This was our second experience here, and it will also be our last. Most of the employees we worked with were great, particularly the shuttle drivers and the people who checked our car back in. I would have included the woman who rented us our car this time, except that we discovered that she blatantly lied to us about the cost. Full stop, lied. Deceived, even, by summarizing what I was signing so I didn't "have to take time to read it", and by folding the papers up and putting them into an envelope that she told me to "just hand the check-out person". Of course, we didn't discover this until we were checking the car in and needed to get to the airport for our flight. Our great experience the time before made me sloppily trusting, apparently.
The manager I spoke with had clearly read a pamphlet on diffusing angry customers (I didn't yell or swear, but I did express that I was furious about the deception), and applied it in the most infuriating way possible. He was the opposite of helpful and just kept reiterating that my signature was on the page. You can print my signature on anything (which is what they did, you sign a little screen that does NOT contain the same text that they print your signature with), but it doesn't mean I assented to it. I will also be taking this up with my credit card company to attempt to recoup some of the loss. We are talking about nearly $200 of extra costs beyond what I was repeatedly told the total cost would be.
The two cars we've rented here have been TRASHED (rips, stains, dents, broken parts, cigarette smell, etc) and the most stripped down models of the cars available, but I'm willing to deal with that for a week to get a good price. Being lied to, however, way crosses the line.
rented a compact for 3 days this past weekend here at their LAX location. Was very hesitant but the rate was good so I took a chance. The wait for the shuttle was very reasonable, 5 minutes when we flew in and 5 minutes when we flew out. You do have to be alert for the Advantage bus, they almost drove right by 'till we started flapping our wings as they started passing us up.
Our experience was EXCELLANT though I will say they weren't very busy. All the employees we encountered were above average friendly. They do strong arm you to sign you up for extras but NO is a pretty easy word to say, and say, and say. When we returned the car they made a quick and cursory inspection, signed us off and away we went to catch our return flight.

Upcharges Galore! – I was charged 100.00 more than I should have been for prepaid refueling, even after saying that I did not want it from the laundry list of upcharges they kept throwing at me. It was a shame because the car was great. But you are better off paying more somewhere else--you'll end up paying less! This company is owned by HERTZ. I expect better. I did not mind the long shuttle wait, the out of the way location, and even tolerated the very long wait to get your car (probably because they are too busy trying to upsell you on insurance, gas, etc.). The e-mail response from "customer service" was the equivalent of go pound sand. Thanks!
WARNING...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE – WARNING....GO ELSEWHERE.
MARK MAI, THE MANAGER, CARES NOTHING ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
HE CHARGED US FOR A MINISCULE DING THAT WASN'T VISIBLE TO OUR PERFECT 20/20 VISION WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR. WE DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY WINDSHIELD HITS UPON OUR VERY LIMITED DRIVING IN THIS CAR. THIS DING WAS ALREADY ON THE CAR WHEN WE RENTED IT, BUT WE DIDN'T SEE IT, AS IT WAS THE VERY SMALL SIZE OF A PENCIL TIP.
THE INSPECTOR IS A SCAMMER AS WELL AS THE MANAGER. THE LIES RESONATED WITH HIM, AS HE TRIED TO EXPLAIN COMPANY POLICY...BLAH BLAH BLAH.
WHEN WE RETURNED OUR CAR FOR INSPECTION, THE INSPECTOR WENT RIGHT TO THE WINDSHIELD, AS IF HE KNEW THE DING WAS ALREADY THERE. HE HAD TO KNOW. ALSO, HE WAS AN OLDER MAN, WEARING GLASSES. DON'T TELL ME THAT DING STOOD OUT TO HIM, WHEN IT WASN'T EVEN VISIBLE TO PERFECT VISION WITHOUT MICROSCOPIC INSPECTION! WITHIN THE FIRST MINUTE OF OUR INSPECTION, HE FOUND IT!!
HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THEY CHARGED FOR THE SAME WINDSHIELD DING ON THE VERY SAME CAR? NUMEROUS, I'M SURE.
WILL THEY EVEN FIX IT? I DOUBT IT. THEY'RE MAKING TOO MUCH MONEY OFF IT, AS IT TRIPLED OUR DAILY RATE!
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, AND THEN SOME.
I'LL TAKE MY MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. SORRY WE WENT CHEAP THIS TIME...NEVER AGAIN. ENTERPRISE HAS NEVER SCAMMED US THIS WAY. EVEN IF THAT SMALL DING DID HAPPEN ON OUR WATCH (WHICH IT DID NOT) ENTERPRISE ALWAYS ALLOWS FOR 'NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR' WHICH MARK MAI DID NOT. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
CHECK OUT YOUR WINDSHIELDS....IF YOU DON'T, YOUR DAILY RATE WILL TRIPLE WHEN THEY SCAM YOU AT INSPECTION UPON RETURN OF THE CAR.
