Very expensive with little portions! Service was slow and had to get up a couple of time to get service! Better places on J street!

I had lunch at the McCormick & Schmick's in Sacramento recently. I ordered a lunch salad with oil and vinegar dressing and their Jambalaya. First the salad. The salad was pretty conventional but the dressing was very thick and heavily spice - not a light dressing.

The Jambalaya was very disappointing. The sauce tasted as if it were just tomato sauce and chili powder. Onions, celery, green peppers, garlic, thyme, parsley, etc. were nonexistant. If they were used then a very small amount were minced. Most recipes call for vegetables in Jambalaya to be chopped, not diced and especially not minced. Also, most recipes and chefs call for the fish and sausage to be cut into 1/2" pieces, McC & Sck's must have also been run though a food grinder. Miniscule size pieces. Lastly, Jambalaya is famous as coming from Louisiana. If they are going to call it Seafood Jambalaya, then it needs to have some shrimp too.

High prices and and poor service – The cocktails were $12.75 and up, service was slow and unattentive, a frustrating dining experience. While some of the fish was fabulous( crab salad), some was mediocre (lobster ravioli) and some was amateurish (gaspacho with seafood). Not a good choice.

Amazing Happy Hour – You can't beat McCormick & Schmick's Happy Hour menu. Rarely can you find a quality restaurant offering a half-pound cheeseburger and fries for less than $3. The drink prices are average, but it's easy to go home with a full stomach and money still left in your walet. Only draw back... be there at 4pm if you want a seat for Happy Hour.
