Honest review of Ounce – I read so many mixed reviews about Ounce, that I held off going for quite some time. I have been craving Beef Wellington, and Ounce is the only place that serves it in Dallas, according to my internet search.

Most of the negative reviews have been about the service, and the hiccups that most new restaurants go through. I can overlook bad service if my Beef Wellington is great. The service and the Wellington is great at Ounce.

The Wellington was served as requested, medium rare. A previous reviewer had a problem with it being over cooked, but mine was perfect. Inside the pastry dough is a thin layer of mushroom duxelles and foie gras. On the plate is a drizzle of sauce that accompanied the Wellington very well. Wine reduction maybe?

My Wellington scratch has been itched. Next time I will try the Steak Dianne which is another of my favorites. Chateaubriand is also on the menu. I love the classics.

On to the rest of the meal. Looking over the wine list, I noticed "Sips" in the $5 -7 range. Half the price of the wines by the glass. And sure enough they were all half glasses, much more than a sip. I told waiter I would like to play with the sips, and asked if he would be willing to be in charge of the pairings. No problem. Let?s do a fish appetizer so we can have a white. I'm having beef, and I let him know I like Bordeaux and Cabs. My girlfriend is having blackened salmon, so a white that will stand up to the spice will be needed.

Every paring was a home run. He served me a cabernet malbec blend that went perfect with my steak. We had the scallop appetizer with a white and my girlfriend had another white with her blackened salmon.

The seasoning on the salmon was too much, until I tried it with the cabbage that sat atop it when served. Then it all came together. The strong spice needed the crunchy purple cabbage to balance out the flavor. Much better.

The only negative was a bit of sand in the fennel served with the scallops.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY MY FRIEND!!! – I'll never go back to Ounce again. It was such a terrible experience. I went with some of my friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. As I was walking in SURPRISE! I saw the Pizza guy in front of Ounce!!! They forget about me and friends at the bar. When I asked to be seated they didn't have my table ready. They pour the wine no once but twice! in the lady besides our table. Food You can find in any other steak house. Staff looked so fake. They looked if they didn't enjoy working there. Servers were the only ones that gave US a good service. There's so many choices of good steakhouses at Addison why go to Ounce!!!

Total Change for the Better!!! – I went to Ounce a few months back and was not impressed at all. But my wife and I had heard that the place had changed chefs, so we decided to give it one more try. Things were completely different. First, the food was much better prepared. My steak was cooked perfectly, and all the food came out at the right time unlike the previous experience. The crab cake app was cooked to perfection and the sauce was different than before. Our waiter informed us that the new chef was for the most part responsible for the changes. We eat out a lot and we will most certainly be back.

Rocky start, Food Very Good – Having reservations at 8 PM one Friday, we arrived a bit early to enjoy cocktails. When we were seated at 8, there was some confusion and we were seated, but did not receive service for over 10 minutes. What a disappointment for such nice surroundings and our fist visit - the wait staff offered a complimentary desert. (Fearing's offered a bottle of complimentary Taittinger's champaign when there was an issue with the table location).

Once we were recognized, the service was very good and the food was excellent. The clam chowder was the best I have tasted on the east or west coast with fresh clam meat, followed by an entree of steak Diane, which had a wonderful blend of of flavor and it came out medium, as ordered. Try the macaroni and cheese and the risotto which can be customized with a garlic preparation.

We hope to try this restaurant again with friends and look forward to a positive experience I know the staff can deliver.

Well... great atmosphere, but let down on the food. – We had a party of seven with reservations on Saturday night to celebrate a couple Birthdays. Upon walking in to the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a group of beautiful and very nice hostesses. While waiting for the entire party to show, I ordered two very expensive drinks at the bar. We were then seated in the room to the left past the smoker's room. The decor was excellent. Our waiter then came to the table and began with an excellent presentation of specials. Our expectations were really high at this point. Our entire table agreed we would like to start with the seafood assortment tray that was $25 per person! One tray was brought to the table and that didn't even consist of five of the same items for each person. When salads arrived, the two persons that ordered the lettuce wedge salad were poorly disappointed. They agreed that it had no taste. My salad, the spinach and gorgonzola was great. All of our entrees arrived perfectly cooked, just not really impressive. You can find a better steak at Capital Grille in the Crescent. Desserts, don't even ask. Don't waste your money! For a Saturday night and yes the weather was bad, but by 10PM we were the only table in the place. Overall, gorgeous decor and great service. Food, not worth it. Sorry!

