yummie – every time i go back to villains there is something new to tempt me. whether i'm trying the latest brew on tap or diving into the house smoked pulled-pork sandwich (with cole slaw so tasty i've seen people lick the plate) i always leave satisfied. the scratch kitchen is a breath of cool breeze in a world of micro-zapped-mediocrity. i love kickin' it there i'm sure you will too. good times to be had by all.
great owners, sweet staff, and an amazing dj – *WARNING* go once, and you'll soon become a regular!
I typically go on a friday or saturday night, so this review comes from this specific perspective.
If I'm there early enough to catch the kitchen before it closes I make sure to order the fried macaroni and cheese bites, just typing it makes me crave them. Their clamari is also one of the better varieties I?ve come across.
The crowd in Villains always varies, given its location. Anyone from Columbia students, to young professionals, to indie kids, to older business men, people watching never disappoints in this place. You?ll always be greeted warmly by any one of the owners, made up of 2 brothers, Marco and Miguel, and their cousin Pete. The bartender will also make you feel comfortable as soon as you step in. Greg always has a smile on his pretty face and is ready to fill up your 10oz. martini glass with some delicious concoction ;) That?s another ?great? about this place, they charge the same amount for their large martini?s as any other place charges for their 8oz. ones.
Also on weekends, DJ Joe gets people moving. He tends to play more electro, indie-dance-rock, garage genres of music. I find myself singing along more than not :) If you keep your eyes open you can also see his slim, tall frame bouncing along to the beat.
South Loop hang channels Elvis, Warhol and other American icons of bad-boy style. – In Short
A yellow neon sign looks villainous hanging from a dingy facade. Contrastingly, textured, floral pattern velveteen wallpaper looks Vegas-ready in black and gold. Several walls sport dizzying basket-weave wall panels. The long bar features a repeating Warhol Elvis image at knee-level; at eye level, friendly bartenders serve potent, rocker-themed cocktails in oversized martini glasses.
