The stout braised beef brisket sandwich is a deliciously messy adventure.

Great beer, great mussels, great cheese plate. – Not sure about the reviews below, they seem suspect. I visit the Belgian Cafe at least once a month with my lady, and its always great. Great beer selection...servers are polite and knowledgeable. Mussels are great...although I prefer the old style that was thicker...new ones are just like Monks...thin and long.Great cheese plate and they have the best hand dryer in town.

Great beer, bad food – I have been to the Belgian Cafe about 4 times, mostly because it is a block from home, beer is great, and I am a long-time fan of Monk's and keep hoping this place will improve to their standards. The food has been just okay in the past (Vegan Reuben was too greasy, but the frites were good) and portion sizes were consistently a lot smaller than Monks. Last night I ordered the stuffed tofu which had been quite tasty the last time I was there (April). It was basically inedible this time, incredibly salty, swimming in a pool of soy sauce. My friend ordered a burger, which almost made us laugh when we saw it. I think a White Castle burger might have been larger. Fortunately it came with a generous trio of micro-sized leaves of lettuce - that's it folks - they don't even bother giving you a side salad any more. And it was $8! Finally, I have to say that the frites were also lacking - not enough potato, too much grease and over cooked. So I have given up on this place; instead of improving they have gone downhill. Try St. Stephen's on Green instead - much better food and not bad beer either.

Horrible, AVOID! – How can can I put this more simply? Here goes: This place is horrible. The food is overpriced, (7.95 for a 4 oz hamburger) and the fries are only ok. The burger's bun was stale and the meat was bloody when I asked for it medium well. My lunch was like a snack, the fries and burger were so small yet somehow together cost 10 dolallars! I generally don't eat a lot but this is ridiculous. Additionally, the staff is rude and it is clear that they are pretentious and only want your money. Once you order, they role their eyes at their fellow workedsThe owner is a sleazebag too. I have seen the kitchen when they first opened and it is disgusting. (They forgot to close the door).

From the guys that brought you the wildly popular beer-lovers Mecca called Monk's--comes another Belgian winner taking up where mediocrity once reigned. – In Short
Fairmount's long-time Tavern on Green is turned over to the gastro-goodness of Tom & Fergie of Center City Monk's fame and neighbors, Philly foodies and beer enthusiasts dig in. Burgers both vegan and beef, as well as chicken sandwiches come decked in varieties from Monk's caramelized leeks and blue cheese to the Delvaux--beer-brined cheese and daikon sprouts. Main plates make due with fine finds such as VienneseBeef Stew, Trout Saison and Brugge Fish Stew--but the shining stars here are found in Belgian Café's heady mussels served in two sizes. Make sure to cap your pot of mussels with a side of crispy fries.
