clueless service – I went with my dad who was in town. And because he loves and knows alot about wine, I thought this place would be perfect. I don't mind the location because I live around here, but what really got me was just how clueless everyone was about wine in general. No one really knew what they were talking about. Now that's o.k. if you work at a regular bar I guess, but if you're a winery, everyone should be well informed. My dad was also surprised to find bridge vineyards selling bottles of semi-drinkable wine for $20 each. That's pretty outrageous. They did offer a table wine for $10 a bottle, but it was really bad. The atmosphere was neither warm or inviting and the food sort of grossed me out... especially the cheese & meat plates.

overpriced mediocre wine – At the center of this "urban winery" is the wine produced by bridge vineyards. Fortunately, this wine bar serves other locally produced wines which are far superior. These solid and complex wines serve to distract you from noticing the unrefined and premature product bridge vineyards is selling. The selection of foods to eat is unimaginative and most everything, hastily prepared. The space itself seems a bit too contrived and its location, a nuisance. Unless you live under the bridge, or love to drive around williamsburg, you have at least a 20 minute walk once you get off the train.

Homegrown and cool – Last night my wife and I and our friends paid a visit to the Bridge Winery in Williamsburg Brooklyn. They feature only New York State wines and local meats and cheeses. Only New York State wines? you may ask.. Well it works. It works very well.

Greg, co-owner, explained a bit about the wines we chose and had a few good stories to share with us about the wine business but was never intrusive and would leave us alone to chat in this very comfortable setting. The music seemed to be just the right volume so having conversation was as easy as tasting the wine.

The wines chosen here really showcase what New York State has to offer. My wife especially liked the Wolffer chardonnay and we both thought the Weimer dry riesling was crisp and top notch. The reds such as the Sheldrake cabernet franc and Lenz cabernet sauvignon are very serious wines, excellent in fact. Everyone in our group ordered flights so we all got a good sampling and I think the most expensive wine on the menu is 6 bucks for a glass. (The pours are about 4oz because this is a winery, not a bar and New York State regulates this). The Bridge Vineyard wines were also very respectable wines as I really enjoyed the Merlot, a blend with cab sauv. We were told that they grow their own grapes out on the east end of Long Island and they will be having barrel tastings in the future. The barrels are right there in the room as you enjoy the wine. We were told that because this is actually a winery, not a wine bar, you can purchase bottles of wine that you liked to take home with you!

Bridge Winery is located right at the base of the Williamsburg bridge just one block from the river, a nice spot for a date or to learn about wine. There is nothing pretentious about this place and there is a real sense of homegrown pride here and as we left we thanked owners Greg and Paul for what they are bringing to this part of Brooklyn. We liked it here a lot and will return.

Coolest Wine Bar in NYC! – I went to this place the other night with my wife and had the best, most romantic time there! The selection is absolutely amazing and the food complimented each wine perfectly. My wife and I were extremely impressed and highly recommend this place. The inside is really cool as well!
