My friends who pay hundreds are jealous! – I like to look good too! But spending hundreds...no thanks! In this case, you don't "get what you pay for", you get way more than you pay for. Lissy listened to my wants, took a good look at my hair, asked questions, sent me to get shampooed, which was unbelievable. Who gets a scalp message for this price! Then she went to work! She showed me how to get the volume I wanted and sent me off to do my own styling, which is really great. (she offered to blowdry it out for me, but I wanted to style it myself) My hair looks better than ever. Go ahead and spend hundreds....it will be easier to get my next appointment! LOL
Mediocre experience at Ten Pachi – I also read very flattering reviews about the newly opened store and decided to give it a try. I've had long hair for awhile so I wanted some style and change to my hair. Dot, the owner was my hairstylist for the day. I booked the appointment three weeks prior, hoping that I would get some styling advice from Dot, the expert herself. I told her that I wanted this stylish long and straight hair look. However, she just created a greater contrast of length in my hair and that was it. Their motto is to create a look/style in twenty minutes, but I think it hindered the quality of my haircut. I wasn't incredibly impressed, and later she advised me to the self style section to fix my hair on my own. I have no regrets, but I guess I expected more.
Great Cuts and Great Prices – Lissy and Stella are my favorites. Both have given me really great cuts and seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Stella did my texture perm which if you're wanting wavy hair, I would highly recommend this service with her. Lissy has given me one of the best cuts I've ever had. I told her what I was trying to achieve with my hair and she totally got it. One time I saw Uki for a last minute cut and I wasn't impressed. I explained to her what I wanted but she missed the mark and took it too short. However, I'd like to point out that even though she didn't do what I wanted, I still got a pretty good cut from her. DO NOT go here on a Saturday. Every time I have a Saturday appt. I always wait and extra half hour. I'm not sure if this is because the stylists are going over the appt. times or if clients are showing up late.
Don't expect Japanese Haircut – I heard about "tenpachi" from several different people and sites, so I decided to give a shot since I hadn't got my hair cut for a while. On their website, it said Owner Dot used to work at a hair salon in Japan, so I was expecting to get my hair cut with more like a Japanese style. But I was scheduled with a Japanese hairstylist there, not with Dot. Honestly, she is a Japanese hairstylist with American styles, and my haircut was nothing but unexpected. She just chopped bottom half inch, and that was it. My hair looks worse than ever.
Also, I wasn't really impressed by their service without hair blowout. They said I could add the service, but with my hair length it would cost $15-20. Wow, how could hairstylists even know whether hair's completely "done" without drying hair. I was considering getting my hair blow-dried, but since I was pretty disapointed by her work, I didn't want to drop another $20.
Interior looked great, except it wasn't kept clean: hair was all over, on the floor, chair, table, etc.
Overall, I was very disappointed by Tenpachi and I don't think I'd go back to this place again. Dot and other stylists may be good since they've got good reviews, but if you are expecting "Japanese hair styles", I wouldn't recommand this place at all.
Messy Service, Decent Haircut, Rushed Atmosphere – As a UW student, I'm on a tight budget all the time, but Fantastic Sams won't cut it for me (no pun intended), so Ten Pachi seemed to fit the bill. Located at the creepy end of the the Ave, the decor is very minimalistic and modern, which is not bad, but the waiting area seating is horrid. Only a large hard wooden bench with no back to sit on, and some random stationary on the wall being sold.
Went in for an inverted bob, Dot seemed like she had a lot of experience, but when time came for the wash, the trainee kid got the water ALL over my back and down the front and back of my neck. I stood up, and my hair was washed, but so was my shirt. Ugh. Sat in the chair, and Dot went right to work. The cut turned out fine, nothing spectacular (it was a little shorter than what I asked for and my hair felt greasy from too much stuff in my hair), but she is friendly and conversational. I think she knows asian hair really well too (but I'm not asian).
The big problem came towards the end of my slot for hair cutting time, when I realized that Dot is seriously overbooked. The cut took longer than she expected, I guess, because she was 20 minutes late to the next customer, who was waiting patiently. She intended to finish me quickly and rush me off, but she didn't want my hair to look unfinished, so she actually went back and cut it after I had taken off the plastic sheet thing. SO, I left with a bunch of hair all over my wet shirt. Gross. They haircut was decent and good, no complaints, but I don't appreciate the atmosphere at all.
Two different experiences. – I've been here twice now. The first time was great (and I raved about it), the second...not so much. Ten Pachi did give me an opportunity to share my thoughts about the second experience and did a good job of following up with me. Scheduling seems to be an issue. I suppose this salon will work for some people and won't for others.

high style, low price – When I think "cheap haircut", I have nightmares about bangs cut too short and uneven, and a cut that throws back to the 80's...and not in a good way.
But at TenPachi, the designers are hip, modern and forward-thinking...they are talented and current and highly educated. They are serious about making you look your best and they really believe that a person shouldn't have to save up for eight weeks to pay for a haircut.
I love Tenpachi...check it out and you'll walk away satisfied--and you'll tell all your friends. The folks at Tenpachi are a great team who work together to provide the best service they can. The quality is unmatched, and your experience will be fun at the same time.
Great Hair Cut! Great Price! – In the past I have never really been excited about my hair. Since I've lived in Seattle (for 6 years now) I've gone through about 8 different hair stylists. That was until Dot at Ten Pachi cut and colored it! Dot truly is a master at her trade and she brings her skills to you in an ultra comfortable, modern, and inexpensive salon. She has totally re-inspired me with my hair, and given me a cute, funky, easy to mange hair cut!
On our first visit my partner got his hair cut, I got mine cut AND we picked up some products for the same price that I used to pay for just my haircut!!!
I highly recommend Dot and the rest of the team at Ten Pachi to all of my friends!
hot modern hair – hi, my name is dot hachey, and i am the owner of TEN PACHI Modern Salon and Store in the north university/ravenna neighborhood of seattle. i am a master stylist, colorist and texture and straight perm specialist. i have trained all over the world and am so excited about opening this salon. i have to say, it is a very cool space -- very modern, but our personalities are warm.
i personally train all of my stylists in advanced cutting, perming, and coloring. all haircuts are $20 and include shampoo service. everything else is a la carte. blowdrys are an additional $5 - $20 depending on the length, thickness and desired result. (flat ironing/or curls). i have imported large perm rods and perm solution from japan for texture perms. these perms are incredible. they arent curly -- they add soft, tousled-looking waves. (the olsen twins have texture perms) we are also colorists and specialize in highlighting, multidimentional color and corrective coloring. i'd like to invite you to check out our website: tenpachi dot com. we offer online booking 24/7
let us know how we can help.
