I hate fatty meat! – My husband brought the brisket and fries for me for lunch. Of course the fries are as soggy as can be (that always happens with take out), but the meat was so fatty I had to "clean" all the fat out before I could eat it. Gross!
Don't believe the hype!!!!!!!!!!!!! – My husband, daughter, son and myself went for breakfast. I had read reviews and knew we would be waiting so really wasn't surprised when the hostess said "about 45 minutes." The food was average, nothing really special. My husband had the two egg breakfast, I had the huevos rancheros, my son had the German pancake and my daughter had an omelet. The bill - $67.00! Are you joking? It's eggs! I make a better breakfast, including the German pancake (mine are much better!) and will definitely do so from now on instead of GDC. Gross, pretentious vibe.
Worst dining experience I can remember – My husband and I went to the Good Day Cafe with our 2 kids for dinner. They have no kids menu. My meatloaf was old and hard and had no flavor at all. My husband ordered the eggs and hash breakfast dinner. He assumed that because it was so expensive the hash was made in the diner. Wrong! It was Hormel hash out of a can. Eleven dollars for a hockey puck shaped mound of hash and 2 eggs.
It was just a terrible dining experience and I would never consider returning.
As perfect as a diner can be – I'd rather eat unpretentious food done well than ambitious dishes which fall short of the mark, and Good Day is an example of the first. Even the chicken noodle soup is amazing! And now that they're open for dinner, they're my favorite for three meals out of three.
Great food - long wait created by restaurant – I have to admit that the food here is really, really good. The wait staff is very nice - friendly and efficient. The bus staff is so nice and smiley and just as efficient. The coffee is excellent and the food is so much better than the average breakfast anywhere! Love the souffle omelets and the toast and the jam!
However, this cafe takes "call-ins". That's how they describe it. And the call-ins are allowed to walk in the cafe and wait a minimum amount of time and are shown to their tables. I watched. Some of them looked as though they just fell out of bed - all mussed and barely put together and they got seats well before anyone who was waiting diligently. (I saw an older couple get put off time and time again and had to keep waiting) When you walk in and are told that the wait is about 25 minutes you can expect that plus some. But when it gets to be close to an hour because the call-ins are getting right in then something is not good. It's understandable that there is a wait for such great food and ambiance but hard to watch those who called from their cars to sit down right away. A call-in should be put on the list in the same order that everyone else is put on the list. That's how other restaurants do it. It's fair.
Average Breakfast Experiences – I expected this place to be amazing. I have been there twice and I only think it is ok. I really love the cafe mocha and the fun mug they serve it in. I also love the decor and design of the restaurant. I ordered the egg sandwich the first time and I thought it was only average. I ordered the French spinach omelet the second time and thought it was only ok.
I loved the pancakes. I will go back just to eat those lovely pancakes. They taste like a regular cake at first, but the finish on the cakes is sweet and amazing!
Souffle to die for – The bacon and cheese souffle was out of this world, my husband really enjoyed his wild musroom bendict. The toast tasted as if the bread had come out of the oven this morning. I am not a fan of jam/jelly but this was really good too. The caramel rolls were flying out of the kitchen from my view at the bar area and people were buying them by the box load from the bakery behind me. I must try them next time. Its not the cheapest but was well worth the $33 we paid for the two flavorful meals plus extra toast and soda. There was a 20 minute wait at 11.30 which isn't really bad, you go to the uptown or hells kitchen, you have an hour wait, this place is huge. We were highly entertained by the bar staff making fresh smothies with exotic ingredients. I'd definately recommend this place!
Great breakfast – The food is exceptional. The only problem is the wait. They even make there own jams. Service is wonderful. You may want to go at a off time.
