Is there a better date spot than Bluebird? Whether it's your first or your 50th, this Bucktown restaurant is dimly lit, and offers enough beer and wine to appease any tastes. The long, rustic bar is perfect for long-term perching, and the Belgian fries are the ultimate nosh with a cold glass of Hoegaarden or Chimay.
excellent food – I think Bluebird is more known for their beer and wine selection, but I was very impressed with the food too! I went with a friends, and we actually didn't get any drinks, but we shared the beet salad, chicken wings, and a flatbread.
The flatbread was topped with bacon, arugula, and pine nuts--absolutely perfect. The salad and wings were great too.
Our server was likable, knowledgeable, and considerate. We had actually ordered the beer braised rabbit, but our server could tell that we were slowing down after the first three dishes and was kind enough to put the last one on hold.
Everything was well priced too, overall a great value.
Love the Bluebird – Sure the bartenders are a little snotty, IT'S A WINE BAR. Doesn't mean they aren't helpful and easily broken down. I've been to the Bluebird about a dozen times. They have an extensive wine and beer list and lots of great bourbons/whiskeys. I recently took my 82 year old mother there for a prosecco on her birthday before heading off to Le Bouchon. She loved hanging out at the bar as the afternoon sun was shining in the open windows. Their flat breads are delicious and, when available, they carry Goose Island Bourbon Stout, which is amazing. I wouldn't recommend the Bluebird for a sit down meal-their drinks and lighter fare are more interesting and reasonable than their entrees.
Very Disappointing – Uneducated bar tenders try their hardest not to please in this poorly run and rude establishment.
If you wish to pay for extremely over priced beer and cardboard food join the line of fools.
Quality wine list, reasonable prices, great decor – The service at Bluebird was excellent...our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and dishes. Bluebird's decor is very subtle warehouse style, with exposed brick walls and a stylish bar running along the length of the main dining room. It seems the director put careful thought into the wine list. The list isn't large by any measure of imagination, however the wines that appear on the list are mostly non-American. I was able to find some great Spanish, Portuguese, and South American wines for below $40 a bottle.
The food was surprisingly good with larger than expected portions. The dishes here are referred to as "Large Plates." We tried a handful of the menu items and were impressed by the chick pea salad, the mussels, and the seared flank steak.
I really enjoyed Bluebird, thought the prices were very reasonable and will be returning soon.
Bucktown wine bar and gastropub visits Old-World dishes prepared without pretense. – In Short
With its exposed brick and antique wood walls, this intimate bar is at the same time inviting to the well-dressed 20- and 30-somethings who come to enjoy the 100 different wines and more than 50 beers available. Made from recycled wine barrels, the sturdy bar provides the centerpiece of activity where patrons can choose from wines arranged by color or climate of origin to pair with hearty dishes like braised rabbit or lighter fare such as crabmeat and watercress salad.
