Great place!!!! – Delicious food and great service. Didnt take to long to wait for the order. Also they have very good vine list.
Fabulous Fares – We had a fantastic dinner at Sofia and would definitely recommend it as a five star place!! Our waiter was Kenny, who was very charming and funny!! He made some wonderful suggestions since it was our first time there. We had the halumi salad and the crusted sesame salad, which were really great. Very unusual combinations of salad items which were GREAT! We shared two appetizers which were equally as delicious! Main course--lamp chops and a filet mignon--both were cooked to perfection. The entire meal was magnificent---which, by the way, coincided with the decor of the restaurant. We felt like we were in a villa in the Mediterranean...the place is absolutely gorgeous. (Don't forget to check out the bathrooms...you've never seen anything like them!!)
We dine out most frequently and this place is definitely one that we decided to comment on. The food, the service, the ambiance...it was just a great experience and one that we'll remember!!
Dining Out in Margate – Try Sofia Restaurant in Margate for a great dining experience. The menu selection is excellent with fares ranging from the healthy to the "I shouldn't really have eaten that much". The atmosphere is one of the best in the area and the Apple martinis are to die for. This is one of the only restaurant/bars in the area with live music every weekend. During the warmer months, try and get a table outside for an intimate dining experience that is similar to eating out in some of the finer restaurants in Europe. If you get the chance, check out the upstairs dining area, which looks like a castle dining room complete with a large fresco and fine woodworking, and the upstairs deck which is well appointed with flowering plants.
Wow, how bad can this be...really? – Let me preface this review by saying I used to be a waiter and a personal chef...I know food and service. This was one of the worst experiences I have had in a restaurant. I cut restaurants a lot of slack, but this pushed me beyond my breaking point. Sofia (the restaurant owner) was dismissive, rude and patronizing. We had a 7:15 reservation and didn't get seated until 8:15. No offer for drinks or appetiziers, nothing...we were just expected to sit at the bar and drink until they were ready to seat us for our table that we reserved an hour ago.
Next, we got seated after arguing with them to get the seat we reserved. The food was great, when they get it right. Fast forward to entrees, my lamb came out raw...we ordered medium rare. The waiter tried to convince me that raw was medium rare. As I stated earlier I was a personal chef, I know temperatures. It was Pittsburgh (ie seared on the outside and raw on the inside). We sent it back, by the time it came out again, the rest of our party was finished eating. Guess what, it came out just as raw as it was before.
When I had the audacity to ask for the manager,Sofia came back over and called me "naughty". Yeah, naughty because I wanted my $35 entree cooked properly. I told the waiter to have it cooked and wrapped so we could leave and continue our evening. Sofia seemed offended that I wanted to screwed up entree wrapped AND taken off the check, as if paying for a twice screwed up entree is a strange request. They offered to take the lamb off the check and a $50 gift certificate.
At every opportunity to do the "right" thing as a manager or restaurant employee they did the exact wrong thing. They don't belong in the hospitality industry as they have no hospitality. As I was leaving Sofia patronized me telling me "you'll enjoy that free lamb later, around midnight." They clearly have no concept that the customer is why they are in business.
Do not waste your time here!
Phenomenal Mediterranean Cuisine/Bar Scene – I must say this restaurant is a true, remarkable gem. The food is savory and perfectly prepared in every sense. Every bite of my Branzino was better than the last. The Baby Lamb Chops were PHENOMENAL. It was by far the best meal I have ever had. The service was attentive and genuine.
Lets not get started on the atmosphere, the beauty and opulence in this place is unheard of. I felt like I was in the mediterranean. Fountains, courtyards, chandeliers. WOW.
The evening I dined at Sofia, a Saturday in August, their band was so much fun. Not a person at the bar sitting, all dancing and having fun. Truly something to see. Great night Scene. I'm proud to call Margate my home, and Sofia Restaurant my favorite restaurant. I go there every weekend now to listen to that band and enjoy an impeccable dining experience. Bravo Sofia, Bravo.
