Great every time all the time! – The food is delicious, unique and can't be beat. the customer service is great - attentive and very friendly. Never had a bad dish!
Go with a group! Eat family style! – Joanne & Cheri & the whole darn team are great, awesome people. These are people who love what they do, care about their customers & have fun. It's much appreciated!!
Anyway, I've been to Myers + Chang on multiple occasions. I've only had a wait once. That was this past Saturday/V-Day/Chinese New Year slamfest. We had a reservation, our table was dissecting their dessert and/or performing Gatz in its 7-hour entirety... who knows? Anyway, we had about a 30-40 minute wait. Cheri comped my party drinks. Totally nice of her, I felt it was a good way to handle the situation. A Changarita makes everything better, no?
I love the funky atmosphere. I love that stuff you order comes out as it's ready so it's piping hot and you don't feel like a complete fatty because you ordered the entire menu and it is currently on your table. That would also cause a space issue.
Tip: go with a group. Eat family style. More options, less cost. I thought going with 6 people was the perfect number. We had to be rolled out for about $33/person.
My personal faves:
- Garlicky spicy wings: OMG Winged goodness... so crispy and messy and yum
- Nasi Goreng - Indonesian fried rice that's spicy with a poached egg on top that you mix in and it becomes ooey gooey tastiness
- The homemade sodas in fun flavors like lychee-vanilla & aloe-yuzu. I like cherry-ginger best.
- Short rib tacos. MINE. I want all 3 for myself. Get your own.
- Mama Chang's pork dumplings. Juuust keep em coming and no one will get hurt.
Great place for group dining – I've been to Myers + Chang a few times now and have enjoyed it each time. Most recently, I went on a double date and Myers + Chang provided the perfect environment for us to laugh, taste food, talk and laugh some more. It is so laid-back and I'm reminded of how this is such a great place for a group dining experience or even for a date because you can share lots of different plates in such a relaxed atmosphere. Some of my favorite dishes include the Asian pickles, braised pork belly buns, and braised short rib tacos.
Casual, fun and great food – Everything that we tried on the menu was loved. The dumplings, rice,tiger tears, mussels were all great. But the two things that everyone agreed were amazing were the Fried Chicken and the tea smoked ribs. The service was eccelent, we were provided great suggestions and the food just kept coming at an even pace. When the menu says spicy, they really mean it as well! Everything was excellent, I will be going back many times.
Modern Chinese fare goes trendy in the South End. – In Short
The diner-like atmosphere of Christopher Myers and Joanne Chang's latest endeavor has a hip but unpretentious vibe that permeates the entire production. Chinese favorites, with Thai and Vietnamese specialties thrown in for good measure, are served from the open kitchen in "tasting" portions to the beats of the latest indie hits. Menu highlights include braised pork belly buns, "tiger's tears" (grilled skirt steak with basil, lime, and khao koor), and dan dan noodle salad.
I love it.... – I have been several times and love the style of the place and am hooked on the Dan-dan noodles!! We go with a large group and it is fun to order a bunch of things and get to try everything. Food comes to the table at different times(when ready) and that is fine with me. Love the music!!
Fun Space, Concept and Good Food – I have been to M+C a 1/2 dozen times now and have always had a good experience from the service, to the cocktails and the food. We are not talking a typical Boston Chinatown food experience but rather South End does Chinatown in a very kitschy, clever and innovative way. Ribs are great, so is the fried chicken, dan dan noodles and green papaya slaw. Would also recommend the tiger prawns. I think this is a great neighborhood spot - just wish the bus stop was about 100 feet down the street so that they could have some outside tables in the summer. Go, enjoy and have fun.
Pretty good food, ok service – With our 1-year-old, we're always looking for trendy restaurants that don't mind young kids. After hearing the hype, we visited for dinner on a Sunday. The hostess and waitress were very pleasant and we were seated immediately (the place was filled but no lines). Overall, my husband was disappointed with the taste and portions. The shiitake and greens dumplings were far too salty and his pork sausage skewers dish (should have been listed under the "snacks" section) consisted of exactly two 2-inch cubes of meat ("good but not memorable") placed on a bed of plain greens and a side sauce that was too potent to use. My udon + tofu dish was fine albeit a bit salty and greasy and the charred tofu tasted odd because tofu is best when soaked in a delicious sauce; this simply tasted plain/blah with a burnt exterior. A waitperson delivered our meals (not our main waitress) in a strange order: my udon dish first, then the snack, then the pork skewers 15-20 minutes later, so my udon dish was cold when finally eating it. He also delivered my udon dish twice. Confusion understandable if it were two different waitstaff, but he had delivered the first dish just minutes before. Best things are that the place seems family friendly as it's informal with a fairly loud atmosphere so no one would notice a temper tantrum; and the vegetarian options, although I wouldn't classify that food as "healthful" since it was still salty and greasy.
Oh So Very Trendy – "Perhaps it was because I had heard so much, but this was a major league disappointment. The range of flavors in the food was limited and it was what you would expect from a suburban Chinese restaurant in the all too trendy South End, If you're in the mood for Chinese food go to a real Chiinese restaurant, not here."
Awesome addition to the South End – Just got back from my third dinner at Myers and Chang since they opened several months back and I loved it. My friend and I started off with the vegetarian dumplings and the grilled whole prawns and then we shared the Myers and chang fried chicken, the kale, the beef and broccoli chow fun. It was way too much food but it was all so good and i felt full but not overly stuffed (plus i have lunch now for tomorrow!). All of my meals here have been really fresh and full of vegetables and it's clear that they are using top ingredients. I didn't love the kale, that was the only bad note this time around. But I've had lots of their other "wok vegetables" and they've all been really great.
The service is terrific too! My waiter seemed to recognize me and was super friendly and helpful and we felt really welcomed.
The music is awesome - the atmosphere is cool and hip without being too trendy. I love this addition to the hood. It's priced well, it's fresh food, it's comfortable and I plan on coming back a lot.
