A very nice dining experience – Tried this restaurant for the first time last night and truly enjoyed it. My wife and I ate upstairs and found the environs to be "formal" and very pleasant. I was surprised at the prices on the menu (ie. reasonable) as well as the selection. The quality of the food was "good" - after all this is not Block 5. The menu is easy to navigate. I started with a bourbon manhattan that was just right. The corn chowder was the only disappointment - the corn was chewy but the flavor overall was very nice. I had the small cut of roast beef ($14). My wife had the small filet mignon. We were both pleased with our meal.
The service was very good. They are dressed in formal kitchen whites (nice touch). I measure service by the transparency of the wait staff. I want them to be attentive to the diners' needs but don't want to see them milling about or interacting with each other for whatever reason. This can be very distracting.
It was a tad long getting the meal, but we prefer to relax. By the time we left the place was nearly full.
I made the reservation (6:45) online with no difficulty. Parking is valet (free). You will find great prices, good food, excellent environment and good service.
What a disappointment? – The night started on the right foot. The bartender made great drinks?. Then the craziness ensued. Our waitress was the pits. She was very inattentive. Our water glasses stayed empty for the better half of the meal. I ordered the crab and avocado appetizer which included three cubes of avocado. If an ingredient is in the name of the appetizer maybe it should play more of a dominate role in the actual dish. Our plates were taken once our entrees came out (very bad). The chicken under a brick is an awful dish. The couscous was bland, the chicken was bland, and if it tasted like brick it would be a step up. The scallop and shrimp risotto was acceptable. Our waitress came over once to see how we were doing. After about a half an hour we had to flag her down to get our check. We didn?t get dessert because we were so turned off by the service. If you like lack luster service and food this is your place!
