Want to be beat up? – I attending the HIM concert was up by the stage on the far left. The whole time I had a tall guy punching me hard in the ribs and the back, also kneeing me in the back of my legs trying to get me to fall, just so he could get 2 feet closer. When I told the fat black bouncer I was being punched, he told me it was a rock concert and If I didn't like it, to leave. Real nice! He even saw the guy doing it and walked away! So now I have bruised ribs. I will never go to that venue ever again. I'm a 5'1 tall girl! The sound quality sucked so bad all you can hear is the bass drums and vocals are almost impossible to hear.
I like it – Unlike the others i havent had a bad experience with The Showbox sodo, except when i passed out, in which the staff were totally cool about it, once my dad helped me out of the crowd, they took me out back and gave me some water. They even told chris cornell that i passed out and had to leave, and he gave my dad a gutiar pick for me. But i went back later for another chris cornell concert, in which i actually stayed for was great! The sound was great, i could hear it perfectly outside. It does get hot in there though, but i liked the venue, and will go back.
Unfriendly, power-hungry staff, poor sound quality – I've spent many a day in various music venues through out the US and let me say Showbox Sodo's flaws lie solely on their staff. Upon arrival, I am overly, intrusively searched. Before I even enter the facility, a beefed up bouncer is going through my wallet and every pocket of my purse while people behind are starting to sway and cross their arms. My sister is with me and asks where 'will-call' is located, another gruffly metal-dressed bouncer response in a huff, "um, it's over there, are you going in together or separate because he's going to have to search your bag again [looking in my direction]?" Next, it's ID checking time. The guy looks me up and down, flashlighting every feature with a look of detest on his face. I felt like an East Germany attempting to cross into West Germany before 1989. Once I crossed the barricades, I witnessed the staff being overbearing, sarcastic, and downright mean to various patrons. The staff, a group of blatant power hungry vultures, was all over the crowd. Flashing lights on people, taking away cameras (with flashes), separating people by force, yelling at people because of drinks, following people, budding up to be extra intimidating, and lacing people with incriminating stares. It was very bizarre, uncomfortable and pathetic. Since when is going to a Kooks concert in Seattle, the equivalent of 'partying' in soviet Russia? If this is the future of Seattle venues, count me out.
TERRIBLE SOUND!!! – We were there on Saturday for the Delerium concert. HUGELY disappointed. They left all of the doors open so it was freezing the entire evening. The sound was awful!
Editorial Review – This 1,500-seat venue attracts notable touring bands through its solid reputation on the national alternative, hip-hop and rock scenes.
