Great Beer Selection, FANTASTIC Bacon. – I initially started going to Paddy Long's because a couple friends of mine were obsessed with their beer list. I'm a bit of a beer snob myself, so I was excited to see that they had everything from obscure Three Floyd's beers (Arctic Panzer Wolf) to a good old Delirium Tremens. But I've been even more impressed by the food the last two times I've gone in.
They've started doing beer and bacon tastings a few times a week, and they always seem to be pretty full. People sample five beers paired with five different types of bacon. I've done the tasting once, and it was delicious. They're supposedly adding even more bacon-related items to their menu (YES) including...a Bacon Bomb. The bartender mentioned to us yesterday that they're adding this delight to their menu--it's five pounds of ground pork mixed with peppercorn bacon and COVERED in a bacon weave of maple bacon. I'm not sure when they're adding this to the menu, but I will definitely be back to check it out.
Horrible service and not worth your time or money – Went there on a Saturday for brunch and never got served. The bar was under staffed, with only 3 people working. The bartender was behind the bar and also taking food orders at individual tables. He proceeded to serve patrons who walked in after us, and did not take our order until we went to him. Then we proceeded to wait another 45 minutes. Finally, one of the other Paddy's employees came over and asked us what we had ordered. Turns out the bartender never put the order in with the kitchen. Additionally, during the hour or so that we wasted, 4 separate tables left without receiving their food, bills or any service. In the end we left hungry and mad.
If you're looking to drink water and not eat, then I guess this is the place to go. You wont get any more service than that.
Fantastic Pub – Went there with friends for a pint and some food - the burgers were some of the best any of us had eaten in Chicago. Fish and Chips and the Irish Breakfast get a big thumbs up as well. Great people working / hanging out there too. Gets crowded later on, but what good pub doesn't?
Great food, unique neighborhood bar – This bar/restaurant is charming and unique. It may seem like a dive bar from the outside but is cool and new on the inside and has great service with awesome food. The beer-battered chicken is to die for! A rare find.
Decades-old neighborhood bar turns convivial sports pub and grill. – In Short
A baby-blue facade frames a red wooden door--a shocking contrast to the once-dingy Lawry's facade. Inside is warmly lit--bright even by pub standards. The bar to the left gets busy, the comfy bar stools at a premium, and high-boys flanking the opposite wall fill up quickly, too. Decor is limited to mustard walls, blond wood, rugby posters and a shiny tin ceiling, but the post-college regulars are focused on their pints and flatscreens.
Come in, the beer is fine! – For the active, bustling neighborhood, it is a haven for a good slow-down moment. The people are friendly and take you in like a long-lost cousin. There are interesting beers to try, as well as a bounty of knowledge on sports most Americans have never heard of (plus the ever-present baseball/football.)
The Fish & Chips are very good, as is the hamburger, and there are Panini and hot wings for those who have never heard of "pub-grub".
A happy gathering of Irish (with the occasional bagpiper) that makes you feel welcome, whether you drink Guinness or lemon-aide.
You can look out the flower-draped window and see the frenzied people from the gym across the street go by, looking in with desire, while you sip your Delirium Tremens.
