Ummm, are the ROACHES part of the meal?!! – Last Friday, I ate dinner with 3 guests at Decarli.
If I could go back in time and delete that experience from my mind, I would.
The service was SLOW.
The food was UNINSPIRED.
And during our dinner, my guests and I spied 2 COCKROACHES crawling across the floor.
Never, never, never again.
Decarli, you've lost 4 customers forever!
Clean up your act.
Great food – There used to be a time when I felt that I had to drive all the way to Portland for fine dining. Decarli has completely changed that. I have now attended Decarli several times and it has become my go-to place when I want some outstanding food close to home. Great place!
Need Reservations..... – My husband and I have patroned this restaurant for Happy Hour once before, and we were pleasently surprised. We wanted to take our daughter out for a celebration dinner, and she made the reservations on the website (OpenTable) for a table @ 8:30PM on Friday night. We arrived on time, and were asked to WAIT. We waited, and waited. We made a decision that if we were not seated by 8:45PM we would leave. After 8:45PM had past, we were ready to leave, that's when the hostess offered us almonds. WHY MAKE A RESERVATION!!! We're only a table of 3!!! There were tables that could have been moved from the bar area to accommodate us, but to offer us up some almonds just as we were leaving! I think they need to rethink their OpenTable reservation requirements!!! Will we try again??? We'll have to wait and see, but for now it's just Happy Hour, since you don't need reservations for that!
Great find in the heart of the burbs – How did we miss this gem for so long? My husband and I have been to happy hour many times and everything we've tried has been great. Everything from their happy hour menu is a great value and delicious. Their wine selection is awesome. The ambiance is perfect for a night out with friends or date night. We're so happy to have found decarli's and look forward to return visits each time we go.
Surprised – New to Beaverton just moved from Seattle. I was tired of always driving out to portland to dine with friends. Heard about this spot from my neighbor. Convinced my girlfriends to come out to my side of town for dinner and drinks. We had a wonderful time! Food was great, service was awesome, and we definitely be back!
Excellent! – First time guests. Arrived for Happy Hour on Sunday night which is totally awesome as runs from 5 - 9, and get this - you actually get to choose the happy hour wine you would like from the menu, as long as its under $8! score! no cheap junk they are trying to get rid of. We tucked into amazing polenta fries and wonderful caesar salad. The barman is great. What an excellent discovery! I am already plotting my next visit!
Terrible Experience – Arrived on Wednesday at 5:30pm. Three tables occupied in the restaurant. Ordered wine and cocktails. Immediately after, ordered food. After one hour the server explained our food was taking longer than usual because the chicken was prepared from “scratch”. One hour and fifteen minutes later and nothing. Two salads and one appetizer served. Called the owner who said he would check what was happening. Fifteen more minutes passed. Finally the food arrived. Dry pork loin, cold ribs, fairly good chicken. Ordered coffee and desserts. Check for $234.00 including 18% gratuity. No apologies, no thank you.
A perfect evening – We've been to Decarli before and even written a review. But last night was perfection. Every dish was yummy (short ribs, chicken, pork chop, fish), the service personal and never made us feel rushed. The setting is just lovely with the wood and brick and sparkly lights. I love this place and love that it's in Beaverton.
Swanky and elegant restaurant in Beaverton? – I always drove by this little place on Watson and reminded myself and husband that we should go in sometime. It looked like a neat place and somewhat unique to downtown Beaverton. After all, it's surrounded by suburban sprawl and, well, it's in Beaverton. Nothing cool ever really is in Beaverton. Or so I thought.
Last night, after having a night out in downtown. Dropping by Ron Tom's, Le Pigeon, Doug Fir, Farm and Uptown Billiards, we found nothing that we knew would be worth the $75 we would spend on dinner. Then I thought of the little place near home and we sprinted back to Beaverton, at 10:45.
We walked in and immediately I was blown away by the space, the exposed brick walls and thirty foot high ceilings. You could actually see the line from the entrance (always a good sign because everything that's done in the kitchen can be seen) and the brick oven is out in front. The dining room is a diner's dream. Tons of space between tables, huge windows in the front and again, those ceilings.
We sat up at the bar, not knowing if they were about to close (it was Beaverton after all) and I was greeted by my old co- worker Paul DeCarli. He had been the head chef at Tuscany Grill when I worked there. He is the best chef that I have known in 18 years of the business.
The last time that I had spoken to him a few years ago, he was just opening Balvo on 23rd and looking at opening a restaurant out here. Well, he did it.
My husband had a glass of the chianti (among the 14 other types of wine available by the glass). We ordered the Truffled Almonds, Olives, Meatballs, Pizzata and Mussels.
Paul took me on a tour of the place and told me about all of the remodeling they had done. After working in those hipster places in the Pearl and Northwest, Paul knew what a good eatery should look like. He also knows his food. I knew that our meal was going to be incredible before we even had it.
Everything was beyond our expectations and was everything that we had been looking for all night. It was just 1/3 the price and not downtown. The bartender, Robert, was gracious and attentive. We had actually arrived at closing (which as a former server was sometimes just annoying). I insisted on paying our tab immediately so he could get his closing done and he acted as if he had all of the time in the world for us. We didn't leave until 12:30, way beyond their closing time. Not once did we feel like we were keeping anyone there.
So, in short, if you want an incredible meal like you would find in those hip areas of downtown but you don't want to deal with the attitude or the insane prices, DeCarli's is where you want to go. I know that we'll be going there for brunch on Sunday.
Finally, there's a great pearl in the middle of suburbia.
yummy – Had another great meal at Decarli's last night. Went at the spur of the moment, no waiting for a table although it was 8:00 pm and busy. I really like that waiter with the silver hair, he is excellent. Polenta fries of course along with mixed field greens. Hubby had a perfect Ceasar salad with Risotto as an entree. I had the Gnocchi with wild mushrooms, rich, but delicious! We have'nt had a bad meal yet, but would suggest adding olive oil and balsamic vinegar along with the bread instead just butter. Also, adding another meat option. This was the hubby's suggestion. All in all, great meal!
