Good Experience – I had a good experience with this New Orleans moving company. My move was big and complicated but this company took care of it with ease. My belongings arrived on time and in perfect condition. The price was affordable and the customer service good. I will use them again.
Hassle Free Move – Very good moving company. I moved my Office and these guys were very professional. They kept me updated on the status of my move and everything went perfectly. I will be using these guys again
WORST MOVING COMPANY – I had men from this company help me move to my new apartment in New Orleans. A lot of my things were stolen. My special personal belongings and my jewelry box were all stolen. even though i saw them with the box at the end. the box they were all hidden in was all opened up and they still won't confess. they charge by the hour and they purpously took 6 1/2 hours to move less then 3 miles away. im not the only one who had a bad experience with these people i saw others online who had similar problems. my advise: I HIGHLY ADVISE YOU TO CONTACT SOMEONE ELSE FOR HELP MOVING.
Best Move Ever!!! – The headline says it all!!! This is the best moving company that I have ever used! Even down to the ladies that answer the phones! The guys that moved me were very polite and were very hard workers... I had to tell them to take a break! (It was over 90 degrees that day!)
I don't understand some of these reviews? I guess everyone has bad days? Or maybe some people can not be satisified? I would highly recommend Starving Student Movers to anyone for your move!!!
Stress free Move – After reading these other reviews I was surprised.I researched many moving companies in the area and found good and bad reviews on all of them. After a recomendation from a friend a chose Starving student movers for my move.It was the most stress free move ive ever experienced. They were prompt, courteous, and profeesional. There is no such thing as a perfect moving co.and wasnt expecting this one to be.I was surprised on how smooth the move went and will use and recommend them in the future.
STAY AWAY – Even though I had boxed up EVERYTHING in my teeny tiny 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house, it took them 7.5 hours to move me 5 miles away. After speaking with a coworker who used a different company to move her 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, wherein nothing had been packed for a grand total of 4 hours move time, I was livid.
I moved on 3/9 and called today, 3/15, to make a complaint about the time. I supposed to get a call back, but have little faith that I will get one after reading the other reviews. I ended up paying about twice what I'd planned to spend and, needless to say, no one got tipped.
A MATTER OF PRINCIPAL – My nightmare with Starving Students Moving Company started in August 2010. In July I relocated from Slidell to New Orleans. I was pleased with my 3 man crew led by Houston. They were efficient and congenial. They did a great job loading up and the travel across the twin spans followed. It was pretty uneventful until my stainless steel refrigerator door got dented. I also pointed out numerous scratches on the side of the refrigerator as well. I was told by Houston that we would write it on the invoice so a claim could be filed.
Throughout the course of the day I provided sandwiches, snacks, and soft drinks for the crew (they did not ask and it was my pleasure to do since they were working so hard). When I went to sign the invoive, I hand wrote in the damage and dated it with my initials. I also asked each of the crew members for their address so I could send them a cash tip as I did not want to put it on the credit card that I was using to pay for the move.
I waited about 3 weeks to call about the damage. I spent 4 weeks explaining to Tom and Mary my issue and also asked for a copy of my invoice (which I misplaced after holding on to it for so many weeks) so that I could send the boys their tip. I was given the runaround by so many people, it was ridiculous. I kept being told that Brian would handle it but he is obviously living in some third world country where he does not receive messages because he never returns calls. He is apparently busier than most doctors and world leaders and completely apathetic with regards to acceptable customer relations.
Finally, after 4 weeks, Brian scheduled an appointment to come to my house to see the damage. I guess I should not have been surprised when he never showed up and didn't bother to call. Hence began several more weeks of calls (I even spoke to Houston once and told him that he could have had a nice tip coming his way but that his boss won't return calls......I hoped he would be frustrated knowing that and would ask the boss to handle the situation....didn't help) and being told that they do not keep invoices so I would not b able to get a copy from them and I should just keeping looking and find the original one. When I questioned their disposal of records for tax and accounting purposes, I was told that they just don't retain those copies because it is too much paper to deal with. After a few days, Brian called me and asked why I had not filled out a claim form. I told him no one ever mentioned a claim form. So finally, after 2.5 months of dealing with this, I received the claim form. I filled it out and faxed the return copy on October 15, 2010. I also mailed a copy as well.
On November 7, 2010, I received a release form to settle the damage for $125. By this time I was so tired of dealing with them that I signed the form and faxed it on November 8, 2010. On December 8, I called and spoke to Tom and was told that my check was mailed on the previous Friday (December 3). By December 10, I still had not received the check and started leaving 3 and 4 messages per day and was told Brian was out of the office but the messages were left on his desk. It is now January 5 and I still have no check and no phone call. I am faxing and mailing the release form again. I doubt I will ever see a penny of the money. Needless to say, I have not sent a tip to the moving crew. It is a shame that they did the work and did it pretty well but they work for a selfish and non-communicative con man who basically has not one concern for proper customer relations.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! Brian, the owner, is a sorry excuse for a businessman. My one hope is that his shoddy business practices will catch up with him and the name "Starving Students" will prove prophetic as his poor approach to business catches up with him and he realizes a well-deserved loss of income.
Very Professional – These guys moved me from New Orleans to Tucson and everything went flawless. Professional movers and great customer service. They gave me regular updates on the status of my move and were very friendly. I strongly recommend them!
Buyer Beware – After over six attempts to get satisfaction with this company, I now will use the only tool I have left - the pen, or in this case, the keyboard.
These people moved me in July. I chose them over Atmosphere Movers solely because of a co-workers recommendation. I even specifically requested the same three man crew that he had used, well in advance of my move date, and told them that they needed a large truck and tools to disassemble some furniture. I also told them that I lived on the third floor and that there would be stairs involved. But then, my friend had the same configuration when they moved him.
They showed up late with a two man crew who took one look at the stairs and disappeared, saying they had to go to the convenience store to get some soft drinks. An hour later they had still not returned, so I called the company and they informed me that those guys would not be returning and that they were sending a three man crew (what I had originally requested) and I reminded them that they needed tools.
They finally showed up and, you guessed it, no tools. What blew my mind is that it took them 14 hours to move my furnishings. I had already moved most of the boxes. I was only moving 15 minutes down the road from my uptown location, yet it took them almost two hours to show up. Apparently they stopped to have dinner and didn't see fit to let me know.
They unloaded my stuff, while banging it and the doorframes of my new place all too hell, didn't re-assemble the furniture they had taken apart, and, in fact, had left all the hardware for the furniture over at the old place.
They charged me $400 more than the quote I had gotten from Atmosphere Movers. SS Movers charges by the hour and Atmosphere does not. (I had a friend who also used Atmosphere who was very pleased with their service.) Needless to say the $20 per man tip that I had in my pocket stayed there.
I have now called the company over a half a dozen times about the damage to my home and belongings and I can get no one to return my call. The person that supposedly handles their claims is (conveniently) never available.
Save yourself the headache, the money, and the dissatisfaction. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! They don't even begin to understand the word professional.
Did a great job – I called Starving Student Movers to move me and I couldn't have been more pleased. Everyone was nice and professional from the office people to the workers that moved me I would highly recommend this company. thank You Frankie R.
