A newly-opened gastropub goes roaring twenties retro in the hinterlands of Park Slope. – The Scene
Deco fixtures and made-from-scratch cocktails channel old-school New York at this humming addition to the south Slope. Past the mahogany bar stands an open kitchen (a rare sight in these parts) with a team of cooks in pressed whites, and eager-to-please servers attend to those who've managed to snag one of the coveted black walnut banquettes.

The Food
Chef John DeCoursy's raw bar experience at Blue Ribbon is in evidence with a towering oyster plate, while another appetizer features mousse-like pate sweetened with Granny Smiths and spread atop finger-thin crostini. The buttermilk fried chicken is the real coup d'etat, moist and perfectly seasoned with a hearty bacon vegetable succotash. Though the bulk of the approachable menu is American bistro fare, there are some global nods, including a retooled bahn mi with cibatta bread sitting in for a baguette--if that doesn't offend purists, the lack of spice might.

Hits: The spot proudly bucks the neighborhood dive trend with classy digs and a well-conceived food and cocktail menu.

Misses: Organizational kinks, such as the difficulty it can take to get someone's attention to seat you at a table (there's no host station).

Decent food, terrible service - we won't be back. – We were excited to try out this new spot in our neighborhood - but unfortunately were quite disappointed and probably won't be back. Despite some decent food (crostini with pate, pulled-pork sandwich) and a few really tasty items (fried chicken with root mash, nice burgers), the service was so terrible that it really turned us off. Also, the music was turned up too loud to talk.
