Overpriced food, questionable owner, dogs inside – I've stopped by this good-looking, cozy corner bar a handful of times. I stopped eating there after my first visit for reasons detailed below, but the beer is still good and it is nearly impossible to screw up.

The pizza is good, gets points for being very unique, and it is made right in front of you. Unfortunately, you need to take a second mortgage in order to purchase enough to be satisfied--pies are wafer thin, floppy, and limp, measuring only about 10 inches in diameter. At $15 a clip, its just too much considering anyone could legitimately eat, or I should say need to eat, two pies if they are there for a couple of hours.

Toby's is stuck in the Stone Age--no debit or credit accepted. This generally signifies a cheap-ass for an owner, and its an inconvenience, considering the rest of the planet takes debit. The music is the kind of unimaginative, soulless, jukebox garbage that leaves you asking how on earth a place in Brooklyn could be so bland with its sounds. It reminds me of FM radio, which sends me looking around for sharp things to push into my eye sockets.

Toby's is a dog-friendly establishment. Call me crazy, but I believe dogs belong at their owner's home, the park, or on a farm...anywhere but near my food unless I am at a picnic. Animals in a food service establishment is a major turn-off, and Toby's has me mystified, as this must be some kind of health code violation. The first time I went in, about a year ago, I was eating some pies with a buddy while a black lab scampered away from its owner, running around the place. Nobody on staff seemed motivated to wrangle the pooch and tell the owner to tie Fido up outside, at a safe distance from everyone's food. I was waiting for the candid camera and a studio laugh-track, but this was real. And kind of ridiculous.

The beer selection could be bigger, but it is well-rounded and has some tasty numbers. Bar and wait staff are adequate and friendly enough. Had the opportunity to see the owner stop by one afternoon, she seemed bitchy and intimidating with her employees and none too friendly to anyone in particular. Haven't heard many good things about her, and my first impression supported those rumblings.

Awsome place with great staff, good beer, and amazing pizza. – This is a great neighborhood bar. The place is clean and friendly. They have 3 large flat panel tv's and one of, if not 'the' best pizza's in the area (fresh out of a brick oven). What mpre could you ask for!

YUM. and then some. – i love the pizza here, and the toby's cheap beer. the pizza is a little pricy, but so so so worth it. get the del mac... it's got fresh mozzarella, sausage, oh man. i'm so hungry just writing this. it's more expensive than a slice at a pizzeria, but SO WORTH IT.

i live around the corner from this place, and i love it in the summer with the open windows and the outdoor seating. it's cozy in the cooler months, too. i hear it also has tons of sports on the TV, it's a nice addition to that stretch of 6th ave, which i prefer to 5th cause it's a little quieter and calmer.