Best Prime Rib Special in Dallas – Walking into Ounce is an experience in itself. You are greeted by smiling faces, welcoming you. The surroundings are very upscale/modern. The large bar is gorgeous! We chose to sit at the bar for our meal, since a game was on and my company wanted to watch. We were immediately greeted by a bartender who offered us drinks. I chose a lemon drop martini (which was EXCELLENT!). We went over the menu, noticing a "Prime Rib Special" served on Sunday and Monday nights. For $32 you are offered a choice of soup or salad (I chose the clam chowder), a 14oz steak, potato, palenta and desert. The soup arrived almost immediately. It was thick with large chunks of perfectly cooked potato and an abundance of littleneck clams. Seasoned perfectly, it also arrived with bread that tasted like something my mother would have made. As we finished our soup, our steaks arrived. I cannot say enough about the prime rib here. It was so juicy it melted in my mouth. The mashed potatoes had a bit of a sweet taste to them that perfectly complimented the meat. The bartender offered us several sauces to compliment our steaks...we finally settled on a blue cheese based and a peppercorn based one. The sauces were rich and tasty. I HIGHLY recommend the blue cheese sauce, it blended perfectly with the inch thick piece of steak! The portion is so large i could not finish it all!! (I had to save room for desert.). For desert they had several offerings. Key Lime cheesecake, a Tuaca creme brulee, ice cream sandwhiches and a chocolate lava cake to name a few. We chose the creme brulee, which came with strawberries, a chocolate fondue and lady fingers. The creme brulee was rich and creamy, with the addition of the lady fingers and chocolate it was a perfect ending to an excellent meal. Service was wonderful as well. The bartender, Chris, is very well versed on wines and can serve as a sommelier. We had an excellent time and will definitely go back again!!!

Just Another Steakhouse – I went to Ounce to celebrate a special occasion this past Sunday with anticipation of a high recommendation from family. It sits in a great location in Addison, wich already has a number of steakhouses but non of a modern concept. First, walking into Ounce just made the expecations even larger. The restaurant is beautiful, contemporary and clean. The music is clubish but not near as loud as the other steakhouse in Victory Park. The restaurant was empty! Five servers were counted, standing next to the bar, one bartender and one hostess who told us that she did not expect us. The table we reserved wasn't ready in the empty restaurant. Then, we were greeted by our server. Through out the night he came off as unprofessional and unconfident in his knowledge of the menu and his service. The first bottle of wine that was ordered was not available. For a two month old restaurant this was hard to believe. With taking in the surroundings and recieving the service, it appeared that this restaurant is praying on making its money on the trendy Addison bar scene instead of the food. With Dallas seeming to have more steakhouses per capita than Vegas has strip clubs, service is the only destinguishing factor from one steakhouse to the other. Unfortunately our special evening will not be remembered as a great celebration. To give Ounce some positives, comfortable surroundings and great surroundings. Rather, it will be remembered as a night where we should have gone to a restaurant that is know for their service, not one that is working on it. With so many steakhouses in Dallas...choose another.

Fabulous food and Service in the city! – We went to try Ounce Steakhouse last week and cannot wait to go back tonight! Their service is 1st rate and the atmosphere in the dining room was so comfortable and upscale. The bar was large and well staffed. They knew how to pour a good drink! Their "prime only" steak was unbeatable and the 4 sides we tried were delicious. I especially liked the gnocci, macaroni and cheese, and lobster bisque soup. The food all around was fantastic and the experience was wonderful. The management came to our table to say hello and we were treated like honored guests. I recommend it to anyone looking for a new hot spot !

Akaushi beef and prime beef, ordered by the ounce, are the specialty of this modern Addison steakhouse. – The Scene
An exterior mosaic waterfall reveals a hint of mosaic tile columns, ostentatious flowers and bold art of the grand interior. The crescent shaped bar just past the hostess stand is a pivot point for four dining areas; a red fireplace room with modern canvas art, a private sound proof dining room graced with a magnificent marble table, a cigar room with dining, TVs and a view of the wine cellar and a main dining area with diffused lighting and modern accents.

The Food
Intense marbling throughout beef three grades above prime and the highest amount of mono-saturated fat in U.S. beef, results in the buttery and tender experience of Akaushi beef. In addition to offering the only Akaushi beef in Dallas, prime chateaubriand and prime filets have perfect texture and taste. Black truffle gnocchi is a hearty, rich potato side and the key lime cheesecake is touted as a favorite ending.

Hits: Beef entrees, served with finesse and immense flavor, present strong competition for the Dallas steak scene.

Misses:
Preferred steak preparation and dessert consistency were overlooked as well as some servers lacked select fine dining practices.
