THIS PLACE SUCKS!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! – DO NOT GO HERE!!! THIS PLACE SUCKS!!! I would give this place ZERO STARS if this website would let me...but instead, I've sadly gotta give it at least one, which it is not worthy of!!! Let me just say I went her b/c of a friends bday. The bartenders are RIDICULOUS!!! AND SO, SO, RUDE. I've never received such horrible treatment in the city of Chicago!!! On one side, the girl who made my drink was VERY rude and just plain mean to me, and made horrible drinks w/o much alcohol, or that tasted like crap! and on the other side of the club (there's 2 diff sides with diff music), the guy bartender actually had the balls to REFUSE TO GIVE ME A GLASS OF WATER for a sick girlfriend...even after I told him she was throwing up in the bathroom. He still insisted that he could not give me a glass of water...but instead that I would have to pay for a bottle. WHAT??? WTF??? Is this even legal??? I've NEVER experienced this before. I was not trying to buy water b/c I wasn't drinking alcohol...both my friend and I had already ran up a hefty bill for alcoholic drinks...and I told him my friend...a girl...was sick and throwing up in the bathroom. Seriously, is it even legal for a bar to refuse WATER, freaking water, from the tap, which is free, to a paying customer!?!!!! A glass of water...which should be free!!!! And to top it off, he was TOTALLY RUDE about it...and when I told him that was nuts, he even suggested that I might be thrown out of the club b/c I asked for it!!! WTF!!! I am not joking. He said to me, should I have you thrown out!!! WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! I've lived in Chicago for 6 years now And have NEVER experienced such rudeness, not only from this a-hole bartender who refused to give me a glass of water for my sick girlfriend, but also from the female bartender on the other side of the club...who was not only RUDE to me but made my drink w/o barely any alcohol. SERIOUSLY!!! I will NEVER go back here after the treatment I received...and I suggest YOU DO NO GO HERE!! And to top it off, the place just plan sucks!!! It was half empty and the people who were there were lame!!! I would give this place ZERO STARS if yelp would let me...but instead, I've sadly gotta give it at least one, which it is not worthy of!!!
THIEVES with ties! – I go to republic after reserving online. I get to the club and the bouncer (who was extremely rude!!!) says to me you aren't on the list...this is after I got a confirmation. I was charged after I had RSVPed and then the brute of a man (BOUNCER) then asks me with the harshest and belligerent tone "are you guys in or out." Who hires these monkeys....who in their right mind would EVER think it is ok to talk to someone like that?!?!!? I go inside and then we order some drinks. The maid/bartender charges 20 dollars to my card for a COKE....where the hell are we that a coke costs 20 dollars? I tell the manager that I'm not paying for that and then he threatens to call the cops on me until I pay. I tell him I'm not paying...so they get the bright idea of holding my card hostage. After I battle it out with them (verbally of course) they return my car and as I walk out the maid/bartender leans in to kiss me (as if to intimidate/ infuriate me). What the hell is wrong with these people. I am an attorney and there are so many violations with what they did that night....they're lucky I didn't get their license revoked...which would have been a blink of an eye for me since I work for the state.
DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE....THEY STEAL YOUR CREDIT CARD....PEOPLE GO TO JAIL FOR YEARS FOR DOING THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good club-Horrible Valet – You hand the valet your car undamaged and they deliver it back to you smashed and they don't say one word to you about it!!
Don't trust their valet – I valeted my car and I recieved a chicago parking ticket of $150 for parking for: BLOCK ACCESS/ALLEY/DRIVEWAY/FIRELANE.
Otherwise, the people are nice. Request a spot in the lot if it isn't full.
WARNING: AVOID REPUBLIC NIGHT CLUB AT ALL COSTS! – Republic was a NIGHTMARE...extremely rude and unprofessional people. I hosted a party for some out of town girl friends, and I decided to give Republic a try. The website allowed you to book a bachelorette party online. I entered my credit card number thinking I was paying for VIP admission, one free drink for each girl, and a champagne toast for the bachelorette. It stated that someone would contact me, it never happened. I called the day of the reservation to confirm that they received the reservation. The lady on the phone informed me that their website was down, but that it was no big deal, she would put my name on the list. When we got there, VIP admission did not exist, and the bouncer was extremely rude and NOT professional or classy at all. Bouncers must be very aggressive and I totally understand, HOWERVER, this guy totally did not understand what it means to represent an attempt at a classy establishment. I mentioned to him that it was unfortunate that not many people were being very nice to us because we were there to have a good time and spend a lot of money. He replied with "I can actually be very mean to you right now by not letting you in here." After we were "greeted" by the bouncer, the guy with the VIP list probably had about a 5th grade education, he could not manage the list in front of him and he didn't understand that we had purchased a party package. I am not even sure that he spoke any English, because I would try to talk to him and he wouldn't speak directly to me. I told him I wanted to speak to a manager and after about 30 minutes, the "hostess" came down to speak to me (Jessica). She was halfway professional , but spoke down to me and didn't make any apologies upfront. We did finally get our champagne toast and she sat us at a table. Once we were in, we realized the place was EMPTY! But by then I was fuming and it I was just done so we left. This is absolutely the WORST night club I have ever been to.
