Dogs Dig It is hands down the most clean, trustworthy, and friendly dog day care in town. Rampage looks forward to his "school days" each week, where he can happily play with his dog friends... Sammy Wiener, Rudy and Frankie. Dogs Dig It have fabulous staff, and lovely owners (Ellie and Janel). We trust that Rampage is in great hands, and having a great time. Bonus is that DDI has web cams to check in on your dog at any time, A/C, heat in the winter, doggie pools and play structures, AND the largest outdoor play area in downtown Portland. 3 cheers for Dogs Dig It!!!

Prior to choosing Dogs Dig It, I checked out 12 other daycares. Most were indoor rooms with too many dogs packed in with nothing to do and no room to play. All of the 12 smelled horrible. Although the staff at the other daycares were friendly and excited for my dog to join, I did not find them to be overly knowledgeable about dogs. I felt horrible about the idea of leaving my puppy in these depressing places. However, I knew right away that Dogs Dig It was different than all the others... clean; no smell; large, outdoor play area w/ artificial grass so she comes home clean; a viewing window into the play area as well as the ability to watch the play online; and a very knowledgeable staff who answers my questions. I have now been taking my dog twice a week for three months and cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. If you are thinking about a daycare for your dog, you don't have to look any further! It's worth the drive into Portland!

I've been in Portland about a year. I am a long time believer in Doggie Day Cares. I've taken my Violet to Doggie Day Cares in 2 states. She really is doing well here. The staff has been very patient with my OCD dog. They let me know when she wasn't playing or eating or just acting a little off. They even told me when she found a buddy that she always enjoy playing with. The place is super clean and well maintained. I love the Doggie Van! I don't use it that often because DDI happens to be very close to my job. It's the perfect location if you work downtown. You can park (if you get there early) near by and take the bus into town. Violet loves the water and when it was over 100 last summer they helped me feel secure that my dog was not going to over heat. They have training classes at the site. That has worked out great! Violet doesn't like other dogs on lease, so with the training and the staff's help we are working to overcome that issue. I've checked just about EVERY doggie day care. Some were really off, but none had this much out door space or as much staff. I read the bad reviews and it seems that someone needs to understand how businesses work. Plus, there is just a fact dog and children care staff doesn't pay well. These types of jobs have a lot of turn over for that reason. They are always going to feel under appreciated. Plus, I'm glad there are some out there that enjoy being in a room with barking dogs or screaming kids all day. I couldn't do it. I wish ya'll got paid more, but I don't control that. I will say. I'm impressed with most of the staff at DDI. One guy (can't remember his name) took great care of Violet when she was boarded. She has issues with crates. She stopped eating. The guy took the time to try to hand feed her. She needed to eat to get her medication, so I really appreciated his help. Unfortunately, the business owner can get sued for minor issues. You would likely never see the owner suing a customer for not being a good owner. After all, they wouldn't get more clients that way.You should check out the insurance rates if you have dogs meeting breed rules. It's insane! I understand the rules that DDI has. I don't always enjoy them, but I get it. A lot of day cares, boarding places, and vet offices have to have rules to protect their business.

Wally SO loves Dogs Dig It--and Janel and Ellie are so willing to work with his 'idiocyncracies' so he can have positive experiences. They and their staff are always able to give us feedback and suggestions so that he comes home happy and tired---always a sign of a good day at DDI! We highly recommend it!

I'll continue to support and reccomend Dogs Dig It. I've used other Day Care's and they are simply the best with their large outdoor play area.

Dogs Dig It and I Love It! – The proof is in the dog. We tried our dog at a different daycare and she was stressed all day--panting and uptight when we picked her up. After a few hours at Dogs Dig It, she was a different dog: relaxed, friendly, running around having the time of her life. In fact, she was having so much fun, we left her a couple extra hours! Want more proof? Check out their doggy cam anytime and she how your dog is doing. It's great fun to watch! The naysayers sound like disgruntled ex-employees to me; nothing more. This is the best thing we could've done for our dog!

Don't go to Dogs Dig It – I didn't want to give this place any stars, but Citysearch requires I give it some kind of rating

I knew 2 people who worked here a few years ago.

They both told me that they were disrespected, told to lie, the place was dirty, there was usually a very high dog:person ratio and they had to come in early without pay.

I went there once, just to check the place out, and the person in the front(one of the owners) was very rude to me.

Our dogs can't tell us what's happening when we're not there. Would you leave your baby at a place you're not sure about? And as far as boarding your dog there....I know this might be easier said than done but.....don't go away if you don't have someone good to take care of your animals. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE! GO SOMEPLACE ELSE! Yes, I did mean to yell.

Dogs Dig It Owners - Liars & Corrupt. Unethical to boot. – These are Facts, based on my experience as an employee of Dogs Dig It.

