Magnolia is the BEST! – This Austin staple is must try for anyone looking for a great, AFFORDABLE and stylish haircut. Magnolia is Aveda trained and will give you same salon experience and expertise as any one of the other snotty, high priced salons in Austin, for half the price! You definitely have to go by and try her out! I promise you won't regret it!
snottiest salon in Austin – Well if you want a snotty little miss thing that thinks she knows it all to cut your hair then you have come to the right place. Two stylists in particular (Kim,Vanessa) didn't seem to know what they were talking about regarding hair, but sure liked to talk about themselves. And what was that smell? (BO or something!) Well as far as the haircut I thought we must be running a race. Anyhow I guess if you are in a hurry, like self-centered people, and don't like to bathe then you will probably be in heaven. As for me I prefer someone that can carry a conversation and showers.
great half a$$ed service... if you dont care about quality.. – Okay I've been to birds at least six times, and tried a different stylist at different locations everytime. And everytime, even with scheduled coloring appts, I have to wait at least thirty minutes and get an attitude. if I wanted some beauty school reject who doesn't know how to work with much color, except bleaching the jizzo out of your hair then putting cheap dye on it, to do it for 200 then go here. They aren't very technical with their knowledge, and I get the impression that they don't know much about actual hair. they can give you the new trendy downtown haircut they all seem to be shooing for, irregardless if you asked for it, or it it looks right with your hair type or your face. They are like all twentyone- twenty three year old ...too cool for school trendy hairstylists who dont know what the hell they are doing, dont ask too many questions about the cut, texture, color, and dont ask for anything too complicated, becuase you will always end up getting the same cut that the hairstylist is trying to trend up on and lots of attitude to go with it, guess it's like most austin trendy stuff, looks fun and you want it to work, you really do, but the actual substance and depth just aren't there. I don't like snooty salons either, but at least they have an attitude and some knowledge to go with, so you walk out looking cute. these girls, have cute styles on themsleves but cant seem to get it together to produce a cute cut or style or even an even cut and style on anyone else.. thats prob why all there cuts or razored to hell and lopsided, its not on purpose. if your about being trendy and getting a "i cut it at home look" then save yourself the money and ask a drunk friend to do it, same look just for free, or do it yourself, cuz thats what you will be doing when you are trying to fix your lopsided mullett, or whatever they hell they decided to give you that time. I wanted to love it but uhuh, for girls this place is just horrible, its good for dudes. .
My new regular barber shop – After seven years of going to the same barber and getting the same haircut he up and quit/got fired and I have not been able to track him down. I tried 5 or 6 different places before chosing Birds to get my bi-weekly haircut.
I almost walked out of the "Keep Austin Wierd" salon when I found out there are no barbers at Birds Barber Shop. "We have some guy that comes in on Tuesdays" was the response I got. I was annoyed by the misadvertisement and started for the door when I was offered a cold Lone Star. Beer? OK, you have my attention. I got my high and tight by a stylist instead of barber and I have been back every week and half since.
Loved everything about my new haircut! =) – The most important aspect to getting a haircut is finding a person who can handle your hair gently and yet give you the style and treatment that you want. Thats exactly what I got here! Vanessa was so gentle with my hair and she gave me the style that I was looking for. She didnt try to sell me products and yet gave me useful tips and suggestions and to how to make my hair better. Will definitely go there again! =)
ooo yeah and liked the funky interior!
oh god yes – All I can say is... My Pomp. brings all the girls to the yard hehe but seriously good people. The pompadour specialist was awesome! Not only did she do a great job (her name is Sarah) she happily hooked me up with a beer and made sure that I was happy with my service before leaving.... Service so damn good I may go back sooner then later
Great service, and quality haircuts – I love this place! I've tried soo many haircutting places and either they use too many products in your hair or the cut is just not that great. I love Shannon at this salon. She's real, nice, and will tell you if something is going to look good on you or not.
They are really friendly and I always have a great time there. Lastly their prices are affordable. I'm a huge fan.
Austin's cutting-edge barbershop brings its funky, laid-back talent to Burnet Road and gives it a retro roller-rink spin. – In Short
The hokey pokey is the only thing missing at this hair salon Xanadu, which takes its cue from early 80s roller disco and video arcades. The large, overhead murals feature icons of the era, ranging from skaters and break-dancers to "Spaced Invaders" and "Tron." Rock and alternative music sets the mood as stylists give cuts, colors and occasional Mohawks to cool professionals, rockers and kids. "No appointments" means you can play classic video games while you wait.