BEST CLUB IN CHICAGO – I have been going to REPUBLIC from the start and what i like the most is that right from start you feel like you count while you are inside bartenders and the rest of staff are friendly and treat you well, dance area is big and fun with a few dance boxes were we jump and had a ball, great sound an lights not to much but thats what i like about REPUBLIC that is not too much like other clubs, that fell cold and like you are just a number a the door republic has a personality of its own and i will continue going with my friends i have meet some good looking people there too.
Editorial Review – Republic Nightclub in Chicago features an ambiance of styles and scenes in a lavish ultra-modern facility.
is black money not green?? – a friend of mine, who is white, promoted a black wednesday party at republic last night. at the door the bouncer was picking black men out of the line for various reasons and telling them they couldn't enter the club, myself included. while i agree a dress code should be a standard for entry into any worthwhile establishment , the bouncer told me that i couldn't get in wearing baggy jeans. fortunately (depending on how you look at it) i don't own a pair of baggy jeans. i was dressed casually but still to a "T." i proceeded to turn around and look at how the the guy behind me, who happened to be white, was dressed. his attire was VERY sloppy: dirty sweater with holes in his jeans and SUPER baggy jeans that were frayed in the back from walking on them for what appeared to be years. i asked the bouncer if he was going to let him in. he immediately piped up with, "absolutely." i will not leave out the fact that the bouncer was black and as mad as i was and screaming at him at how bigoted this situation was, i can't be mad at him. he tells me, "what do you want me to do, big dog? its my job and if they tell me they don't want brothers in here so i can't let them in."
my friend also used to promote at stone lotus and was stopped from throwing parties there because they said his crowd was "too dark" and "that wasn't the kind of vibe they wanted to promote." (the owners/management company for stone lotus and republic are one in the same.) i've seen racism rear its ugly head in my lifetime. this was probably one of the worst examples of it i've seen in a long time but i won't give this establishment another thought. i would be remissed if i didn't bring this situation to light. is my money not the same as the white guy behind me? i assure you my pockets were MUCh deeper. i guess black wednesday wasn't so black at a place called republic this year..............
finally a place where a dancers can express themselves – i have been going to clubs since the early 90's finally a place that doesnt cater to people having to know the bouncer or some other persons name to get in.If you like to dance this is the place to go youll have plenty of dance floor to go nuts the variation of hip hop, house, dance classics, techno etc.. thursday through saturdays are great !! the other great thing is that they are great with the dress code as long as youre looking trendy via jacket & tie to nice jeans & a dress shirt you can be yourself here. this city is notorious for hyped up night clubs that promise diversity but dont deliver b/c there judging you at the door with their so called "dress code" thats bs!!! half the time when im there we look better than the crowd they are letting in while me & my friends are getting refused give me a break !!! if you want to go to clubs where everyone is dressed the same, uptight ,and cant dance go anywhere else i'll stick with republic !!! peace
There are too many other clubs to waste your time (and money) here – Came here on my birthday with a large group - was immediately accosted at the entrance by a member of the promotional staff, wanting to give us a discount on table service. We agreed and she told us she'd get a server for us. 20 minutes later we're still standing around waiting. Finally we get seated. But it takes another 10 minutes for a server to actually show up. At which point she and another server have a heated debate about the group being too large and how we are taking up too much room. I end up getting my money back and leaving after we had been there for 45 minutes without a drop to drink. The atmosphere seemed pretty typical of a night club in the city. Music was not great, but I've heard worse. But the lack of communication and logistical problems between the staff members was too much for us to handle. Seems like this place has a lot of wrinkles to iron out before we would ever consider coming back. It's not just the 12 of us that were turned off, but friends of ours will now be avoiding it as well. And you know that old story, "and they told 12 of their friends, and so on, and so on...."
