I LOVE this place! – They are so friendly here! They are always really quick. Usually we barely have time to sit down before our dumplings show up. This place is tiny, but has a charming "hole-in-the wall" quality. I'm new to Dallas, and this has become my go-to spot when showing visitors around!
Japanese cafe dishes up hearty bento boxes and udon noodles. – Regulars from The Village apartments and business lunchers frequent this Greenville Avenue joint for quick and plentiful Japanese dishes. Customers line up for simple counter service and red and black bento boxes full with crunchy shrimp tempura, California rolls, rice and lightly battered fried pork cutlets with tonkatus sauce. Modern black and white lamps hang above guests at a short sushi bar and illuminate the surrounding lime green walls. Others sit at red and white pub tables to enjoy their bento boxes or udon noodles piled in oversized stark white bowls. The cashier occasionally emerges to ensure quality and to suggest a Japanese beer.
Great, unique place for real Japanese food. – Tampopo has a great selection of a variety of Japanese food. They have a range of bentos, a few curry dishes, a good range or sushi and excellent tempura. They also have some unique dishes that I have not seen at other more typical Japanese food places. It is small on the inside but draws a good sized lunch crowd. The food always comes fresh, hot and yummy. If you are new to Japanese food I would recommend the #1 bento: chicken teriyaki with a California roll, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and a sliver of orange or melon. You can also go more traditional with fresh brewed green tea or red bean or green tea ice cream. They do serve a few varieties of Japanese beer and sake. The atmosphere is quaint, well designed and good for a lunch with a friend, or a dinner date with the significant other. They do take out as well, and offer free wifi. This is one of my favorite places to eat on Greenville. It is a little more expensive, but it makes up for it in the amount of food you get. Look for the green awning that says Tampopo.
