What Happened? – I have been going to Momizza Pizza almost since it opened. At least three times per week, but something has changed in the last few weeks and I am not sure what it is. I called in for a delivery and I was told on 3 different occasions that "we are not doing deliveries right now". The quality of the food has changed and the service has definitely changed. I do not think I will go back or order pizza from them any time soon.
Friendly and accomodating – My mommy play group went here tonight for our first get together in months. It was the perfect place for 6 rambunctious toddlers to grab a slice, wolf it down, and play around a bit, while we got to catch up in between bites of made to order pizza and freshly tossed garden salad. I thought the sauce was great with a delicious real tomato flavor, and a crust neither too heavy nor thin. The large salad was perfect to split between two adults. I called ahead to say we were coming, and the manager had fresh slices ready to go for our hungry crew. He didn't reheat the kids slices by his suggestion so they wouldn't be too hot for the little ones. That was very thoughtful. It was a warm, friendly place with good, fresh food; a perfect place for catching up with old friends, big and small.
The best of the east coast style pizzas in Portland – There are only 4 pizza places my wife and I would go to in all of Portland. Momizza and Stark Street (92nd and Stark) are of the eastern US style, and we like Momizza better, as they seem to use higher quality ingredients. Apizza Scholls (40th and Hawthorne) and Ken's (off Hawthorne at 28th) make a more "rustic", more southern Italy style pizza, both of which are very good, but of all of them, we like Momizza best.
The people at Momizza seem to be a little more accomidating to make exactly what the customer wants; partly because they are open just 3 months, and are still experimenting to some degree.
Momizza also makes calzones and the thick crust Sicilian style pizza, if that is what someone prefers.
They have a small selection of beer in bottles. The selection could be improved and expanded upon. The best selection is at Apizza Scholls....
Editorial Review – Serves up piping hot pies in a traditional setting.
