Terrible time on special occassion – On a special occassion, I expected the pre-new management experience that I use to love. I think the regime changed around December of 2010.
I was expecting what I used to enjoy, (great looking woman/men, up scale set up and good drinks/food). When I got there, at 11pm I immediately knew something was wrong because the place had a small crowd for a Saturday night, usually it would be PACKED!
There is no longer a groove that made the ladies want to dance, (no more dancing), no band - now its a cool out spot with a EZ DJ, the drinks went from a 6 oz glass to a 4oz glass and went up, the food was slow to get out and greasy, (I ordered calamari).
The upstairs deck is very nice, but everyone is just sitting around chit chatting - no energy, everyone was just iced up. - I won't go back.
Terrible with Reservations! – My friend had made reservations for her husband's birthday which I couldn't wait to attend because I have been there before. She told me that Cafe Circa called her earlier that same day to inform her that they had to push her 8pm reservation up to 7:30pm to accommodate another reservation that started at 9:30pm. Not once during her previous conversations (she made her reservation 3 wks in advance) with the Cafe Circa manager was she told that there was a time limit on reservations or that at any time they can be changed. The manager knew that her party was a surprise birthday party and still decided to inconvenience and almost ruin the whole surprise with the last minute time change. Luckily, the birthday surprise occurred successfully and the 9:30pm reservation "conveniently" did not show up as we were told. So we were able to eat and enjoy good food and laughs without being rushed.
At the end of our dinner we had spent well over $800 for the meal and drinks. When we told the waitress to bring out the beautiful custom birthday cake that my friend had specially designed for her husband, we were told that we would be charged $2 per person to cut it. We explained that we had our own plates and knife and would serve the cake ourselves, but the waitress further told us that because the restaurant has a dessert menu we would still incur the $2 per person fee. Wow! So not only did we spend $800 plus on a meal, but we were most likely going to spend $50 or more on drinks while enjoying our cake and Cafe Circa was still not satisfied. So as you can guess we decided not to give Cafe Circa the extra $22 (we had 11 guests) for cutting our own cake.
We left the establishment and walked right next door to Edgewood Corner Tavern where they kindly let our party in with no cake serving charge. On top of all that, the Tavern was hosting a Halloween party that night and still welcomed us in to party in their upstairs dining area. We had a blast while playing a few rounds of pool, drinking, and most of all eating the wonderful cake for free!
Kool Spot – Nice spot to kick back relax, chill, eat some good food, see some beautiful well dressed ladies, listen to some smooth grooves, and to network with young professionals.
Good food and entertainment – Went to Cafe Circa last Thursday for dinner. On Thursday nights they have live R&B/neo-soul artists. The atmosphere was just what I was looking for - nice decor and a diverse/professional crowd. I ordered the conch fritters as an appetizer. I fell in love with this dish on a trip to the Bahamas years ago and order it whenever I see it on a menu. Cafe Circa's conch fritters certainly did not disappoint, they were excellent and had a good amount of meat in them. For my meal I ordered the salmon creole with shrimp. which was also extremely good. In fact, I finished my whole meal which is not typical for me. I noticed that some of the other comments complained about the service, we did not have a problem with service. Our waitress, was attentive the entire night/ All in all, I enjoyed my expereince at Cafe Circa and definitely plan to go back.
Just what the professional panorama in Atlanta needed!!! – After leaving the Atlanta area a few years ago, it was extremely refreshing to return and stumble a upon Café Circa. For those who are tired of the over saturated bar/restaurant crowd, and frustrated with the congested club scene, Café Circa is just what the doctor ordered. With a classic, yet contemporary design, Circa has managed to capture the seductive sophistication, for which Atlanta is so well known, and infused it with the rhythms of a mature urban hang-suite.
This distinctive, yet unassuming restaurant /lounge appeals a diverse network of business professionals, musicians, politicians, entrepreneurs and regular folk like me just looking for the quintessential good time and good eats. Speaking of eats, and coming from a self proclaimed foody, the Latin/Carribean inspired menu flirts with even the most cosmopolitan palate. From appetizers, like the conch fritters, to entrees like the Chipolte beef short ribs and Yellow tail Snapper, the executive chef displays is culinary mastery in each dish.
