Owner and waiter very disrespectful – I went to Maya del Sol for their Cinco de Maya celebration. A friend and I got there early (at 4pm) so that the two of us and three other friends could have a good spot on the patio for dinner. At about 445pm, the waiter and the owner came by separately to ask us to move to the bar, even though we were buying drinks and there were plenty of other tables open. We told them that the other three people were on their way and that we were waiting for them to order food. At about 5pm, two more people in our group showed up. The waiter blatantly ignored them and we had to stop him so that our friends could get drinks. Then, we were bothered about the fifth person not being there yet. Though the patio tables were now full, there was still no one waiting in line to sit outside. At this point, we politely expressed to our waiter that we were tired of being asked to sit at the bar to wait for our friend who was en route. He went and got the owner to talk to us again. We told him (again in a low tone of voice, not excited or yelling), that it was very rude to continually ask paying customers to move from their table. The owner told us that we could not sit there all night (though it was not even 530pm yet), that he had lots of big parties coming in and that by sitting there for so long, his waiter wasn't making enough money. We then told him that we were not moving to the bar (the whole point of getting there early was to get a good patio table) and were going to order food only when our fifth friend arrived. He walked away. Then the waiter came back, nonchalantly threw a check into the middle of our table, said, "here's your check," and walked away. We told him and the owner that we were not yet finished. The owner yelled that we had to leave. We asked why, but he would not answer specifically and then yelled that we were disrespecting him and his restaurant. We again said that even though they were being very rude, we would still like to get dinner. The owner kept interrupting us then said that he just wanted us to leave and didn't want us to pay but just to get out as soon as possible. He turned and walked away and yelled for the bussers to bus our table. They did - they took our chips, water, everything - while we were still sitting down.
Basically, we weren't making him enough money per hour and he wanted us to leave. He does not care about his customers, just money. I have never been treated so rudely by anyone in my entire life, much less by the owner of a restaurant of which I was a regular patron. Needless to say, I will NEVER be returning to this establishment so long as it is under its current ownership. I have asked everyone I know in the Chicago area to avoid this restaurant and I urge you to do the same.
Average Restaurant – I've driven by this restaurant many times, and finally decided to try it out. I had the tuna tacos and my friend had chicken tacos. There was nothing exceptional about the food. It was OK, but not great. Their tortilla chips are very hard and stale. They are also pretty pricey for the portions. And, the food is not very fresh tasting. It tastes like something you could get a chain restaurant, but is a lot more expensive. Their patio is very cozy, though, so if you do end up going here, try to go on a nice day and sit outside.
Nice ambiance, good food – The food at this Mexican restaurant is very good, service is prompt, and prices are about what you'd expect (not too awful, not a real bargain). They definitely prefer customers who order a lot of drinks and appetizers - the server seemed surprised that we didn't want alcohol... But I would definitely recommend the restaurant!
Great Patio, Delicious Unique Food – I have been to Maya a few times, and they have definitely worked out the kinks, The Food is so good and flavorful. The Sangria is some of the best Sangria I have ever tasted and the Patio is just beautiful. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Oak Park and we look forward to our next visit.
The first worst restaurant ever had been to. – First and foremost the food was so blend. Then manger tried to bribe us with liquor on the house if we where to return!! Mind you after this incident my friend started nausea that I had to pull over to the side? don?t get me wrong atmosphere was nice; however the food is absolutely terrible.
Ex-Frontera Grill chef sets up shop in Oak Park with sophisticated, but approachable, results. – In Short
Central and South American art, exposed brick and warm, sunny colors wash walls of this Oak Park eatery from the owners of Pizza Capri. In the kitchen, Mexico-born, Rick Bayless-trained Ruben Beltran turns out new Latin cuisine like oak-grilled king salmon with creamy poblano-asparagus sauce and slow-roasted pork in an achiote marinade with pickled red onions, black bean gratin and habanero salsa. An active bar scene is fueled by specialty cocktails and margaritas.
