Best Sports Bar – I must say that the friendly staff, great food made this an ideal place to hold a party for my wife's birthday. They worked to accomadate our every need. The food was fabulous, and the atmosphere was fun and energetic. Whether your looking to book a party or sit down and enjoy a game with a bunch of friends this is a great place in Portland that everyone should enjoy. I highly recommend Macadam's and am positive you will enjoy your visit.
Great Up-Scale Sports Bar – My husband and I visited Macadam's to watch my cousin's band play...Scott Gallegos. Check him out!! He's awesome!
We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar, the fact that it is non-smoking and the food was great! And my hubby loves shuffleboard. We will definitely be back!
Great Service – I just started to frequent Macadam's recently and have had great experiences. The bartender is always great and poors a good drink. They're always happy to find any game I want. The NTN trivia is a blast too.
Haven't tried the food yet.....
great service and fun place to go – i went on a live music night and it was a good time and the food is really good too. well worth it to check out.
Terrible place! – This place has less ambience and personality than a surburban TGIFriday's. It seems from looking at the other reviews that I am not alone in how I feel about this place. Terrible service, watered down drinks, and awful food. Maybe the owners should spend less time defending their shortcomings on here and more time improving their business.
I guess non smoking bars really are that hard to find – I've been here about six times since the place opened, and there are few things to like so I'll start there.
Five of those six times our servers have been exceptionally good looking, with no attitude and actually very friendly and even fun while remaining professional. Its lovely that it is a nice big space. Now we're done with the good stuff.
Food - wreched, and yes i know, its bar food. The sixth time we came in at about 10, menu said they closed at 11. Our wait person snapped "we're closed!" when we asked if we could order a drink. When they came back by i said "this menu says you close in an hour, did you change your hours?" "NO! we need an hour to close down the kitchen" and walked off. I didn't figure pointing out a gin and tonic didn't require much in the way of cooking, but opted to leave instead. The time prior to that, i had the 'opportunity' to order 4 or 5 drinks. Before that time, i honestly though "watered down" drinks was an expression. I had a manhattan - what i got was icky sweet and bitter, tasting like 7 up and somewhat carbonated. Instead of being amber brown, it was more of a smoker's yellow. After 5 drinks, i still felt 100%, i'm guessing that between the five, i still had less than one jigger of booze. I can usually feel a substancial impact with one glass of wine or half to one cocktail. Double that amount and i start to feel drunk. I would never have ordered 5 except that 5 should have put me on the floor and yet after 4 i still didn't even turn my trademark "red after the first sip".
Here's one place i wouldn't mind seeing taken over by a chain place if they had decent food and drinks.
We never close at 11 pm and our hours aren?t listed on our menu. We do close at 10 pm on Sunday?s during the winter.
If you are speaking of our restaurant, I find your comments upsetting. First, we pride ourselves on providing a fun, casual atmosphere that ALSO offers a menu superior to ?bar food.? We prepare our menu items from scratch using local ingredients whenever possible and typical ?bar food? is deep-fried, pre-made frozen product. We also don?t want to be an establishment with a reputation for gauging customers when it comes to food or cocktails. Our bartenders are well trained to free pour the correct amount of alcohol for each cocktail, so I am shocked to hear you had several drinks that you felt were watered down. If you had spoken up, we would have gladly poured you a new drink.
I would ask you to give us another chance, but if you have truly had six unsatisfactory visits, we may not be the right place for you.
Great Food & Happy Hour Price – This place with the non-smoking is wonderful. Their happy hour is amazing and the shuffle board for free can not be beat. I think you just have to get the right waiter. I can see them being run ragged so I do think they could stand to hire a few more, but we always sit in Kevin's section and we get great service and he always on the go bring us food and our drinks.
This place is great for any happy hour crowd!
Classy and Clean - Great non-smoking Sportsbar – Great place to watch a game or just to hang out for drinks and good food. Clean, classy interior and no smoking!! Lots of TV's, shuffleboard, Pool and Live bands on the weekends. I recommend the Happy Hour food specials, can't beat the price!
Consistently good food but really inconsistent service. – This place is not far from our home and every time I suggest that we go there I always have second guess my suggestion because the service there can be so horrible.
I made my suggestion to go there last night (Sunday) thinking that it would be somewhat lively and not too crowded since it was Sunday night football. The place as expected was 1/2 full at 7:30pm which is what I had figured however there were only 2 people working the entire restaurant. TWO PEOPLE!! The bartender and a waiter. The waiter did the best he could and told us that they were shorthanded since 2 other people went home. We were understanding and patient with our meals except for the fact that he screwed up our order but when he too it he did not write anything down (why do people do this?? is it a game for them??).
Anyway..after talking to him I learned that 2 people went home because they thought that they were not going to be busy that night. Are you kidding me? A Sunday night at a sports bar? You are supposed to be a full restaurant not a bar are you not??? How could you send people home?
I feel obligated to write this review since this was the worst it has ever been here. There are times before where they have been somewhat shorthanded and not really ever staffed properly. In the times that I have eaten there I have never seen a manager or anyone really who looks in charge besides a hostess.
I wish that this place spent more money on their staffing as opposed to buying another 1/2 dozen flat panel TV screens. Maybe someone there will read this review and wake up. No one will come and watch your TV's if your service is horrible.
I am so sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience. My husband and I own Macadam?s and take each and every unsatisfied customer personally. When we opened 18 months ago, we set out to provide a fun sports bar that, unlike others offers a clean and comfortable atmosphere, a quality menu and superior service. I come from an extensive customer service background and know that no business can succeed without taking exceptional care of their customers.
I looked in our log for the day you were in and our Manager had indicated that they got an unusual rush right after 7 pm and, although they did the best they could, were unable to give some tables the service they would have liked. Since then, he has been more cautious about sending people home too early. My husband and I do care very much about our customers and our business and are there six days a week trying to be sure things go smoothly. I hope that I can meet you if you give us another opportunity to meet your needs.
Editorial Review – Sports bar quiets growling stomachs with hefty burgers and a great beer selection; features pool, darts and giant TVs.
