Reviews for The Australian

The Australian is famous for being one of ESPN's best alumni bars and is currently home to fans from West Coast and the Midwest: Cal's Bears and Kansas State's Wildcats. No word on whether Oski will be showing up wearing royal purple.

Such a great spot! Excellent happy hour with $5 cocktails and food.

Food came out fast. Kangaroo loin was good but in fairness this was my first time trying this type of meat so I'm not sure if it was just "good" or over the top. The kangaroo salad consisted of mostly chickpea...very odd. All in all, a great location, great atmosphere and delicious food.

I took my daughter here once. She took me back again on Fathers Day. The calamari is great with a Virgin Mary. The place does need some TLC, but all-in-all it's a great find.

They have pretty decent happy hour prices and it's never too crowded. You can also reserve the upstairs if needed.

Footy, Coopers, and awesome bartenders! Love this place!

Recently discovered this bar, and definitely think it is one of the better happy hour choices for Midtown. Great, friendly service, wide selection of beers, spacious, and great happy hour specials.

Happy Hour deals have a solid selection of $4 draft beers and small eats. The sliders, mini meat pies, and nachos are all good. The calamari is decent too, and you can't go wrong with there wings.

If you are looking for a solid Aussie beer try the Aussie Blond on tap or any of the three Coopers Ales they have in bottle. My favorite is the pale ale, but the stout is a challenger for #1.

They sometimes have live music and the front floor to ceiling windows open to let in air on nice nights. The bar is long with plenty of seating and elbow room. There are a lot of tables in back, and as I previously said the service is fantastic...table or bar.

I bought my parents here during there visit from Australia to NYC. The Australian is awesome! I might be slightly biased as I am an Aussie myself living in NYC. But still, it was awesome. We got to meet the owner Matt as we knew one of his other family members from back in Sydney. He very kindly bought us a round of drinks.

Awesome place in midtown! Came on a Saturday morning with a bunch of friends to watch a rugby match and had a great time. Service was excellent (I forget our waitress's name but she was amazing). Food was very good. I had the kangaroo skewers and the sausage rolls. The kangaroo was very tasty!

This was such a fun bar to go to for happy hour on a Friday!!! They had some awesome appetizers that were half off, so a friend and I split a meat pie appetizer. It came perfect with two little meat pies that we didn't have to cut in half. For dinner, we each got a different meal, so that we could experience more of the menu. There were just too many things we wanted to try. We ended up getting the curry vegetable pie, and I forget what the other meal was called, but it was lamb with roasted potatoes and veggies, with a side of mint jelly. Both were pretty good. Another friend got the nachos, and it was ridiculously good. I think they put mango chutney in it, which gave it the unique, but awesome flavor that I've never had with other nachos that I've tried. Overall, I would come back here again.
