Don't Dig It – As a former employee concerned about the well-being of the dogs I grew to truly care for at Dogs Dig It, I'd like to say (and sorry for the tiny barrage of comments, but these are issues I feel should be brought out into the open) that never in a million years would I take my dog to this place. I found the owners to be very deceptive to customers during the many months I worked there. For instance (one example of Ellie and Janel's less-than-ethical business practices among many, unfortunately), I knew several dogs there who were terribly unhappy and anxious, and the owners were left in the dark about it. One dog hid under a table the entire time and could only be coaxed out when his owner arrived. Another shy little boy was so disturbed by all the noise and commotion in the little dog room, he pawed my knee for hours trying to get me to pick him up, which, unfortunately, I was not allowed to do. There were at least four dogs who spent several hours in the corner of the yard just sitting there or hiding near the "playhouse" they had up against the wall. The "screening process" for dogs who might be somewhat less than social, or even antisocial, was totally bogus. As employees, we were all instructed NOT to speak directly with clients about their dogs' condition. We also filled out daily report cards for boarding dogs, and even if one was having a miserable time for whatever reason, we were told to write ONLY positive things. If Fido was afraid of all the other dogs? Twist it around to say that he was "sweet" and "gentle." The reasoning? "We don't want to alarm any of the clients."

We were almost always understaffed there, too. The 15:1 dog/human ratio they tout was, sadly, a very rare occurrence. On most shifts I was watching at least several more than that, occasionally 30 upwards at a time - alone. When so many dogs are together in one place, things can get out of control very quickly. As staff we did the best that we could with what little support we had, but there were just too many dogs and too few of us. I have also never seen a higher turnover rate at any place of employment I've worked before DDI or since. These were people who adored the dogs and had incredible rapport with many of them, a la Cesar "The Dog Whisperer".

I have no hidden agenda here, seriously, just genuine concern. If your dog has a wonderful time at Dogs Dig It and is excited every time you guys are walking towards the door, great. I knew a lot of dogs who were. But please. Exercise some caution if you're looking into this place. In a dog town like Portland with a myriad options to choose from, I'm positive there are better doggie daycares out there run by people who place more weight in making sure your dog is safe and happy than in the almighty dollar.

Rampage Loves Dogs Dig It!! – Dogs Dig It is hands down the most clean, trustworthy, and friendly dog day care in town.

Rampage looks forward to his "school days" each week, where he can happily play with his dog friends... Sammy Wiener, Rudy and Frankie.

Dogs Dig It have fabulous staff, and lovely owners (Ellie and Janel). We trust that Rampage is in great hands, and having a great time. Bonus is that DDI has web cams to check in on your dog at any time, A/C, heat in the winter, doggie pools and play structures, AND the largest outdoor play area in downtown Portland.

3 cheers for Dogs Dig It!!!

I wont take my dog to a place ever again! – So I was going to drop off Rocky and there was alot of people protesting outside. Come to find out the owners were requiring workers to work off the clock and when one of the workers said something about it they fired her! Not only that but they called her landlord and had her evicted. How did they do this, you ask? Because the owners were the ones who encouraged the worker to take in the RESCUED dog, which they knew was against the workers lease! WTF. I will not be taking rocky there EVER! Not to worry there is a great dogy day care two blocks west.

Truly Horrible Daycare – I would just like to start by asking if anybody has viewed there score on the better business bureau? Well, it's a 0. They tru;y do NOT know how to run a bisiness, whenever i took my dog there i never felt comftorble the manager and owners were very short with me and to be quite honest those arent the people i want to talk to about my dog i want to speak to the people who are actually taking CARE of my dogs, The Staff. And seriously who would choose to open a doggie daycare in the middle of a residential neighborhood? Imagine living next door to that. Anyways whenever i would pick my pup up he would stink.... not just stink but REALLLY stink, he was filthy and ive taken him to a few other daycares since and he was NO where as dirty or stinky. im just curious as to why these two "women" wanted to open up a doggie day care in the first place? They have no idea what their doing, there very poor at running a business. All I'm saying is think twice about taking your dog to this daycare maybe talk to the owners first and you will see what i mean. There are many other daycares out there opening up outside ares and that have the care for animals where they wont overcrowd and can actually have one on onetime with the dogs including the owners and managers.

