New management, not so good – I went to this place sometime last year and it was amazing. I recommended it to a coworker and he had a positive experience too.
I went in March and it was like night and day. Like other viewers have said, there was one Asian woman working there. She was nice enough, but she kept answering the phone during my massage. At one point, she just brought the cordless phone into the massage room.
She could barely understand English, which made communicating about areas to focus on or sensitive areas difficult.
She came really close to my inside thighs. It was uncomfortable.
And like someone else said, she didn't know how to work the credit card machine. It took like three tries before she got my Am Ex card to work.
I visited sometime in March 2009, so maybe things have changed. I just know that I won't be back. Pity, because I really enjoyed the first time I went.
New Management = Terrible Place – Apparently Knead underwent new management. The old manager (blonde girl) was incredible - organized, friendly, prompt, courteous. Now, that one asian woman works there and is a complete idiot. I went in with one other person and it took her 5 minutes just to assign us to a specific room. The asian lady stopped the massage at least three times to answer her cell phone. Also, she wouldn't shut her mouth during the massage - asking if I had ever been massaged by "an asian lady" before...yes those were her exact words. I came in with back pains, which wasn't alleviated. Since the new management, this place is absolutely TERRIBLE. I feel awful for the other therapists that DO speak English because they are wonderful - Rachel, Robert, Stephanie, etc. Those therapists are amazing - however, I won't return. I'm sorry! :(
Very odd place to get a massage – I entered the place and only ONE Asian woman was working. So, my massage was interrupted 3 times any time someone would walk into the the place or cal. I'm addition, there was no formal introduction nor was I asked if I had any injuries, sensitive areas, etc. The woman also didn't speak much English and got very close to the very very inside of my thighs. She also didn't know how to work the credit car machine- I had to figure it out on my own. In a nutshell- don't go here& if you do-don't expect much!
I Love Knead! – I too was surprised when I read the reviews. The staff is really friendly, they run on time everytime I've been there (not like the Massage Place on Ocean Park, who made me once wait twenty minutes without an explanation for my massage) and whoever is working at the counter is always willing to put quarters in my meter and thoroughly explained the three parking options. I don't know what people expect from a place that offers $48 massages, but its always clean, nice and great massages. Come on people, you know that this is not some sort of spa at the Peninsula, but you will get just as great of a massage. I really have come to conclusion that people just like to complain. I say don't go back, but why be a cry baby about it, and if you didn't love your therapist there are so many others to choose from. I've had three different people, Meghan, Robert and Christie and they're all fantastic, completely different but really great.
great place! – I had to write because I saw such nasty things written. My boyfriend and I go there alot. The girls are super sweet. The place is sooooo clean....I have only seen the bathroom spotless. The girls do such great massages. As long as you communicate with them, they will focus on whatever area needs the most work....they are just fantastic! As for tipping..it's a must people. Don't go get a massage( or anywhere where you need to tip) and not tip..just not o.k.
The stuff was very rude, parking was a nightmare and the bathrooms were dirty. This place should be closed down!! Don?t waste your time or money; there are a ton of better places thru out LA!!
Don?t Go, A Nightmare
This place was a nightmare. First finding it and finding parking are a big pain. Well because I had parking issues and this was my first time there I was a few minutes late. When I went in they said nothing about me being late and started the massage. The massage itself was not that great, I mean I explained I need a light massage and she was very heavy handed, even to the point I had to tell her to stop. Well once the massage was done the girl stated she had to stop early because she had an appointment, which I understand. So I looked up and it had only been one hour even though I booked an hour and a half, but I understood she had an appointment. So when I walked out to pay they charge me for the full hour and a half and when I explained I didn?t think that was right she stated it was my fault because I was late by 10 mins. Then as I was putting on my shoes the girl keep asking if I wanted to give her the tip, which I found very rude because if I decide if she deserves a tip or not is my business. Well she kept asking and then finally I looked at her and said what do you mean? She told me I MUST leave a tip or I was to never return; I found this so rude I just walked out. Don?t waste your money on crappy service; bad parking and a dirty salon, there are a ton of other places in LA.
Great customer service. But be sure to read about the therapist ! – I have tried many massage places, lots of massage places in this price range in southern California are either operated by Chinese or Korean with little or no English. The first thing I liked about Knead is that the place is very professional, and every one speaks English. Parking was a breeze, Starbucks parking will cost you $6.00, but don?t park there. Park at the public parking 2 hours free. I went on Saturday (May 3rd around 1 PM), the lady on phone even offered to put money in the meter if I leave her quarters while I am in the massage session (2 thumbs up for this type of customer service).
My massage therapists name was Rachel. Few things about her that I though was NOT professional. During massage session at least 3 times she started to massage with one hand only, I was face down but I knew some thing is not right, then I noticed that she is using her cell phone to reply text messages. When you are in session with a customer, the cell phone should be off limits unless it is an emergency. She also had a slightly runny nose, I can hear clearly that she was getting runny nose. Also at start of the massage she did not rub her hands to make them warm, she just started with COLD hands. I may be very picky when it comes to massage, but these things matter a lot to me. One thing I really liked about her that she knew all the techniques of massages, and do give VERY GOOD massage. For that I will give her 4 stars (* * * *), but for her professional behavior I will give her only 1 star (*). I think overall the place is very good, with great customer service and above all the price $48.00 for 1 hour is really a bargain. Thanks Ramesh
Great Massage! Great Deal! – This is the best massage deal in LA. Really nice, well trained therapists. And it's perfect for spa parties because you can rent the whole place out and everyone in your group can get $40 massages. Can't do that at Burke Williams.
