Nothing spectacular, 2.5 stars – I wouldn't give this place as bad of a review as the two people before me did, but I don't think Cajun BBQ Shack had any sort of qualities I'd recommend.
As a follow up on one of the prior reviews, I did not find the place to be dirty. It's what I'd expect from a restaurant in a strip mall. Though when I was there, someone from a neighboring store followed the server back into the kitchen and stayed for awhile, which I didn't like.
Unlike the professional reviews you can read online, I don't think there's anything special about the food served here. The meat didn't seem like it was prepared to have any cajun or bbq flavor of its own; the cook cut some pork up and poured barbecue sauce on top of it. I got a small side of BBQ beans with my meal, which was very good, except a small side at this place fills up one of the smaller parts of a three section plate and it costs $2.45! The person I brought with me had macaroni salad as a side, and he said it's the same macaroni salad his mom gets from Food4Less. When we left we noticed there was a Food4Less down the street, so that probably is where it came from.
If you're still planning on going, you should know that not everything listed on their online menu is actually available. They had a large menu hanging up on the wall, but many items were covered up with masking tape (classy, I know) like their burgers and fried chicken. And it might help to know you can purchase discount certificates on restaurant dot com.
If you're having any doubts, and you'd like some really good BBQ or Cajun food, I'd recommend Barbecue Masters at Sahara and Decatur (though you might have to wait a while for your food, read my review on that page) or The New Orleans Connection at Eastern and Silverado Ranch (which I submitted to Citysearch a month ago and they still haven't added it).
Dreadful food, filthy facility – Being from Louisiana, I was excited to find this place listed in the Las Vegas Weekly. I am writing the reviewer because nothing in the article was fact. This place is filthy, employees children running around behind the counter, ribs and brisket were impossible to eat. The ribs at best may have been boiled? The BBQ sauce dumped over the meat was like something that we have never tasted. Within 30 mins. I became horribly ill. Our fault was that when we first saw the condition of the place, we should never have gone any further but we tried it instead. $35.00 later and sick we have found the place NOT to GO for BBQ.
Terrible bbq, avoid this place – The brisket platter is a waist of money.
I ordered it to go and was very disappointed.
The brisket was reheated in a microwave; which made it chewy & overcooked.
They drowned it in a sauce that had much too be desired.
The side items tasted freezer burnt.(okra& collard greens).
The service was friendly but it took 20 min. too get my order.
That is too long for being the only customer.
This used too be a good restaurant.
The last owners did a much better job.
It isn't worth the 2 block trip too eat here.
