Terrible experience, not recommended – Marina Vance for hair and makeup was possibly the worst, and certainly the most unprofessional, vendor experience I had during wedding planning. I did not end up hiring them, but did go in for 2 trials.... I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
I found them on theknot (which i thought recommended them, but apparently she just pays to advertise there), Marina Vance's website is impressive and seems like a real deal wedding place but turns out she is just one rude woman working out of an out-of-date salon that seemed to specialize on makeup for old society women on who live at the trump building --- her prices reflected that but the service did not.
When I called Marina she was pushy, abrasive, rude, and very expensive. Given the high-end cost I thought she had to have some talent so I gave it a try, she was willing to work w/ me in price but she she’d have to hand me over to her associate Lilliana. In reality i'd been handed over to a mediocre hairdresser in a below average salon for the price of high end service. She did a trial and spent the whole time telling me I was difficult, talking trash about her other customer (an old disgruntled lady with flammable hair), she couldn't do to my hair what my hired hairdresser was able to do in minutes.
In the 1.5 hrs in which she pulled at my hair and gave me life advise w/ nasty undertones, the woman couldn’t get anything right. I spoke to Marina about rescheduling and she was INCREDIBLY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL - ended up yelling at me and said she refused to work with me and that I couldn’t have my money back for the aweful experience. Lilliana did end up seeing me once more but the experience was so bad, and the hair-dos weren’t great that I went searching again, and thankfully found someone all around great.
Marina Vance may (or may not) be more talented than Lilliana but her attitude isn't anything you want to have close to you on your wedding day...
I went with John Frieda Salon in the meatpacking district - a gorgeous salon with talented professionals. I worked a super talented (more junior stylist there) who offered prices more reasonable than what I was quoted by Marina-- his talent, attitude, and space from which he worked were incomparable... very talented guy.
Hope this feedback saves a few other busy brides the headache of contending with a bad vendor.
