Beautiful, friendly salon! Love them! – I love, love, love Self Salon!!! The customer service is excellent, everyone is so nice. Maria, who's the owner is such a sweetheart and styled my hair to look amazing for my son's wedding day. A week before at another Brooklyn salon, my hair was made to look horrible with a color job that was a nightmare. My poor hair looked fried after the damage was done. He didn't even apologize and I was charged almost 400.00. So grateful to Maria who did an amazing job with my hair, She made my hair look so healthy and beautiful. I received compliments on my hair and makeup all evening. Danielle who is also a love worked her magic and did an incredible job on doing my makeup for the special day. It was beautifully done and people raved how beautiful I looked. My son upon seeing me had a huge smile on his face and said I looked beautiful. Priceless. So grateful to Self Salon for making this mom extremely happy and beautiful. I will be going back to Self Salon for all my hair and makeup. Love them!!

Tranquil, Minimalist Salon in Williamsburg – I used to always get my hair done in Manhattan. I got fed up of taking the train to Manhattan from Williamsburg every weekend, so began to troll the neighborhood for new salons. One day I walked by Self and haven't turned back. The space itself is impeccable - modern, fresh and relaxing. The owner Maria did an absolutely amazing job with my cut and Danielle is a color magician. I'd actually never had color before and was so very happy with my new locks. I think my cut was $75 with Maria and balayage highlights which I got were $175 - totally worth it and still about half of what I used to pay! They also rock the blowouts! Love them.

Citysearch Editorial Review – You may stand out after a trip to this Williamsburg salon, since bed-head, Flock of Seagulls-style looks are more common in this 'hood than high-end cuts. Owner and stylist Maria Barca opened up the shop in 2004 at just 23-years-old, and has since established a loyal clientele thanks to her natural eye, proficiency with scissors and commitment to friendly service. Several staffers hail from top-notch salons like Frédéric Fekkai and Oscar Blandi; there's even a Deva-trained curl specialist. And if the clean, white, open space isn't calming enough, acupuncture and zero balancing services are also available.

Best Hair I've ever had!! – I have been to a few salons around the city. Then I finally found "the one" I came into Self + Therapy a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. I had my haircut with Maria whom is the owner. After reading the two negative most likely fake reviews I felt the need to write a review to set some things straight. Maria is nothing but professional and a perfectionist when she is cutting hair she ALWAYS makes sure you leave happy and in love with your hair. She is super easy to talk to and is very knowledgeable about hair types and products for each different hair type. I also recently had Danielle the colorist add a few hilights to my hair. I had no previous color on my hair and was pretty apprehensive about coloring it, I knew it was time to add a little something to it being winter time i was feeling drab. Danielle suggested painting in a few hilights just to brighten my face. I am so thankful I listened I left the salon with my hair looking like Eva Mendez it was exactly what I had in mind! Thanks Maria and Danielle for making me feel so beautiful and brightening up my winter!!

Do not waste your time here – My friend and I got dogged at this place a little while ago and I think y'all should know about it... pass the word... I'm not vain or nuthin, but I like a nice haircut you know? The ladies appreciate a nice haircut. So I want to check out this chichi salon to get my hipster on (I'll admit it, I know what I am.) and I call the place and some total gangsta biotch puts me on hold for like a century only she doesn't know how to work the phone or something because I hear her telling this story about some party she threw and how she almost threw down some chick (why is it always "almost" with these broads???), and yadda yadda yadda. She finally realizes I'm still there - call me a sweet on that Springer stuff - and she picks me up again all rude and sh*t - "can I help you" laying on the Queens thick. By this point, I'm way too intrigued by this titan B*tch to not schedule an appointment with her... BIG MISTAKE. "Maria" as it turns out schedules the appointment with her - what a treat. The day arrives and I tell you (and I have been around the block - believe you me) I never in my life have seen such a cracked up swamp monster. I didn't make it more than 10 minutes in that place before I ran for my life. There is no way that woman (?) was going to lay a finger on me (so ok, maybe I am a bit vain - who cares). I have no idea why anyone would pay Williamsburg prices for the nastiness they could get for 5 bucks down in Brownsville. Fd up.

yucky :( – I wanted to try this seemingly cool salon in trendy Williamsburg, but when I got to the place, I noticed, a strange funk about it... Sort of like week old sushi. I have a sensitive stomach and tend to pick up on not so friendly smells. Anyway, as I waited for my appointment I noticed that the stylist (Maria) had this nasty look on her face like she was going to convulse all exorcist-style any minute on her client. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt - maybe the chick in the seat really sucked? Anyway, when it was my turn, I almost passed out from miss linda blair incarnate's breath - hot dang, girl!!! What did she eat for lunch??! I barely managed to keep my breakfast down while she hacksawed my once beautiful, healthy locks into some Marilyn Manson version of hotness - Christ! It's going to take me ages to recoup from this - financially, emotionally, and for the love - attractively. Ladies, gents - don't let this bloodhound near your locks. I GREATLY recommend The Beehive salon - better 'tude, MUCH BETTER SMELL, and hella lot better hairstylist. Amen.
