Cheers for the owner!! – I misplaced my leather jacket when I was at Zayda Buddy's about a month ago. The staff and especially the owner, Joel, went waaaaay ouf their way to help me take care of the problem. Grandpa Zayda would be proud of Joel. A classy place!
just a great place with awesome food – Seriously, I have enjoyed this place so much every time I've been there! It's clean and fun and casual and the food is INSANELY awesome. The veggie sandwich is my new favorite! Super gooey cheese and yummy grilled vegetables...and the last time we took a friend there (who also loved the place and the food) we all shared the "twinkle misu" ... Holy dessert nirvana. I had no idea you could do that with a twinkle. This place is fantastic, and I recommend it to everyone.
Great concept – Apparently this is a good place to watch a game, but if you are not expecting this it can be quite loud and crowded. Menu items and beer choices seem to be a little unusual which inspired me to seek this out. Whoever heard of a Midwestern themed restaurant? It is a great idea. Unfortunately they seem to have had some problem with thier beer distrubtion and most of the unusual beers I wanted to try were unavailable. Food was above average, I absolutely love my tapenade, hummus, veggie sandwhich (Joia Z’s Veggie Sandwich) and am not sure how I never knew these two things were meant to be together. They also have an interesting beer mustard. I hear the tatoer tot hot dish is delicious as well. And I did enjoy reading about fishing while I ate.
Midwestern delights! – Zayda Buddy’s is a great place to indulge your comfort food fantasies. If you dream of cheesy, buttery carbs served up hot with a side of dipping sauce, or dare I say tater tots, you must try Zayda’s.
My favorites: the mac-n-cheese topped with mama lil’s peppers, the velveeta grilled-cheese sandwich, and the chicken tenders. Did I mention they do pizza?
Round out your meal with an ice cold beer and you won’t want to leave the establishment. Wooden booths and flat screen televisions will keep you there for hours. Enjoy!
Other than the pizza, not worth the price – Zayda Buddy's makes pretty good Minnesota style pizza but I would recommend avoiding the sandwiches. Last night I had a tuna melt there, it was 1 piece of bread with tuna and cheese on top, a tomato, and a pickle on the side. I also had to pay 2$ extra for potato salad rather than pringles or fries for my side. Now that would be fine but the cost for this was $11 ($8.99 for the basic tuna melt plus two for the potato salad).
This wasn't exactly a gourmet meal, I really wouldn't expect to pay more than $7 for half a tuna sandwich and a side. Comparatively you can get a grilled cheese and toato soup near by for only $4.
There are much better and cheaper options in Ballard if you want a sandwich.
Hey, I just wanted to say that I agreed with your review and wanted to let you know that we are now serving two open faced tuna sandwiches per plate and have improved the taste with 2 slices of cheese per sandwich. One on the bottom and one on the top of each sandwich.
This is consistent with our other sandwiches. Not sure if you've ever tried the other sandwiches or our burgers, but they are all huge! 1/2 pound burgers and very satisfying sandwiches .
Anyways, thanks for your review. We did something about it. Glad you like the pizza though. Hope you give us another try.
Small Pints – Hey, what's with the mini beers? I mean, C'Mon every bar in Seattle has at least the american pints and real pubs have the 20oz imperial. The mini 14oz beers here are just rediculous. At least have an option for someone who wants a real beer! Thanks.
Hey, I just wanted to respond to your posting because our pints are most definitely 16oz pints. Not sure why you think they are 14oz., but they most definitely are 16oz. Over half of them are licensed Leinenkugel's glasses.
Not trying to start a fight or argue with you, but I just thought that it was important to let you know that we do have real American pint glasses.
Felt like a kid again! – What a terrific place! Great location, yummy food, fabulous customer service, fun atmosphere...I couldn't resist eating like a kid (grilled cheese and tater tots), but had to have a MN beer for old time's sake. I highly recommend to everyone, regardless of your experiences (or lack thereof) with Midwest food and beer!
Great drinks – This place is a fun place to have a casual drink and meal. One of my friend's had the turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce, delightful! One had a chicken burger, delicious. And my other friend and I split a pizza. The crust was perfect and the toppings were great. I had roasted garlic on my side it was great while I was eating it and I eat a lot of garlic. But seriously you should probably avoid the roasted garlic if you have to go out the next day or two. I was sweating garlic for at least 24 hours, it was insane and I'm certain there was not a vampire in the greater seattle area after I ate that. But like I said, it was good and I guess its just the price I had to pay. Also the drinks are fantastic! I had an awesome grape sode cocktail and my friends had some other cocktails off the inventive cocktail list. This place has a fun atmosphere and great bar style food. :)
It is all in what you like – First things first, I grew up in the mid-west, so the pizza here is the style I grew up with. Having been consistently disappointed with the pizza this far west, I am always looking for new things. (I should probably mention that I lived in Chicago and like more than one pizza style.) Zayda's has been constantly improving since I first went in, and by no means have I exhausted the menu, though I have never had food I considered merely passable. Every restaurant has good and bad nights, and if you don't realize this you shouldn't dine out.
This is a place I enjoy taking people to eat, though by no means would I say everything is perfect,
Unique Yummy Pizzas – locally owned zayda buddy's brings Minnesota style pizza to the already eclectic neighborhood of ballard. fresh ingredients, sauce made daily, even the grenadine is made lovingly on site. during football season, you can find many relaxing in the bar drinking pints brought specially from the Midwest watching their favorite teams.
