Excellent nigiri and specialty items by chef Chris Nemoto. Uni, hamachi and salmon are noteworthy. Green tea cheesecake is yummy too

YUmmy Yummy sushi – I have serve at many sushi places and have managed 3 sushi places. I would have to say that Zushi is well organized. The freshness in the sushi and sashimi was unbelievable tasty. I don?t know what other people are saying about it not being fresh. The rice grain and seaweed were grade AAA. The best of the best.. I have only worked at 2 restaurants with the same freshness & quality?.and oyeah I know the two sushi Chef?s there working there. they are excellent Chef and not just regular cooks. They are both head chef?s at places I used to manage. the specialty roll was unbelievable good. The waitress was cute and she gave us excellent service and suggestion on the specialty roll. I went there with my girlfriend this week for one of the most, if not the most, amazing dining experiences. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

Two Thumbs Up – I love sushi and trying new restaurants, so when we recently moved into the neighborhood thought it would be nice to try something local and support the area. I'm glad we did. The food is excellent, the service is superb and the atmosphere very surprising, from the outside it's difficult to imagine such a nice, hip look inside, nice bar and view of Memorial Drive. We have been there two times in the last two weeks, and I think it's going to be a weekly visit for us. Last week the chef came out and visited with a few of the guests and offered menu recommendations, this was after our waiter gave us detail by detail descriptions of the different sushi options and rolls, specially created and prepared by the chef. I give it a thumbs up.

Zoo-shi? – My boyfriend and I went to Zushi, keeping in mind that it was a decked out, fancy, busy, place from what we saw on 002 magazine. Sad to say when we got there, it was empty and the hostess asked us if we were going anywhere nice since we were dressed up and in mind we were thinking yeah we thought we were...unfortunately pictures may be decieving. So we made up some lame excuse and ran out of there as fast as we could!

best sushi in town!!! – i've been to plenty of japanese restaurants in houston, and zushi is by far the best!!! the ingredients are fresh, the service is wonderful, and the specialty rolls are very flavorful and unique. i highly recommend puff the magic dragon roll and the jack william roll, but everything is fantastic. the atmosphere and decor is very modern and the music is great. it seems a bit on the upscale side, but you will not feel under dressed in jeans and a t-shirt....the staff is very friendly and mellow. we eat there about once a week, and we refuse to get sushi anywhere else. there is no comparison!!

stinky sushi...dont even think about it.... – The previous 3 reviewers must have ownership interest and must be trying to promote this establishment. I NEVER write reviews but after my experience at Zushi I could not resist. I am sooo passionate about sushi, although my mama told me if I didn?t have anything nice to say?don?t say anything at all, it?s so hard to bite my tongue and say Zushi is the absolute WORST! The nice friendly staff doesn?t even make up for the foul taste of the food. The appearance of the salmon sashimi was questionable. After taking a whiff and realizing the grotesque fishy smell I should have stopped there?ick! The deadliest catch will indeed be the cause of your demise, the taste of something spoiled sent my stomach into an uproar! The safest item on the menu?edamame?but seriously it?s not rocket science to boil a bag of beans! Don?t even get me started on the restroom, situated right next to the kitchen, let?s just say fish market gone superbad!!!! If the food has sent you running to the restroom to toss your cookies, the stench of month old unrefrigerated fish in the restroom will seal the deal!! Someone please please cite this establishment for inconsumable Japanese fare and shut their doors for good! YUCK!!! I think I still have the putrid fish taste in my mouth?blech!

Hidden Gem – Drove past this place a few times and it's always looked slow, finally I decided to try it out and I was amazed with the food and interior design. The sushi is very creative, good quality in texture, freshness and taste. This place has the potential to take off into the trendy social hangout spot, so get in and try it out before the crowd moves in. Will be going back soon!

AMAZING! – I agree with the posting below; I am not sure why the first person that posted had a bad experience.

When I went for the first time I was very impressed with Zushi -- and every time I go now (I've been about 5-6 times) I fall more and more in love. The sashimi is deliciously fresh, and the sushi rolls are unique and amazing! The beef sashimi blew me away - very tender and flavorful. The presentation of their rolls and sashimi is beautiful. Overall, this restaurant is outstanding!!!!!!!!!!! Every chance I get I come here. I brought my boyfriend after I went for the first time and he loved it (and he is extremely picky about food-especially Japanese where level of freshness can be easily detected). The chefs and staff are very friendly and loyal. This is by far not only my favorite sushi restaurant, but probably one of my favorite restaurants in general in Houston!

Best sushi in town! – I'm not sure what the reviewer before me was talking about, but then again, I've never been for lunch. I've been 3 times since they opened for dinner and plan to go again tonight. Definately sit at the sushi bar. The chefs are very informative and talkative. They always recommend the freshest stuff and every piece of fish I've had there has been amazing - including the sea urchin. I'm a sashimi girl, so I'm very picky about my fish being fresh. I'm a big fan of Azuma and Rickshaw, but those places are always so packed and service is hard to come by. There's never a wait for a spot (a good thing for us patrons) and my drink never goes empty.

Not so good... – Granted we went on 12/31/07 @ 11:30 am. The place was deserted. Never been there before but felt the space was a bit dark and stern. The miso soup was good but I don't think you can screw that up...the fish was a different story. It looked better (and it looked bad enough) than it tasted. Not fresh and reminded me of "refrigerator smell." $22.00 for this was less than impressive. Don't waist your time or money trying this one out...

Trendy Memorial-area sushi spot belies its pretentious address and stylish decor with an accessible menu and attentive, friendly staff. – In Short
Proving that trendy dining can indeed be laid-back and have a neighborhood feel, this Japanese restaurant and sushi bar is a welcome addition to an area known more for its pricey menus and wooden servers. Still, those who want their restaurant to equal their outfit in panache will also enjoy an evening spent here. Sushi fans will embrace innovatively prepared rolls and entrees at prices that allow for a gluttonous sampling.
