A delightful dinner – we have had dinner on 3 occassions at Pinnochio and each time was wonderful.. The decor is pleasant, it's not to loud and the wait staff have always been very accomodating. We order the calamari everytime and it is always crispy and tasty, not chewy or fishy. We have also enjoyed braised short ribs and the risotto. Friends of our ordered the baked lasagna and no one was disappointed. As far as the wine list goes, no matter where you go it is always going to be inflated so we always bring our own and just pay the corkage fee.
Good food, great wine and an excellent staff! – I'm always taken care of at Pinocchio. Lots of Italian classics to choose from, along with a few with a twist. The salmon carpaccio I had was to die for and the pasta fruitti di mar was chock full of seafood--as it should be. The wine list is great and reasonably priced. Haven't tried the happy hour yet but I will.
Best town and best Italian restaurant – Portland is without a doubt one of the best cities on the West coast. Had a great dinner and a couple of glasses of great wine tonight and was taken by the attentive service, good food and nice, comfortable surroundings. Great spot just off Broadway near the park blocks. Found out the owner has roots from Italy and New York with interesting personal stories of music and theater personalties. Ask him about the Rolling Stones if he has time and then enjoy dinner.
I've been everywhere else and now I have something to talk about! – The service was great! Our waiter was always there when needed! The food was great too and atmosphere felt like Europe without the 16 hour plane flight. Go here if you want something completely different from anything you've experienced in Portland. Highly recommended for foodies looking for something new and different from the mundane!
Great time, Dinner! – We've been coming to Portland for several years and just found the best Italian place on SW Park and Salmon. Fun atmoshere and owner was very gracious. We asked for a dish without wheat products and they were very accomodating. House wine was very good. We liked the warmth of the space and nice service. Will recommend it to anyone coming to Portland or any Portlanders. We haven't found better in all our trips in and out of the U.S.
Ambiance, Great Food, Smiling Faces – We've lived in the cultural district now for more than six months...we enjoy all that this neighborhood has to offer, including our favorite dining spot, Pinocchio's Restaurant. Want a beautiful drink? Want to relax while dining with friends from out of town? Want a delicious, prompt meal before a show? This is the place. The friendly staff makes the meal even more enjoyable...you can't go wrong and I'm right! Enjoy!
Wonderful Walk-by – Stumbling around downtown after having dinner and drinks at Dragonfish my parents and I wandered by Pinocchio. We saw the fabulous decor and decided to stop in for a few martini's. Vanessa (the owner's daughter) was one of the best bartenders I have ever experienced. She poured me an excellent hendricks martini and had the perfect solution for my mom, who was looking for something sweet. She made her a vodka martini with triple sec and muddled fresh raspberry. My dad ordered a makers on ice and was very pleased with the presentation. She answered all our questions about the place with an attentive and engaging attitude and made for a very pleasant bartender. We only browsed the menu, but my mom saw a childhood favorite she hadn't had in years. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for a good atmosphere and a great drink. I dont know what the heck these people are saying about bad or slow service... Vanessa was amazing. I want to go back there right now... maybe I will!!!!!
Best authentic Italian food in PDX – Ok, I've been here 3 years and only miss the real Italian food we used to get. This was a charmiing experience. The owner introduced himself and I felt I was home. Michael has done a great job of recreating the original New York Italian menu forPortland. Thank God! I don't have to fly back to get the real deal. The place has charm. Great selection of wine. Our service was not pushy and we were well tended to from the antipasta plate, wine, dinner, more wine and great dessert. Nice place for a great evening out if you like to visit and talk. If not, go to Burger Kine. Funky, fun and warm for downtown Portland. Nice job all around, Michael and staff. We'll be back.
I found THE BEST hamburger, french fries, Lamb Raggu and Roasted Beet Salad in a Great Italian restaurant! – This is my first review but when you find something REALLY good you want to tell others, so here goes.
I don't know where the previous reviewer went but it wasn't the same place we were!
I'm not a drinker but stopped in at Happy hour to look around and get a quick bite to eat. I got a great price for one of the best Hamburgers ever! I'm not a wine person but after a nice conversation with the owner and the special blend of wine he had made for his "house" wine, I had to try a sip. It was very good and I generally don't like wine. The restaurant is light and airy with a whimsical arty flavor. I liked the atmosphere, it was warm and comfortable. The bar has windows to the south park blocks and if you're by yourself it's fun to relax and watch all the different people in the park come and go.
I came back Saturday evening with my friend for dinner. We had a fabulous lamb raggu (sp) and Antipasta plate. The wine was great and the complimentary bread was just right..
Service seemed warm, above average but not too chatty. Some restaurants are too loud but we could carry on a nice conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, staff was very pleasant and responsive. I would recommend Pinochio's to anyone.
As a side note, I'd like to know how you get into the chef's kitchen. I don't think I've ever been invited into a chef's kitchen anywhere. Was the other person just trying to get something for free?! Anyway, give it a try for yourself, I think you'll really like it! If you go during Happy hour, be sure to order the burger!!!!
It was never very good. – Food here is sub-par. Service follows suit. Management has attitude, but they are drowning in debt because they have no bums on seats. Why? save your money and get a decent meal at their competition. The steak was hard, dry and overcooked. We asked to speak with the manager and got the sour owner. Obviously, he is used to listening to complaints, right? Well, he had some back handed remark and walked away after we respectfully attempted to tell him our food was less than satisfactory. As for the cleanliness, the place needs sprucing up in the kitchen. It's a feeding groud for bacteria, no wonder people are getting illnesses. I never write these things, but thought it was worth my time to provide constructive criticism in a forum that people can review. One of the worst restaurants in downtown.
Great atmosphere – I appreciate the inviting and un-stuffy style. The food is very good and the staff works hard to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I saw a large office party accommodated beautifully in the dining room without a hitch in service or annoyance for other patrons. I'd come again and bring family (including youngsters), friends or co-workers.
