Southern-Style Soup - Great, Filling Grub – I was first introduced to Spoon when my company chose Spoon to cater our luncheon. At fist I was wary b/c I didn't think a bowl of soup would fill me up. Lord, was I wrong!!! Since my initiation a few months back, I've just about tried their whole menu. My favorite soup is the chicken tortilla although the meatball tortellini soup gives it a run for its money.

My experiences differ greatly from the previous reviewer. Perhaps he/she only went once or twice, but I've been there more times than I can count on both hands! Particularly, the fresh taste of the ingredients as well as the french bread and jalapeno corn bread (one comes w/every soup order) keep me coming back. I would also recommend the salads, roast beef sandwich, and the chicken noodle soup.

Now, Spoon can get busy during lunch hour; but I'd rather wait in line there than at some fast food joint drive-in. The Spoon folks actually smile! You?ll get your money?s worth and this soup will fill you up. I was raised in the Southeast w/filling meals and soups so I wouldn?t spend another second of my time in Spoon if it didn?t deliver. Shoot, I?d rather just whip up something at night for lunch than go to half the places out there.

Worst soup I've ever had!!! – A co-worker and I were looking for something nice and warm since it's cold out, so we decided to give Spoon a try. It's soup, how bad can it be, right? Wrong! We tried a variety of food they had to offer, and not a single one of them was anywhere near decent. We love supporting small local businesses, but this place just shouldn't be in business.

First of all, the price was NOT cheap. The soup was $5-6 for a small cup or $6-7 for a bowl, you can get much better soup for a lot less elsewhere. We got the Shrimp & Corn Chowder with Bacon w/ corn bread and Rosemary's Steak Soup w/ french bread, plus 1/2 Roast Beef Sandwich, 1/2 Turkey Bacon Sandwich. The 1/2 sandwich is listed as $2-3 extra with purchase of soup, so we thought: why not. For two people, with one drink (and one water), we ended up spending over $23, not cheap, for a decent sized lunch.

Now, on to the food... We got the bowl-sized soup since (1) The cup is tiny (2) It's $1 more compared to the cup that's 1/3 the size and (3) We were hungry. However, the food was so bad, we ate maybe 1/4th of each bowl before we just couldn't take anymore.

The chowder was tangy and watery, and just tasted bad in general, not how a chowder should be, in taste or consistency. The steak soup was had 2 small pieces of meat in it, and not flavorful at all. And the sandwiches..... Well, they consist of two pieces of stale bread with super-hard crust, one thick piece of tomato, one piece of store-bought sliced turkey or roast beef or whatever you get (and not the good kind), sliced cheese, and dressing soaked in the bread. O, and they were cold, like they were just taken out of the fridge kind of cold.... Definitely not "fresh" like they advertise. And service was sub-par, not horrible like the food, but not particularly good, either.

Bottom line is: however you cut it, this place is simply bad. If you're in the mood for good soup like we were, go somewhere else, this is not the place for you.

Soupalicious!!! – OMG!!! I had the tortilla soup and it was awesome. I highly recommend the corn bread too. Portions are generous and everything tastes very fresh. Support small businesses they are the best.

Editorial Review – Locally owned specialty soup shop in Irving also serves sandwiches and salads in a coazy atmosphere.
