Books-A-Million's Return Policy Problems – Today I had brought my nine-year-old daughter to the Books-A-Million Store in Monroe, Louisiana. For Christmas, just four days earlier, she received several books from Books-A-Million that she already had. ALL of the books had the Books-A-Million price stickers on them and all were in perfect, unread condition. We had traveled down from South Arkansas for her to return the books and pick out some new books, as she loves to read. The checker seemed very unconcerned about us and our daughter's books. She came up with some excuse about the "inventory" being wrong if she took them back. Of course we did NOT want cash for the books, only to exchange them for books my daughter did not have. After ten or so minutes of the cashier half way blowing us off, she called a manager who had the same uncaring, and inconsiderate attitude her checker had. I can promise you Books-A-Million was my daughter's favorite place to go and look for books. We made the hour and a half trip almost monthly for her to look for new books. I can promise you today, that after this episode, and lackluster customer service we WILL NOT EVER again purchase books from Books-A-Million. The total value of the five books was less than $20, but this is the principle of the matter. People buy girls books, they do not know the child's inventory of books she already has, and it is readily apparent and obvious to anyone with a child, that there do come times when children do receive the same gift at Christmas and/or a gift they already have. If this is Books-A-Million's policy on Christmas returns, then I warn anyone against buying books for ANYONE if they cannot take or exchange them for something they don't have. VERY disappointed in this experience and I can promise, I am not yet done. This will cost Books-A-Million much more than the less than $20 my daughter lost out in books. I will make it my mission to pass along this horrible customer service to everyone I know and vow to not stop this campaign until this policy is fixed- or Books-A-Million files bankruptcy like another popular book store recently did.