To complete the experience, Café Circa offers live music and performances on some evenings. A polished and urbane crowd, a signature Patois cocktail all set to the background of sultry jazz till 2am......What more is a girl looking for on a Friday or Saturday night?
I make it a point to visit Café Circa each time I am in town, as I am never disappointed. From the friendly severs and seasoned bar tenders, (who even remembered me) Café Circa is definitely Atlanta best kept secret. If you didn't know, now you do!!!
Encour, Encour – Very impressive decor, clean and inviting. They were short on wait staff, but the brother was working it, professional and attentive.
The food was wonderful. My fish was perfectly prepared and the drink was great. My friend ordered the gumbo and it too was great. The drinks were a little overpriced, but the food was well worth the money and well within the normal price range. Highly recommended for a date.
We enjoyed it so much that we have recommeded to our group for ladies night out . We are planning on returning tonight with a few other lady friends for our ladies night out after another True Colors production. This time we are looking forward to hearing some of the excellent jazz that we have been told about. Looking for an encour performance from Cafe Circa.
"Casual Sophistication" on Edgewood – Its a Tuesday night, spending time with a friend, Im gonna name drop momentarily but Ill get back to my review, we previously spent the evening with Will Downing he was in town for a meet and greet /cd listening party at the W hotel in Dunwoody, so my friend says Whats Next? Let grab a drink somewhere, so I put on my suggestion thinking cap and begin to narrow down our options, he finally decided on Café Circa. Café Circa is a new hot spot, housed in the King District on Edgewood Avenue(next door to Café 458) and a few blocks from one of my other favorite cool spots to lounge and unwind, the Harlem Bar. As we entered the café, we were met by a friendly host, we decided to sit at the bar. Now let me tell you about the bar, its so long, how long is it? it practically covers the entire café, of course Im exaggerating but it huge(go see for yourself). As I gazed around the room, I spotted Anthony David(yes, Anthony David) spinning old school, R & B, Hip Hop .of course, I commented to him about being multi-talented ( a songwriter, singer and DJ)..the brotha got it goin on! The bartender is an associate of mine from the National Black Arts Festival, so I felt right at home. We werent that hungry, after all, we just had appetizers at our previous event, so I ordered the Sweet Potatoes Fries(light, crispy, sweet) and for dessert, apple crumble pie which came with whipped cream(delicious), my friend ordered, shrimp tacos which came with bean & rice, and for dessert, peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream.(Yes, I tried it, its delicious, not heavy, not too sweet, flavorful). On certain days of the week, theres Dinner & Jazz, and a variety of musical performances. So if youre looking for a venue serving the professional, urbane community . for your next book club meeting, art preview, dinner date, business meeting, lounge and unwind, head on over to Café Circa I think youll enjoy your culinary and social experience! Ill be back soon, maybe this weekend!(smile)
Good Food but OK service – The food was good but the only thing that stuck out in my mind "the waiter couldn't understand and brought the wrong food".He was nice but he couldn't get it right...
Swanky ATL spot and lovin' it! – It had been several years since I was "out on the town" in Atlanta. Coming back was a breand new experience and boy was I impressed! Coming from the New York City area, the variety of eateries is unlimited and the bar/lounge choices overflow. I must admit that being as spoiled with so many choices has made me a bit picky when socializing out of state - particularly in the south. Well, I'm here to tell you that the north has come south for good! Circa is a fine blend of Northern "swankiness" and sophistication - where respectable folk know how to wine, dine, be entertained and meet cool new folk without all of the sometimes "riff raff" that is prevalent at typical club scenes. This is a classy spot with classy staff and class act entertainment. The sister, Eve, that performed is one of the baddest songtresses I have heard in a LOONG time! If I were a promoter, she'd have a contract! Girlfriend turned it out! My next trip to Atlanta, I will be sure to check out Circa!
Grand Marnier Sisters in the House!
Great night out – First time there this past Saturday on a date. Free parking, No cover, Awesome ambiance, Awesome crowd. Live music was an added bonus. Check it out, I will definitely be back!
