I WILL NEVER RETURN TO Market or ever recommend anyone to go there!!!! their staff and especially management is horribly RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!! THIS PLACE IS RUNNING A SCAM!
i visited for a class reunion on 11/29 and paid to have my coat checked in (have several witnesses, know my # and what the ticket looked like). at the end of the night when i went to retrieve it, my ticket stub was taken from me and i was given someone else's coat. after i returned my classmate's coat (who was at coat check at the time to identify the jacket given to me as hers) to coat check i did not receive my ticket back and was told they could not find my coat. i patiently waited over an hour and a half until they began rough handling me and my friends for questioning again why they couldn't find it (we have videos of their behavior) and kicked us out into frigid boston weather. without a jacket, i had to stand in the below freezing cold temperature to figure out new plans home since we missed the last train out because of their staff's incompetence.
i called right at opening on saturday 11/30 and was told they do have the coat, but, rather than admitting their staff's mistake for giving it to someone else, they pretended it was somehow my fault it ended up in the bar area and claimed, because i no longer had the coat check ticket, i didn't check it in. this wasn't the only problem with coat check that night..SEVERAL other students had issues getting the right jacket back and issues with keys&other belongs somehow ending up in other people's jackets. BEWARE!! clearly, something EXTREMELY SKETCHY is going on with their staff!!!!
i would be somewhat understanding of the mix-ups if it weren't for the terrible service and disrespect that followed the incident. i was available to pick up the coat on 11/30, but was told Elizabeth Burkard, the general manager, would call me back about shipping it me. after no call back, i called monday morning (12/2) and spoke the GM who was dismissive and said i would "have to wait until wednesday (12/4) to get a call back," because for some reason management couldn't be bothered to take care of it until then. initially, i was extremely shocked at how unprofessionally this business is run, but after reading their less than mediocre reviews on yelp i can't say i'm surprised to hear this is typical behavior. i did not receive a phone call back from GM Elizabeth Burkard on wednesday 12/4, as promised, because she was "out until friday (12/6)." i left six unreturned messages between 11/30 and 12/10. i was finally able to get a hold of her when i called again on tuesday 12/10 (over a week after the staff's mistake and after having to endure the dropping temperatures and a snow storm without my jacket). apparently the reason for the horrendous customer service was because "they were busy." she was unapologetic for something they are 100% at fault for and was obscenely impolite and refused to take ANY steps to fix the situation.
don't know how they expect to keep their establishment running with this sort of service, but I'M THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED and hope no one else is treated this way! any other business, especially a classy one that they claim to be, would have respectfully resolved the situation in a timely fashion. literally THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUSINESS ETHICS, AND DECENCY i've ever encountered in my life!!! now, unless i want to waste more of my time with legal action, i'm stuck with having to take time off from work and foot the gas and toll bill to drive all the way back into Boston to retrieve my coat due to the Market staffs' mistake. when i let Elizabeth know i would be posting a negative review, she callously responded with attitude, "okay." it's really such a shame this business is under such incapable management. this place most definitely DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS (i guess that's to be expected from a con establishment)!!
Overpriced and Rude! – We spent a great deal of money for a function at Central 37. Of course, we thought the picturesque views would more than compensate for the outrageous prices. Not so much.... Not only was the food (and drink!) severly overpriced, it was cold and unappealing. Additinally, after spending too much, we experienced intolerant managers and absurdly ignorant bouncers. We will never go back..... Wish we hadn't wasn't our time and money in the first place. Hope you don't make the same mistake we did!
$5 Bread Charge – Last evening I dined at 37 Central with friends. After ordering a $80 round at the bar, we sat down for dinner. While waiting for our food to arrive, we asked for bread and were told that would be a $5 charge. Hmmm... we had just ordered two bottles of wine, apps for the table and $25-30 entrees... shouldn't bread be complimentary?!? We got the charge waived, but that was only AFTER asking to speak with management. Clearly the new owners do NOT know how to run a business. No wonder we were the only people dining in the establishment. Service aside, the food was actually quite good.
New management takes turn for the worse – When central 37 was the black rhino it was a great out of the way place. Now the new management has completely ruined it. Guys should be prepared to get direct to the "club" entrance for a 20 dollar cover. I say club in quotes because it's one room with a bad lighting system and no one dances. The only good place is the roof deck but unfortunately it is tiny and they don't serve beer from the tap up there anymore. The staff are complete jerks. My friend had his birthday there and they just invented reasons to not let two of our guys in. This place is horrendous now and should be avoided at all costs.
Central 37 - Best avoided if looking for a good time – This place was a rip off. They had a very expensive cover (20 Bucks) when I could get into much better bars in Boston for less. Not only was it expensive the atmosphere was lame inside. Back when it was the Black Rhino it used to be a cool location but whoever is running it now has ruined it. I will not ever be going back to this bar at any future date. I have never left a place angry enough to write a review, but central 37 was so bad I can not sleep tonight without writing a review hoping someone will read this and save themselves from a bad night out.
Fine Dining in the Financial District – We decided to check out Central 37 for dinner after hearing good things from a friend who works nearby. We started with drinks in the bar downstairs. The bartender suggested a delicious martini for my husband and a nice glass of wine for me. The decor was warm and cozy and the bar wasn't crowded. We went upstairs for dinner. We shared the Gulf Shrimp and Roasted Mushrooms for appetizers. Both were very good. I ordered Scallops with Cumin and my husband had the Beef Tenderloin. The scallops were delicious and the beef was cooked perfectly. We didn't have room for dessert but they had a nice selection.
