Exotic-ethnic Ethiopian eatery brings the heat to Cambridge – It's easy to see why this longtime South End favorite expanded. The crowds come in search of spicy vegetable and lentil dishes, a variety of African beers and wines and, most popular of all, the injera bread. Supping from bowl-shaped wicker tables known as mesobs, devotees revel in the elbow-to-elbow, communal dining style the dishes encourage. And be prepared to get your hands dirty. With no silverware, you'll be digging hands-first into dishes like Doro Wot, a chicken dish made with lemon, red peppers, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. It's enough to make you feel like you've been transported to Ethiopia; or, failing that, the South End. Close enough.
Fabulous place to eat – Really good food, and the service is wonderful. The appetizers and lamb dishes are a must try. Wish they had a better drinks menu though.
When in Cambridge by Brian Kastel – When in Cambridge you have to check out Addis Red Sea Ethiopian Restaurant. I took several friends there after our weekly meeting last Wednesday and we just loved it. Do ask for more bread! Great family atmosphere and kid friendly. The food was the best I have had in four and a half months. Bring the kids!
what a let down : ( – I waited for this place to open for months. The south end location has been on my list of all-time favorite restourants for years. I have gone to the Cambridge location 3 times... each time hoping that it would be anything close to what I have always expected at the south end location. The service is horrible, the value is horrible, the servings are much smaller (in the combination platters) than at the other location. All 3 times we have been there we have had to ask where the food is after waiting for a very long time. I smell the food cooking through the whole neighborhood at 10 am every morning so I would assume they are just heating up the food (mostly stews, lentils, etc) which shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Not almost an hour! I've never been more disspointed in a restaurant. boohoo.