Janel and Ellie flat out LIE to their customers and they insist that their employees lie as well or face termination.

They absolutely accept "Agressive Breed" Dogs and they WILL, as I have personally witnessed, alter a customer's application to make it appear that the Agressive Breed is just a "lab mix". Their insurance policy specifically states that Agressive Breeds are NOT allowed - such as Doberman's, Pit Bulls/Staffordshire Terriers, German Shepards and Akitas. They have had every single one of those breeds in their daycare.

I've personally witnessed J & E completely disregard the pleas from employees to help dogs in serious medical distress. Some employees were told that if they (J & E) take the dog to see medical help and the vet determines nothing is wrong, that the EMPLOYEE would be responsible for the vet bill.

There have been times when close to 30+ dogs were being boarded at one time with only 1 person to take care of them. Your beloved dogs were forced to sleep in storage rooms, bathrooms, and any other room they could be put into. Dogs that were not related (meaning, they were not from the same owner/home) were sharing kennels, food and beds and clients were still paying full price. Of course, J & E made it very clear that this was NEVER to be mentioned to clients.

Also, for those of you that paid extra for the "Deluxe Room" - you were duped. Many people have paid for the Deluxe Room and their dogs never even stayed in the room or had to share it with several other dogs.

J & E will tell you, as will other staff - because they are forced to tell you this or risk termination - that the Human to Dog ratio is 1 person for every 15-18 dogs. That is a complete LIE. Most days there is only 3 people working in the yard for 40-60 dogs.

Maybe the reason you never hear about fighting, sickness, injuries or stress among the dogs is because J & E make it a point to LIE to you about it and as mentioned before, the staff is instructed to only say nice things about your dogs. This was always a huge source of contention amongst the staff, it made us miserable to follow this rule because we knew it was wrong and hurtful - but J & E's threats of termination, to deny Unemployment or good references was enough to keep our mouths shut. We were also told that we were not allowed to "gossip" or talk about daycare issues with each other or we'd be terminated.

Kennel Cough - a huge issue at Dogs Dig It. There were several outbreaks of Kennel Cough during my employment at DDI and almost always, Janel and Ellie would insist that the client's dog picked it up elsewhere and then bully the client when the client insisted this was not the case.

Dogs Dig It is not as clean as they would like you to believe it is. Yes, the employees did a lot of cleaning but honestly, how clean is it going to be when you have 30 or 40 dogs in one room and only 1 person to clean it? It gets really overwhelming.

J & E are rarely out in the yard, Janel more so than Ellie - Ellie NEVER worked in the yard during my employement there. So, I guess when you don't have to deal with it or see it with your own eyes, it makes it much easier to lie to your customers, right?

Indeed, customers & dogs are just $$ to them. Employees are treated poorly and often subject to ridicule, gossip and threats- by J & E.

During my time there, I witnessed the demise of several personal & professional relationships J & E had. They seem completely incapable of being truthful, caring, genuine people.

GREAT Daycare -don't let a fired employee tell you otherwise – My dog loves Dog's Dig It. It's clean and the pack is well controlled. I'm glad they fired the protesting employee. Not the kind of energy I want my dog around. I'll continue to support and reccomend Dogs Dig It. I've used other Day Care's and they are simply the best with their large outdoor play area.

I don't dig it. – Until recently, I was the manager of Dogs Dig It. I really loved the people I worked with and I really, really, really loved the dogs. It is also the worst job I have ever had.

I moved to Portland last June, filled with enthusiasm and excitement about my new job. I knew after my first day at Dogs Dig It that I wasn’t going to enjoy working there, but I knew I had to give it a fair shot. But the situation only worsened, and my outlook completely changed. I was panicked that I had just uprooted my entire life for a job I couldn’t see lasting longer than a few months. But after considering my alternatives (quitting in protest, struggling to find another job and being unable to pay my rent), I decided to stick it out as long as I could and do everything in my power to improve the conditions there for both humans and dogs. Just changing the schedule to ensure the employees got their legally mandated breaks took months.

I don't have the time to list all of the reasons why, but I will say this: knowing what I know about Dogs Dig It, the owners and the policies they enforce, I would never in a million years take my dogs there. If you would like to contact me for more information, please feel free to do so. I will answer honestly any questions anyone may have about my experience working there.

Furthermore, I can’t think of one person who would say they had a positive experience working there or say they feel kindly towards Ellie or Janel. That alone should speak for itself. Maybe your dog loves Dogs Dig It, and that’s great. But they love Dogs Dig It because of the amazing people that take care of them and play with them. Those people are not Ellie and Janel. Please consider taking your dog to a different daycare. Portland is a very dog-friendly city with many daycares to choose from. I know there are daycares who have honest businsses practices and treat their employees (and canines!) with respect and compassion.
