Portland's Hidden Tattoo Treasure – This is the ONLY place I recommend for tattoo work in Portland! The are a custom shop, so no flash work and they will NOT copy other tattoos - don't go through the portfolio's or bring a picture of someone else's ink and say "I want that." They will work with you to create a unique piece that's designed just for you.

As of March 2010 their shop rate is $120/hr with a $60 minimum, which is fairly standard in this area.

As always, price should never be the most important factor when getting a tattoo. More important than the price is the QUALITY of the work, and Blackbird Tattoo is known for their high standards and professional artists. With over 30 years combined experience, you can rest easy knowing you're in capable hands.

Everyone in the shop is super friendly and open to conversation, so don't be afraid to ask questions or discuss your vision with an artist. They want you to be completely satisfied and have an active role in designing your tattoo. They will advise you of what works, what won't, and what their limits (and yours) will be during the process.

While there are other shops in town with great artists, Blackbird is the only shop I completely trust. They put a major focus on cleanliness and hygiene, taking extra steps to keep you SAFE. The artists here take the time to prepare their station thoroughly - keeping every surface clean and sterilized, completely wrapping their tattoo guns and wires to ensure protection, and following all necessary guidelines for safety.

I have never had any problems with my tattoos healing and in fact never had such an easy experience getting inked. Maybe I'm just getting used to it, but last session I barely felt anything at all!

So in summary, Blackbird Tattoo is a fantastic spot tucked away on NE 30th and Killingsworth with a reputation for cleanliness, uniqueness, friendly atmosphere and talent.

Great Shop – I did a lot of research in tattoo shops and artists when I picked my piece. I had been referred to check out blackbird and when I looked at Jesse's portfolio, I knew he would be perfect for the job. When I went in, I gave him a very small picture of what I wanted, he did an amazing job of not only bringing it to the size I wanted, but replicating it on my skin. I had no issues whatsoever with the piece healing, in fact it healed within 5 days.

Their rates weren't outrageous and they didn't require me to put $100 when I scheduled my appointment. I also didn't have to wait three months for an open slot, I had my tattoo within two weeks of walking in (it could have been sooner, but I didn't want to get a tattoo the week of midterms). The only problem I could see with this shop is a possible lack of street parking, but that can be avoided if you don't mind walking a few blocks.

LOVE this place – Great, the dumb a$$ below me writes a review based on the hotness of the girl behind the counter. Just want I am looking for when I am getting ink done.

Seriously though, I love this place. I have three tattoos and they are all done by Ren. The shop is clean, but it doesn?t have that sterile, doctor?s office feel to it. The staff is always willing to bull$hit with you and joke around. Thankfully they are also willing to give you their opinion as the artist, even if it?s not want you want to hear.

I love that they don?t have the panels on the wall where you pick a tattoo and get it within the hour. You are going to get art, not a drunken mistake you?ll regret sooner rather than later.

I don?t ever want to go anywhere else.
