After three different experiences with Lakewood Animal Hospital, I can assure you DO NOT to go there !!!

Now that it's a VCA its business model is directed like an HMO, meaning that investors receive the greatest attention and its all about money.

Being a veterinary professional my neighbor asked what I reccomended for her dog that had difficulty getting on the couch. I suggested that she take it to any Vet and they might provide supportive care, as her dog was 15yrs old. Instead LAH gave it four different vaccines, offered no supportive care, and missed a heart condition. The dog died 2 days later.

My cat died in its sleep and I brought his body for cremation services. They charged over $200 for the ashes and forgot to call to let me know they're ready.

1 month ago, as if I didn't learn-

My 9 yr old lab mix had a mass on its arm pit. I brought him in thinking the worse, I had chest rads done, biopsy done, and blood work. My goal was to get a prognosis so my children would not have to lose their pet at Christmas time. 5 days later the mass doubled in size and lab work was still not back, at 7 days later they said it was a round cell tumor that is slow growing and not much to worry about and likely will be just a discomfort to my dog but the final lab report is not back. At nearly 14 days after biopsy my daughter (13yrs old) answered the phone and was told the final result was a benign round cell. By this time the tumor was about 10 times the size it was when I originally brought him in, so I scheduled a recheck with the original doctor. She thought it looked marginally bigger, but when asked she failed to measure the original mass. She again confirmed benign non invasive slow growing tumor, despite what I was seeing.

After 3 more days I could no longer ignore her inexperience. I took my dog to an old hospital of mine and scheduled surgery right away. Unfortunately, 1 day later and Sparkys breathing changed and became too weak to stand, and no longer a candidate for surgery. So a week before Christmas, 3 weeks after the initial appointment, my dog died of a benign, slow growing tumor, that went from the size of a walnut to the size of a melon with no consideration from Lakewood's vet staff.

I never cared about the money multiple tests cost, all I wanted was a prognosis/ diagnosis. And what I got was the opposite of what common sense would have given.

Incompetence in that multiple doctors relied on a biopsy sent to a laboratory of a sister company (Antech) that's results came back sooooo late it should have raised red flags, that she neglected to size the tumor for future reference, they left the results with my 13yr old daughter, and at this point despite 2 visits and nearly a thousand dollars, still has yet to ask how Sparky is doing.

VCAs attract the worst doctors, I geuss I should have known. Who else would sell vaccines to a 15yr old dog, forget about the ashes for a client, and not be able to relate lab work to what's right in front of their face.

I feel bad for your pet if you have taken it to a VCA. It's bad business, it's bad medicine, it's a new culture in veterinary medicine that's increasing costs to pay for investors Chistmas presents. I didn't get mine as he is now gone.

Sincerely

Gary

Where do I start...

Dr Morein Thank You so much for all you did for my kitty Bella!

Her spay last year didn't keep her from going into heat this year. Only a yr and a half old she didn't know what was going on with herself, very anxious, crying all the time and both of us were loosing sleep..

Going back to Bellas Vet, trying to figure out what to do, YOU came HIGHLY recommended! You were on it in a matter of hours, calling me back and wanting to take care of this quickly.

I knew I was in the right place and in the right hands when I was greeted by your superb staff. I knew Bella was in the VERY BEST care. Dr Smith was so caring and reassuring when dropping her off and you calling me within 3 hours with the success!!!!! And then to call me later on in the day after I got Bella home just to make sure she was doing well, I couldn't have me more grateful and happy.

WOW, THANK YOU DR. MOREIN ~ THANK YOU!!!

It doesn't get any better than you and your staff!!!

always your patient,

Bella and Michelle

A Good Vet At Last! – I was fed up with the service from my regular vet, so I decided to come here and give it a try. Oh my!!!! This was the first vet's office Buddy has never barked her head off. He walked through the door calm and quiet. The waiting area is a bit small but very clean and nice. I didn't have to wait long to see the vet. I just filled out the information for a new client/patient and they were ready. Dr. Kennedy came into the examination room with a smile and ready to shake my hand and take care of my boy. You'd think by 6pm, the woman would be tired and would want to go home. Nope! She was extremely professional and helpful and gave me great advice. The staff is very nice and polite. I'm just so happy to have found a good vet at last!!

This place rocks. They have always taken exceptional care of my dog and have shown an amazing passion and caring. Dr. Kennedy came in on her DAY OFF to check on my dog and give me a call with an update. The surgeon who worked on my poor girl had been practicing since 1966 and had worked on lions and similarly sized animals. Good luck finding a better place in some old converted shoe store.

I was very pleased with my overall experience. The place was very clean and modern, so I didn't have any qualms about potentially exposing my puppy to bacteria and germs. Lastly, VCA is open 24 hrs.

The vet had this great attitude. – I went here for a free exam before I get my little Ewok (Shih Tzu/Lab mix) fixed. Surprisingly, the day I went the lobby was quite empty. My dog got called in after 30 minutes and was thoroughly examined. He was a bit testy with his ears though, and the vet had this great attitude.

Caring and attentive staff. Our dog had a large lump that suddenly appeared on his neck. From the receptionists to Dr Hargenrater who treated our dog the entire staff were all friendly, courteous and showed great care when looking after us. I was most impressed when Dr Morein, the medical director, took the time to call me twice over the past two days to check on the condition of Jacques and to give me his lab results. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone who has a need for any emergency veterinary care.

NO BETTER PLACE – The great staff took such good care of my dog when we brought him to the emergency room after a bad fall. He ended up having to have surgery to repair a fracture he had between his elbow and shoulder. Dr. Marchan and all the lovely staff were so helpful and caring. Dr. Marchan called us a few times a day to let us know how our dog was doing. We were also able to visit Rocky anytime we wanted to. Thank you VCA Lakewood Animal Hospital.
