Great Lingerie and excellent service – This is the kind of shop where I can really get in trouble because there are tons of delicate/beautiful/sexy numbers that I fall in love with every time I wander in. Last time I lusted over a 1950s inspired gown that made me feel like Betty Page. (I will be back to get you, gown!) Also being in there is kinda fun in itself, there's lots of girl talk and boy advice and fashion discussion between the owner and me and the other customers, its relaxed and fun and there's never pressure to buy. Oh, and she does special orders which is great for me because I'm a bit of a special size.
I am still shocked by how I was treated... – I have never felt so compelled to write a bad review as I do after my experience at Brooklyn Fox today. I am an avid supporter of many of the boutiques along Bedford Ave. (Mini-mini Market and PinkyOtto are faves) and the surrounding area but will never return to this shop again. I went in excited and ready to buy some new lingerie for my boyfriend's visit next weekend and walked out feeling the most insulted that I ever have in my life. I went in on a Saturday afternoon but it was dead. The owner was sitting at the register and there was a salerack blocking her view of the front of the store. I had a large bag with me from other shopping I had done that afternoon but she never requested that I leave it with her while I was looking around. Anyone who has been in this store before knows that it is kind of cramped, so when I was walking around my bag bumped into some of the merchandise. The owner suddenly jumped up and accused me of putting something in my shopping bag. Dumbfounded, all I could say was, "Excuse me?" She claimed that she clearly saw me steal something and put it in my bag. In an effort to clear my name I immediately showed her the belongings in my bag and purse. Rather than offer any sort of sincere apology, she just gave me a half-assed "oh, sorry" and then SHE became defensive. Completely shocked, I walked out of the store confused as to what had just happened. I then decided to go back to discuss the matter with her with the hope of some sort of redemption that would make me ever want to return to her shop again. After all, I have worked retail before and know that sometimes you just have a bad day and you accidentally take it out on a customer. I totally would have accepted an, "I'm really sorry but there has just been a lot of theft lately," or an "I'm so sorry but I'm just having a really bad day and I do apologize." Did I get anything remotely similar to that? Absolutely not. I was just confronted by more rudeness. I am still completely confused about what transpired this afternoon and why she thought it was good business practice to treat a potential customer in such a manner. It's a good thing that this is New York and there are a million other amazing places to buy beautiful lingerie because I will never, EVER go back to this store again.
Brooklyn Fox Lingerie has lingerie as sexy and unconventional as its Brooklyn neighborhood. – In Short
This is lingerie, Brooklyn style: laid-back and a little funky. In a small shop located in Williamsburg's quirky Mini Mall, owner Alexis has hand-picked a selection of hard-to-find and high-end lingerie. Among the more unique choices: Fluorescent bra and panty sets from Deborah Marquit, Ed Hardy intimates with the label's signature tattoo imagery, and the extremely risque designs of British label Naughty Janet. More conventional European lingerie from Andres Sarda, Marlies Dekkers and more also hang in the narrow, white-walled space.
Hits: The store carries a fun and varied collection of lingerie without any pretension or high-pressure service.
Misses: There isn't much room to move about in this small boutique, so just hope there aren't too many other shoppers at the store when you visit.
Best. – Great friendly service and really nice new store! The selection is mostly high end, and really beautiful. This store idea is a long time coming to Williamsburg. Finally!
Reply to biotech78 – We're glad you like our merchandise. We're sorry about the situation with the staff. We'll work extra hard to make sure this problem will not happen again. We would like to find out what happened. Please e-mail us at: brooklynfox@hotmail dot com- Owner, Brooklyn Fox
my girlfriend got excited – i didn't know what to get my new girl for her birthday. was in billyburg and walked by this place and decided to give it a shot. i felt at ease so i stuck around and dropped a decent amount of cash. i scored. my girl got all excited when she saw what i bought. everything looked really hot on her. don't know how i managed (ok the woman in the store helped) but nothing was too tight or too loose. my girl was happy. very very happy. and so i write this review.
A pain in the neck in what should be an intimate experience. – Snooty staff can hardly stand to be there. They're just too cool for school. Not genuine. On the up side, they do have pretty things for other too cool for schoolers.
sensational lingerie for sensational women – What a gem! And still waiting to be discovered! I really cannot say enough good things about this store. Eye candy all over. The selection is truly luscious, exxtra tasteful, absolutely wearable (not a common combo with lingerie), and the store is also very pretty and super well-located in Williamsburg. I live in mid-town Manhattan, and would rather go shopping at this store than anywhere else in Manhattan cuz it's so much easier finding the right lingerie here. Fox carries nothing plain, nothing boring, and you don't have to go through 120 bras to find one that works. Other boutiques seem so cluttered in comparison, making shopping a headache. Went twice in one week, once alone and once with 2 friends that wanted what I got. PLUS, the shop is actually pleasant to be in. It has a great vibe, and the sales woman is helpful and attentive, so if you DO ask for help with something, she can match you with the right stuff, which isn't very common. Lastly - the labels she carries are simply the best. Whether it's pricey but glamorous Andres Sarda or sweet and soft (and affordable) Eberjey, there is something in here for everyone. You really can't go wrong in this place, and again, it's worth crossing over to Williamsburg for (from Manhattan). Just don't go before noon like I did the second time! Shop opens at noon...
great merchandise – I'm one of those people who will spend her entire paycheck on lingerie so when I wandered into Brooklyn Fox I felt like I was in heaven. There was amazing selection and almost all of it are unique and beautiful pieces. They had my size in so many different styles - I didnt know what to get and what to save for later...Ill be back....
