and time. And quite frankily, this Taven doesn't deserve your business. I give it ONE star because Valerie and Amanda were very pleasant ladies and I enjoyed their company.
Worst haircut – Jess J asked what I wanted and I explained that I had been growing my hair out for a year and a half so that I could put it up at work, but that it needed a bit of shaping. She said she would layer the ends and I asked her not to layer too much so that I could still put it up/pull it back.
The result was that I lost about 1/2 the length in front and on the right side. The left side was left longer, but, of course, that doesn't exactly help. Then she took thinning shears to my fine, curly hair so now it is frizzy, as well as uneven. There are even pieces that are completely a different length than the hair around them.
Taven, a senior stylist, has promised to do what he can, but I have probably lost a year of growth.
Avoid this stylist unless you really want an asymmetrical choppy cut with no style.
Love my hair! – I was shopping around the mail and decided that I wanted to change my hair style. I went into Gigi and was teamed up with Jessica. We ended up cuting about 6 inches off my hair. I wanted a change and Jessica provided me with such great ideas. It was scary trusting someone new but she made me feel very comfortable. I was very happy with my new hair style! I went back a week later to get my hair dyed by Jessica, she did such a great job! Jessica was amazing and I plan to keep going back to get my hair done by her!