My dog's home away from home! – My dog, Franklin, spends 3 full days a week with Janell, Ellie and crew and these might be his favorite 3 days of the week. Every morning that I tell him it's time to go to "school," he prances and barks with excitement. The employees are great with the dogs and have an innate understanding of dog nature and behavior. In fact, Franklin has shed some bad behaviors learned at the dog park since he started going to Dogs Dig It! I have also boarded him here before and had a wonderful experience. The pick-up and drop-off option is fantastic because it makes it possible for me to send him to daycare, given that I work 12 hour shifts. I just can't say enough about what a wonderful place this is and what a blessing Janell and Ellie have been in our lives!

In case you need a great doggy day care - you just found it – Lilly-our Golden Retriever has been at Dogs Dig it since she was a puppy and all of us just love this place. The owners and all employers are very friendly and really take care for their dogs - our dogs! They even try to address and help with little behavioral issues and also did some training with her when she was a puppy. The opening hours are great - during the week it is 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Not only the inside/ outside area but also the new artificial lawn is a great investment to keep the facility clean. I can't find any negatives (Well I was always a little scared of the huge number of dogs they take care of, but I have to admit they really have enough space and employers to keep it still cosy - family-like, so I am okay with the large number dogs they can accommodate. - Even the price is very reasonable. And I do not want to mention the web cam, where I find myself looking for Lilly during my lunch break - Fun!

Awesome Doggie Day Care – We have been bringing our pup to Dogs Dig It for over a year now. We had gone to one other day care before that and had such a bad experience that we did our research and found that DDI had incredibly loyal clients. The first time we brought him, the staff tested Beaumont out to make sure he would get along with the other dogs. He passed the test and was welcomed into the pack. We get to watch him on the webcam which gives us peace of mind that he is being well cared for. We like the fact that he gets to play both inside and outside and that the dogs are separated not by size, but by energy level. Each day when we come and pick him up we get a little report about how he did and occasionally are told about a new, special friend. He does come home with scratches now and again, but it would be ridiculous to think that he would come home unscathed after playing with other dogs for 8 hours. This has never caused concern so, it is a mute point for us. The owners, E & J are kind and make you feel like your dog is part of their family. Having owned a business we understand how important it is to create rules and regulations for not only employees, but clients too. We find that it is usually people who don't follow the rules who tend to question them and get upset about them. We have to admit that we read some of the other reviews on this site recently and started to question our feelings about DDI. But, we sat back and said, these other experiences have not been our experience at all so, why let them cloud how great we feel about bringing our boy to play there. Not to mention, our pup knows when he is going to day care...he's got the clues of those mornings down. He gets so excited that he stands by the door to the gate and won't come inside to eat his breakfast for fear, perhaps, that we'll change our mind! :) His excitement shows that he enjoys going there, he has never been timid or acted as if he has been unhappy and comes home so calm that we have two delightfully relaxed days after each visit. E and J, thanks for taking such good care of our son! Alex and Krista.

THE BEST DAY CARE IN PDX – This is the best doggie daycare in town. Not only are the prices unbelievably reasonable, but the staff gives you a daily report on what your dog did that day. They will tell you who your dog played with and fill you in on the day's activities.

I arrived a little early the other day to pick up my dog. As I watched the dogs playing outside I noticed that the staff was out playing too, giving each dog individual attention....I've never seen that anywhere else.

Stop your search now. You won't fine any place better than Dogs Dig It!

Wouldn't take my dog anywhere else! – My dog has been going to Dogs Dig It for over 2 years now, and I wouldn't take him anyway else. Prior to finding Dogs Dig It my wily critter had been to 2 other doggie daycares. I just wasn't impressed with their facilities or the way the handled the dogs. Actually, I found Dogs Dig It because they were recommended to me by the manager of one of those daycares!

Ellie, Janel, and their entire staff have taken the time to work with my dog, and I'm convinced he is as well-behaved as he is today in large part because of them. He was around 9 months old when he started there, so he was full of energy and could be challenging at times (not aggressive, just energetic, pretty darn smart, and always ready to play). The Dogs Dig It team has done a remarkable job over the last 2 years of working with him (and with me) to find ways to keep his active little brain and body occupied so that he doesn't get himself into trouble. I don't know where we would be without them!

Great People, Great Facility – The two women who own and run the place are obvious dog lovers, and meticulous about making sure that their staff is attending to the health and happiness of the dogs. They appear to run a tight ship, but the employees always seem cheery with the dogs, although it can't be an easy job. Using DDI is also probably cheaper than having a dog-walker, and your dog gets just as much exercise, playing with your dog's dog-pals at Dogs Dig It. You can even watch your dog at DDI running around on their two doggie-cams live online. They also have boarding, and if you need it, they have a little doggie-bus to pick up or deliver your dog. ! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
