Better than yo momma made – You ever find a great restaurant that serves you a dish and you continually go back to get because it is so
good, well at La Vista their is a slight problem , chef Greg Gordon continually comes up with new over the
top dishes to die for and this particular Friday evening sitting outside with good friends I selected the nights
special , a roasted beef shank on a bed of risotta with other good stuff with a red wine reduction...wow..
wow..wow .... not enough days in the week for such good food ...
Good variety of Italian food – My review refers to the Fountainview location. The outdoor patio seating leaves a lot to be desired. Do you want to sit overlooking the parking lot??? Service was good. Interesting menu with lots of choices, but a bit on the pricey side. BYOB is always nice. Come early or expect to wait for a table. A wee bit on the noisy side, so come early if you want a quieter dinner. It's hard to find a restaurant that serves Osso Bucco.
Nice Outdoor Seating, Go early unless you plan to wait – Great concept from the original on Fountainview and graced the outer Memorial area. You might pass it by if you are not looking closely. Great food, limited variety, consistent quality, average service and nice ambience. One of the great attractions of LaVista is the opportunity bring your on wine and pay a corkage fee. It allows you to have a much nicer bottle (and one of your own preference) of wine with dinner than normally offer or affordable off the menu. Great concept, more restaurants should adopt this enhancement. The restaurant has no inventory expense tied up in wine, and they can and should charge for pouring the guest?s wine. Better restaurants HUGH mark up on wine is getting out of hand. To charge $65 for a typical $20-25 bottle should be illegal. Please don?t for get to tip the waitperson for opening and pouring the wine; and additional $5.00 should do. I tip $5.00 - $7.00 per bottle of wine?regardless of the cost. To add 15-20% to the cost of the wine is preposterous; the same time and effort is expended by the wait person regardless of the price of the wine. Great job LaVista, keep up the good work.
Chef-owner Greg Gordon's cozy BYOB Italian favorite gets a second location in the Memorial Area. – In Short
This charming restaurant welcomes diners with tantalizing smells and a colorful, lively (and occasionally loud) atmosphere. Begin with house-made bread topped with figs, caramelized onions and pecans before sampling the garlicky mussels steamed in a white wine broth. Entrees include pastas like pillowy gnocchi and nutmeg-scented eggplant parmesan plus personal-sized brick oven pizzas. Grilled dishes offer creative New American flavors in the house favorite rack of lamb or cinnamon-coffee-cumin crusted pork tenderloin. Wine and beer served.
