Classic Tavern (not a tacky substitute) – I am a 33 year old guy. I'm hard working and successful. My days are stressful and I enjoy The Chairs for an after work drink. The last thing I want is a blaring juke box, or florescent lights shining in my face(which thankfully that would never have). The atomsphere is I don't know how to say but....very comfortable. You almost feel like your home in a way. The eclectic clientele always has you on your toes. Which I find fascinating. The topic of the day changes from current events to trivia of the day. Quite humurous at times. I just want to say I LOVE the Five Chairs. Alot of establishments come and go but The Five Chairs is always the one place you can count on for enjoyment. Ladies and Gentlemen that is a fact.
One of the "3 Foodies Must Have in The Berkshires" – My husband & I grew up in the Berkshires. Every year we go home for all the holidays. We were there for the Thanksgiving holiday.Perfect always. Our family which includes three children (foodies themselves) MUST go to the "3 Musts". Teo's for the baby hot dogs-YUM. East Side Cafe for their thin crusted pizza-DELICIOUS. Last but not least The Five Chairs for their overstuffed sandwiches-FABULOUS. We always get the Pastrami on rye, Corned Beef Rueben, Roast Beef with the works, Italian Grinder and for Little Joe the Mexican Doxie.(his all time favorite) which is a huge hot dog wrapped in salami covered with chili. Then we always get the exact same "to go". Those sandwiches go home with us to be eaten again that night. Our kids call it the Five Chairs Double Day. My husband and I call it Heaven. They are the best deli sandwiches ever! Trust me!!!
As Toby Keith sings-" I LOVE THIS BAR" !!! – My wife and I frequents "The Chairs" for many, many years. The owners, staff and local patrons are always fun and friendly. (Many we have come to consider as good friends.) We find the casual atomsphere inviting. The service and food quality is ALWAYS excellant. Everyone should know that there is no better place to go to get a truly mouth-watering overstuffed sandwich like The Five Chairs. As we say "5 Cheers for the 5 Chairs!" We'll see you there!
What a great place to sit and relax!! – We are from NY, and I LOVE going to The Five Chairs. It's nice and quiet and also fun. I love the bartender. She was so fun. She sang and dance and was very witty. The owners were there and they even bought me and my husband a drink as we sat at the bar and had a lovely conversation with them. They were very pleasant to talk with. I got the chef salad which was biggest salad that I have ever seen. My husband got their famous Corned Beef Reuben. Absolutely amazing!! I will come back again.
It was an exciting discovery when I went to 5 Chairs! – My cousin first brought me to there when we were 18. I found the atmosphere to be delightfully relaxing at the very moment I entered.
5 Chairs is a low-key and unpretentious gathering place where one can thoroughly enjoy delicious overstuffed sandwiches and a drink or two. The bar and tables are in one large room lending to its charm. It is always super clean and has a shiny wooden floor.
On my first visit I clearly remember enjoying two White Russians and a HUGE stuffed Rueben sandwich, half of which I brought home for another meal.
5 Chairs is an unique place because of its 'old' decor and very relaxing atmosphere.
I still go there frequently and am always proud to introduce it to people who haven't been there before.
And yes...their prices are very modest! You won't be disappointed...and that's a profound understatement!!!
Repeat Offender – We are frequent roadtrippers and if we are anywhere near the beautiful Berkshires we plan on at least one meal at the Chairs. The beer is cold, the service quick and friendly, and the hot pastrami sandwich always makes the trip worthwhile. There are not many pubs left and we like to eat with the locals where ever we visit. They usually know where to get the best food for the best price! And since one of those locals was Neutron Jack Welch, if it is good enough for him it is good enough for me.
I Love this place since 1981!!! – Have been going there since 1981 & love it. The roast beef is delicious as are the reubens. Yes locals do drink at the bar (per the other review). Ya think? As far as callling nurses, lawyers, "men in blue" town drunks I totally disagree. As far as the owner being vulgar I would love to know what you did at that establishment? Hmm? After being in business since the 70's w/ the original owner that is telling me they are doing something right!!!
Wow, nothing can be worse can it? – This by far is one of the Worst establishments I've been to in years, maybe my life. The service was horrible, when we walked in the staff look upset with having to serve and do work. The food was terrible, at least the staff admitted it and refunded. I felt like I was in a deleted scene from the movie "deliverance". It is a local townie drunk bar, and as another review indicated, the owner is disgusting and vulgar. I will never go near that place again! Also, it doesn't even deserve one star, but I cannot submit review without clicking a star rating.
In Contradiction I LOVE this place – I spent a lot of time in this establishment and ate a LOT of sandwiches. (and beverages). I have recommended it to many people who have always been satisfied. That said: I have since moved away from the Pitts and only get to "The Chairs" occasionally/ I will admit that on 2 previous visits (within 10 years of at least 5 visits) It was not up to par. On one occasion it was "on the house" the manager was very friendly.
We just missed an opportunity this past weekend to stop in. and now really wish I could give a current evaluation.
I will always go back. This is truly one of the best overstuffed sandwiches I have ever had.
Awful NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!! – I ate there once - food is awful....cold and definitely NOT fresh!!!
This is really a bar for local alcoholics - I learned this after living here for a year. However, I have been a weekly patron of the car wash that they own next door - BUT NO MORE!!!!!!
The equipment barely works, but was the closest to my house - the owner of this hell hole came to my home as I had thrown trash out at the car wash from our 1 month camping trip - I did use the car wash that day and tried to use the vaccuum - vaccuum didn't work....wash worked though.
So the owner came to my home as there was obviously a magazine or envelope in the trash that had my address on it..threatening hillbilly guy..told me to go pick up the trash or he was going to call the cops....yelling and babbling.
OK so he's a psycho....I picked it up only because I realized he was nuts and I really didn't know what might be in the bags (i.e., personal info). He was at the car wash when we arrived and pulled up yelling that we needed to take more trash because he has to pay for it to be picked up. I realize this is not for dumping your house trash, but for heavens sakes - as this guy sat in his macho truck in MY driveway - this guy wouldn't even shut up his bloated red face for 2 seconds for me to explain that I am a patron and had cleared our camper and car and PAID to use his barely working filthy car wash facility.
This guy needs help....I will never go there again and will tell anyone and everyone to not go to his bar or his car wash.
CREEPY!!! Stay away!!!!
By the way...I want my dollar back from the vaccuum that didn't work!!!!!!
